I'm doing what? Spamming? I've only just been doing it for a few months.

Making out like jdcarpe is using SmallFry's name in vain. They were good friends, he can call his custom keyboard whatever the hell he likes.
It's a good width!  If it's half-width it's too narrow, and full-width is too wide.

Your comment comes off as rude. I'm trying to showcase my work on this new design, while paying tribute to my friend. I never even mentioned anything about selling anything.

In fact, I'm not really interested in making money here. That's why I'm not a vendor. Maybe one day I can fulfill my dream of making a living by designing and producing keyboards, but for now it is simply a hobby, and this community is my haven and source of recreation.

SmallFry was my friend, and I don't think he would have objected to my naming this keyboard project in his honor.

This made me smile, because I know the story of how SmallFry got his moniker. Others who are "in the know" would probably know what I mean.

For everyone interested in making this a reality, I am currently in the middle of the GH60 GB, so this will probably have to wait a bit. I would also like to see the Alps TKL happen. But if someone else wants to take the reins and make moves, I would be willing to assist with what I have so far.

would like to do a run of these pcbs and a second run of gh60 pcbs at the same time, but this one is going to need some slight modification for pick and placed diodes and controller. also i'd like to unify the controller design with the gh60 so that the bom is the same (it is basically just a teensy OG).

this should keep costs down. i imagine the_beast's guy will do the steel, and i'm not sure how he scales at the moment. will chat about this with folks tomorrow.

That would be awesome. The solder pads for the diodes are a just bit too small as the PCB exists today, but I didn't want to bug Regack with that. But pick-and-place with presoldered diodes and controller would definitely be the way to go for a GB-sized run.

Also, if The_Beast's guy doesn't work out for plates, WFD's guy can surely take an order if there is any kind of volume. We would just need to work up some kind of case design before plate dimensions are finalized. There are currently no holes in the PCB for standoff mounting (nor for PCB-mount stabs). :)

if we do a large enough run we could actually bring IMS (industrial metal supply) in. IMS is local to both WFD and i (actually about halfway between the two of us) and has and extremely nice 6-axis laser that can be used to bevel, chamfer and otherwise make this case work as cleanly as possible on very hard, very high strength alloys for a ridiculously solid feel to the board, despite its small size.

jdcarpe, do you know how regack feels about open sourcing his pcb design? (ugh, we really do need this geekhack OS-DEVICE license written yesterday...)

While I don't think I could ever find myself using one of these for actual typing, my god, does this concept look cool as hell!
I wouldn't mind getting one of these just to sit on my desk to look pretty  :)).

Perhaps for numbers and function keys, you could could replace the Windows Key as an Fn and
have Fn+(ASDF...Enter) as numbers (1-0) and Fn+(Esc...Del) as F1-F12?
Or maybe even a numpad-esque Fn layer (QWE, ASD, ZXC). Just a thought  :p.

Interesting! Tho I don't see the reason to include the right shift key...
Most people use left shift anyway, and as space is rare on this layout having double-keys seems a bit "uneconomical".
If the right shift key gets ditched we could have a 1.25 FN key on the right and one more 1x1 key next to it (ie. for ",").

Just my 2 Cents :)

Fair enough...
Still I think having one more punctuation key (and a bigger FN key, as you have to make heavy use of it with such a low number of keys) would be better than the "luxury" of a second shift key.

I'll be making room in my budget for this little guy.

Also, to add to the discussion, I make HEAVY use of my right shift key, using it almost primarily, since I can hold it and still make use of my left pinky, so I only lose the ability to use shift + punctuation, which seems a significantly more rare occurrence for me.

That being said, I've be happy seeing it shortened to make space for a hardwired comma.

This keyboard design makes me want a laptop, but one without a keyboard on it. I'm thinking like. a Monitor on a stand, with all of the hardware in the monitor, but built for portability. Battery life, the whole shebang. Essentially a laptop, but closer to the desktop/monitor combos, just intended for portability.

Does this exist? OR can we make it exist? Anybody know enough about hardware, monitors and the like to help me make this happen? I'm happy working on the design portion.
