Hello and welcome to the Group Buy for the Adélie!






Inspiration
As more people should, I take this hobby pretty lightly. The Adélie is named after a type of penguin. I like penguins.
The board layout inspiration comes from a combination of the CA66, my previous board, the 45-ATS, and the TMO50 v1.
The board shape inspiration comes from a combination of the CA66, Elephant S7, and the side "weights" are something that I pulled from the GMK Q100.
There was a lot of interest in the 45-ATS but some people were wishing for the full punctuation. I hear your call - here's my answer.

What is the purpose of making unlimited units available in the EU, but capping at 100 units outside of the EU?  Seems like an odd stipulation since I 'could' have a trusted coworker in the EU buy one and ship it to me (funds xfer + VAT + extra shipping being the downside of course).

Each vendor has a maximum amount of boards they wish to handle. EU is not expecting many numbers so have set no official cap. If they receive and overwhelming amount they may decide to cut off. You may very well do that, but is unlikely for most people to have that resource.

Is there any possibility to get brass instead of stainless steel on the blue colorway? I'm really diggin' the blue! I'm scandinavian, so I assume the unlimited GB is also valid for me as mykeyboard is my primary vendor. And is it really true it lasts a whole week in the EU? If so that is very impressive!

Just ordered a blue through Mykeyboard, with a CF plate and extra PCB. I planned on ordering a U80-A Seq 2 in the ongoing GB, but with extra PCB, shipping and the whopping 25% VAT I would need to pay at importing (plus fees), this was both the economical and emotional choice, so I just went for it. It’s always great to support the “small business”, (although of course RAMA is no international conglomerate) and I just love the Penguin-theme and it just feels great to get to dip my toes into sub 60%. Really looking forward to this, and congrats on a truly awesome design, Abec!
I sure wish smaller projects would take note when it comes to having European vendors, the VAT (although I am happy to pay it, keeps society running, after all) is truly prohibitive for even mid-range projects.

I was able to pick up a Navy version with FR4 + CF plates.

I'm new to the whole keyboard scene, so I am wondering, why would one order an extra plate if one is already included?

A) They are only offering brass plates as standard. Other materials offer a different typing experience

B) Plates usually get permanently attached to the PCB via all the soldered in switches. Many people buy an extra pcb/plate combo so you can easily swap to linears OR have a better re-sell value with a fresh unsoldered pcb/plate combo (granted you can probably just have a pcb for that, but desoldering switches is like throwing away $100 bucks

C) The FR4 was a cheaper plate if you needed an extra

D) If anything breaks, you will struggle to find a replacement for your expensive paperweight

The MarbleK wrist rest for the GMK Civilization keycap set seems to go perfect with this build keyboard that I bought but the lowest % wrist rest they offer for this is 60%
Wondering if 60% wrist rest would work for this Adelie or if the measurements would still be off by quite a bit.

At the moment the QMK and Via file are in the works. This was expected to be done sooner but we (Cannon Keys and I) have had some hiccups. Cannon keys is working on finishing this up and as soon as it is ready it will be posted here and shared in the respective discords.

Thank you! I love this board and I managed to compile a VIA hex file from their repo and now the keyboard layout appears to be correct after flashing. No luck with making a json for VIA or having layer status LED to light up.
Looking forward to the solution cause I want to type on this so much

Okay, so here:

Flash the board with the attached hex file then drop the JSON file into VIA under the design tab. Should work out! Let me know if you have further issues. I am going to work on getting these into the discords.

Hi, any news on adding Adelie to QMK Configurator? It's a lovely board and I just got Dracula, I'm hoping I can use them together soon!

Cannon Keys is ultimately in charge of the qmk branch of this board, I have asked Upas to push on the QMK submission which is about all that can be done atm. I recommend using VIA in the meantime, unless you have some fancy things planned for QMK that VIA cannot handle.

Sorry to bump this but I couldn't find anything with a google search. Is it possible to change the colours of the LED? Not really a fan of red as default layer colour.

Yes, you would have to adjust the original keymap.c that is in the repo for this board then compile it for QMK/VIA

This is an adelie hex file that is via enabled and changes the colors of the LEDs to something I prefer more and has no LEDs on the default layer like the version that is in the Git Hub repo.
