Title: [IC] GB: Rendering or Prototype?
Post by: Slywanin on Wed, 22 February 2023, 09:31:25
I'm Abdul Lutfi. I'm doing a groupbuy in the near future.

I'd rather built a prototype first than just doing rendering.

In doing so, I can better ensure the quality of the end products I'm fulfilling to my buyers; you guys.

But I need to hear from you of your responses.
Here is a short Interest Check Survey.

Dammit, I failed to specify keycaps.

Keyboards, a prototype is a must.
But I don't see prototypes for keycaps.

And I see many keycaps delivered with sub-par quality.

For keycaps usually is just the render, for quality that's why is very important to specify the manufacturer, almost everyone knows what to expect from every famous manufacturer. Also, creating a IC without the design is at least weird, people won't be able to say if it prefers a box or wathever if you don't specify: I'll be selling this set for this range money.

if you are making a new profile, a prototype will help a lot especially when putting them in side by side comparisons to existing profiles. also if you are doing something more exotic like ceramic you will definitely need a prototype.

if youre just trying to IC a colorway for an established manu then do a render. a "prototype" in this sense is just a color sample. having color samples on hand doesnt really guarantee the quality of the final product anyway. ive already lost count how many times MW samples looked great but the production run was botched.

if you are doing IC for a new unknown manu, then yes get physical samples made. not everyone can get away with a "trust me bro" GB and actually deliver a good product like IV Ashes.

i think this is all very straightforward. you dont need to pre-IC an IC.
