looks awesome, with the new top plates and the ergodock. kinda makes me regret not joining the buy for the new alu plates now.

Thanks! Just finally got my full hand alu plates (sorry for the potato pics, lighting in here is crap):

The best part about the aluminum plates is they stay super super cool, which is awesome cuz my hands sweat easily :(

That ErgoDox looks SICK! Nice work daerid.  I have to get some pictures of mine up... I've build corrugated cases for two of them, but they don't look like you'd expect.
ErgoDoxen 6 total: Cherry MX Browns, Cherry MX Clears, NovelKeys Box Royal, 80g Gateron Yellows, NovelKeys Pale Blues, NovelKeys Box Navy.

ErgoDox really has to offer acrylic in different colors. I'm kinda tired of stock clear ones, color combos like those look too awesome to not be offered.

I have quite small hands for a man and it works great for me.
Here's how it looks like at the moment:

Still working on a case for it as I haven't come up with a result that would satisfy me yet :)
BTW. With a black PCB it looks pretty sexy without a case.

That does look pretty sexy.

I'm just going to do a wood layer for the top and bottom if i get my ergodox anytime soon.

I'm wondering what a simple low profile tray with a cover for the teensy/top would look like, leaving most of the top of the pcb exposed, forget the plate.

Much like the classic case, minus the plate area. reason is the Teensy resides quite a bit higher than the rest of the PCB, and the reason for the two extra layers on top in the layered acrylic case.

yeah im not thinking of a layered case, im thinking a tray, like the 60% trays, and then another shell that goes over the top part to cover the internals.

You know I'm thinking about a simpler (and cheaper) solution to the case - more basic one without the plate integrated but with integrated bottom and space to install steel or aluminium plate as another element. It would reduce the border size significantly (like in my unibody prototype or even smaller) to make the keyboard more compact and portable. To be honest I really enjoy those vintage blacks PCB mounted without a plate. Keyboard feels very old school, especially after I installed Tai Hao double shots on it.
As for a plate I could be cutting it from the 1mm thick aluminium - I already have plenty of it :)

kind of off topic but i personally only like linear switches without a plate, something just feels different about them with no plate, that includes vintage blacks, i don't have an explanation why they feel better but they just do. i like tactile switches with the plate though.

i think that case/tray/plate would be cool, i think it would look nice on my wood ergodock, and if  jalli and geekhackers are successful in making a LED backlit ergodox it would look bad ass with it (i like pretty lights :P)

im just worried about how that teensy and internals would look.

Seeing all the Ergodox boards has me wanting to build my own.  Where are people getting cases?  The link to the .dxf files for the acrylic case return 404 errors.  I found the set Dox has on shapeways but I was hoping for other options preferably full hand.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I'm digging your case.  Is that just the bottom layers up to the plate and you didn't add the top couple of layers?

Now to find out how much getting the acrylic case cut will set me back.

I have to make a new plate for the trackball, I don't want the screws ruining the surface, will epoxy the small feet to the plate, the trackball will have countersunk stainless screws, as will the cover plates for all three units :)

Looks great czarek, can I ask what kind of keycaps they are? I read somewhere that most people use DSA for their ergodoxes but those larger profiled keys that you have look pretty cool, especially the red ones on the side.

that's awesome work, czarek. with some sanding on the sides, it would look perfect.

Would you have any idea if the pvc case is lighter than the 5 layer acrylic?

I will tell you that when my order from MassDrop (from end of August) is delivered finally, but I may need to wait few more months for that one :D
It feels very light though and it definitely is smaller than Lister's layered case design.

Just got this a few days ago, so I'm still getting used to the layout of the keys. Must say I'm liking it so far though. I did notice some differences between mine and older runs of the ergodox:

-all the nuts were cap nuts
-there was a hole pre drilled for the teensy in the case
-both sides of the case use identical layers (not sure if this was just a mistake, but it doesn't bother me)
-header pins were already soldered onto the teensy board

For the third dox i'm planning to make my own case, just waiting for parts to complete my CNC router  :thumb:

i've pretty much decided that in the end, linear switches work best with my ergodox after running my dox with browns, clears, ergo clears, blues, blues with 45gkorean springs, whites, and whites with 62g springs. I am sticking to my Lubed MX Red Ergodox--which is the first ergo dox i have built out of 3. and currently the only one fully assembled right now, the other 2 im messing with and selling 1.

current iteration of my ever changing ergodox

I came up with a ghetto way to get a countersink look as you see

i got these 8mm long standoff cylinders, it is M2 thread on the inside and exactly 3mm on the outside allowing it to fit, with some force, into the ergodox M3 holes. I used countersunk M2x8mm screws

the result is almost countersunk on both ends, i added rubber bumpers

here is the thing i would advise though if you do this, watch out how tight you do it because i ended up cracking one corner of my case :( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(

case has another flaw though, im waiting for replacement layers from MOZ still, the layers arent cut correctly so they aren't flush and i had to file out the holes to get the case together. part of the case is flush, other parts are not

 i dont think i had recut the layers i cracked though  :'( :'( :'(

oh well /update

It is, and this is the same method I use for my designs, I even me the the holes on top and bottom most layers, slightly bigger, this means, the screws sits in better.

Interesting timing, Glod.

I'd also just finishing countersinking both of my ergodoxes, and ironically, I choose raised screws instead of the flatheads (which I did buy but decided not to use). I stuck with m3 though; using m2 screws didn't occur to me at all. Good thinking there.

Pictures:

For the bottom, I used flanged hex nuts. Enlarged the holes enough for the hex part to lodge in snugly, leaving the flanges out.

This went very well for the acrylic case, but not so much for the wood layer; turns out drilling plywood wasn't as simple as I thought. Ended up chipping off a few bits of my case's bottom layer.

Love both of these. Glod, are you sticking with the DSA profile for good? I'm trying to decide whether to get tall SA caps for mine, just to try it out, but I noticed your remarks about it just being too tall with this board...

i think im going to stick with dsa for now, hyperfuse just looks so amazing on this board, but i change up my ergodox setup like every other week so who knows i may go back to dcs or the SA in a few weeks. i thought the SA profile was too tall for the fullhand case and that they didn't go well with stock red springs, i think SA goes better with a heavier switch, but thats just me.

Further mod to my ergodox for the v3 lifters (cross-posted in the ergonomic forum for alternative methods of attaching lifters)

Drilled holes in both the v3 lifters and my ergodox's bottom plate, and installed flanged nuts on on the plate itself. Closed it up and used a 8mm m3 screw to bolt it in. You can see two extra mounting holes at each hand that I made, in case I wanted a lower angle.
