Typing Demo XL: beamspring (IBM 5251)
« on: Thu, 09 August 2018, 04:42:39 »
This is part of a new series I'm thinking of starting. It's like the typing demos at the end of my reviews, but much longer. Hope you guys enjoy, I really like how well this recording turned out :) .

The switches themselves aren't louder, but the solenoid really pushes it way beyond. It's INSANE.

Yeah it is pretty insane.
What was your recording setup for this video?
Is it enjoyable to type on, or does the sound become too much?

I use my usual rig: an sE Electronics X1 on a Rode PSA-1 boom arm with Cube4Nano voice box.

It's a lot of fun to type on, but the solenoid is so loud that I can't understand any speech or video that comes from the speakers of the computer. If I'm watching a video or something, I need to PAUSE it while I'm typing, or switch off the solenoid.

Regardless of the noise, the switch' keyfeel is absolutely unsurpassed in my opinion.

My god that thing looks even more enormous than in your previous video!
What's the typing angle?

Beam spring typing feel is amazing.  I dream of a modern version.

Can you feel the solenoid resonating through the keyboard, or is it purely noise?
