What kind of spacer are you planning Shinz? I had wanted to look into a frosted acrylic/nylon spacer, but interested in other options also

Going for a black and "gold" aesthetic so the underlighting is a pass for me.

Planned on doing anodized aluminum but, after talking to 27, might end up going with brass to match the weight.
If you're doing brass you should look into a GB.  I know I would be interested. Might bring the price down a bit too

I would also be interested.

I too would be interested in a metal spacer.

I'm in the process of getting quotes from local (SF Bay Area) companies right now. I'll report back when I've got some concrete quotes

I would be down for a metal spacer GB. It's too bad that this case design doesn't support the acrylic spacer as optional. One of the reasons I love the TGR Jane-CE so much is because of how sleek the case is w/o the acrylic spacer at all.

Hey guys, if you watched the stream tonight, the Mech 27 TKL has run into some issues.  The prototype used M2.5 screws, but the production model was threaded improperly.  Devin is going to try some M3 screws and update us soon.

Short livestream:
60%: Prophet, GSKT-00 x2, Poly GSKT-00-Z, Weaven, Sangeo60, Unikorn R2.1, Ciel60

TKL: TGR Jane V2, Jane V2 CE, KFE, Noxary 280 S, Acrylic Unicorn, Igris V1, LZ-GHv2

From the sounds of it, the threading of the screw holes is too big for the existing screws.

Is is possible to find suitable screws for a larger threading that will still fit the holes you sink the screws into?

meeeh :(

That's what I'm wondering too. Seems to perhaps not be a total disaster if M3 screws will work instead of the 2.5s. That shouldn't effect too much else within the board design/ performance/ aesthetics.... right??

Everything about M-screws is defined by a standard, including the diameter of the screw head:
http://www.engineersedge.com/iso_socket_head_screw.htm

The head of a M3 screw has a 5.5mm diameter while a M2.5 screw has a 4.5mm diameter. That's why I got very worried about this diameter of the holes the screw heads sink into (case bottom)

First we gotta find out WHAT threading they put into the holes though ... might not even be metric ...

Ya thinking of the same thing. If m3 works maybe some Dremmel/sandpaper can help modding the screws to fit the inserts.

I haven't gotten the M2.5 screws yet (thanks usps) but I'm going to buy some M3 screws in the next day or two at a local place and test if those will work.  I'll try to handle this as quickly as I can, but this is a definite setback.

The bevels in the top case may also be too small for the screw head to fit in which might leave the screw head sticking up also.

Should try to mod the screws before modding the case for sure

Ok, thank you realists, you've sufficiently harshed my mellow. I'm a pathological optimist, was hoping the ripple may not be that bad.

I didn't think about the diameters of hole within the the case recesses in the bottom case and the screw head. Obviously that could all be very tricky and necessitate factory involvement. Tally810- I'm not sure I understand your comment on the bevels in the top case being a concern as well... aren't there just the threaded holes for the screws to grab on the top case?

Here's to hoping that 27 has some luck with the M3s fitting naturally or being Dremmel-able so the boards as-is will work. Re-machining holes in the case and/or spacers would seem to send this a bit sideways for a while... Fingers crossed, 27! Please keep us posted.

I'm really hoping this issue can be fixed while preserving the same aesthetics that the board should have had :\.  I can't see paying 400+ for a board that is not what I signed up for.  However I do not blame 27 for this and nobody else should be putting anything on him for this issue.

This was the first thing I thought of as well. Having used helicoils often enough I know they can be a real PITA. If this was a manufacturers error I'd want them to fix it rather than fight with that many helicoil installations,

Would it be perhaps possible to order custom screws?  m3 diameter/threading with smaller heads?  (not part of this GB, just thinking "out loud").
