Looking for help creating a custom phantom keyboard.
« on: Fri, 23 May 2014, 19:46:24 »
Hi guys, thinking of creating a custom phantom keyboard, and I'm hoping you guys can help me out.

Here's what I want to do:
  • Phantom TKL /w blue switches
  • Custom layered case

I'm thinking of doing a layered case like so:
  • steel top cover
  • steel mounting plate for switches
  • wood frame
  • steel bottom panel

Right now, I'm looking for someplace to create the steel parts out of CAD data, and I've been getting some quotes for the mounting plate.
So far, one has quoted me for $120, one has quoted $60, and one has told me it's not possible because there would be too much warping.

What should I believe? I do understand that there will be some warping, but will it be that bad? Why are the quoted prices so different?
Looking for some advice on how I could go about this.

Thanks :D
