Given the current situation and the shear number of sets being crammed into the queue, I'm having trouble believing that it's taken over seven months to ship such a relatively small add on kit.

You'd think so, but GMK Greek Beige Add-on is facing a similar issue.

We ended the GB entry period on November 16, 2019. It's April and we still haven't gotten even close to finishing production.

GMK is overwhelmed, and it has begun to show amidst all this in their delays in responses and production.

Guess i missed the group buying phase.. but since they are still not delivered: can you tell me if any extra sets are being produced to purchase from the vendors (specifically EU)?

Or does anyone not want their order anymore? I'd take 1-2 of these kits. :)

I thought I read that they were supposed to be adding machines and help to ramp up production? We've gone from 4 months on fairly large MOQ sets to almost eight plus months. Looks like 8008 took almost eight months to ship from what I can tell. A simple beige add on in stock colors taking this long seems ridiculous.

They almost need to start limiting the number of sets they accept in any given month, or god forbid we stop cramming more rainbow puke weeb sets into the queue.  ;D

yes, that is what I am thinking.

I may turn out as our luck that this set has been delayed so much  because the WOB/BOW Icon Mod drama maybe changed the mindset of GMK production engineers.

I have received information that GMK has shipped out the set and it has arrived at our European vendor. The set is looking good and does not seem to have the issues that GMK WOB/BOW icond mods had for example.
242611-0242613-1242615-2242617-3242619-4242621-5
1. Just because the sets have arrived does not mean that they will be shipped out immediately, please be patient.
2. Our US and Asian vendor will not received their sets as quickly as the European vendor has.

it looks like GMK has fixed the issue.
I mean it can only be sth small that went wrong. according to them they have better machines now than cherry  used to have and cherry doubleshots were pretty much flawless compared wo what we have seen by GMK in the recent past.
let's hope for the best so that we can still enjoy great GMK sets in the future! in my opinion there is no keycap which comes close.

Great board! Is it a r2 or r1 cypher, I have mine but it's ansi so I'd feel bad putting my og caps, even if I easily can with missing keys.
Btw, my novatouch is complete! All bottom row caps and the caps lock have been replaced and now are all the same color and feel!

Soak them in peroxide under a UV light or retrobright them.

Actually, we found outthat sunlight on its own is enough.
But there must not be a window in between. Sunlight must be direct.

You can even just use a sous-vide

Yeah, I found out that my caps are a little bit yellowed. Will look into retrobrighting, but finding peroxide with large enough concentrations is going to be a pita.

Looks great, I'll source some peroxide and try it out in a couple of days when the sun comes back out again. I noticed you put them all in a bowl, do you need to stirr up the caps every once in a while to get them evenly exposed to the sun or will it turn out fine either way?

Nah, I didn't stir it at all, just threw them in a bowl, covered with peroxide and left - some caps were up side down and still got cleaned. Tried to turn them all correctly, but air bobbles under them kept turning them back up :)

Make sure you use at least 12% - it should burn your skin on fingers in seconds (skin goes white) - that means its good :D

I tried retrobrighting mine using the sous vide method, but it took too much so in the end I just left the caps below the hot Spanish sun, and it seems to have worked.
I only used 5% peroxide however I don't know because it wasn't that yellowed or because there was a lot of sun.

I filled a zip lock bag with the caps and 3% peroxide and stuck them under a plant light in the cold Michigan winter. Took a few days of checking the color levels but they match the Classic Retro set I have and there's no yellowness. Did three sets that way and they turned out pretty nice.

The heat activating the peroxide is what works best.

Gave the caps a nice bath in ~12% peroxide for 5 hours in the midday sun yesterday and I couldn't be more happy with the results.
Aside from the shine it is tough to tell the difference between Missing Keys and OG now.

Looks great, glad to see you made them match. I know shine is desired but there's always sandblasting to add texture and remove shine.

Mine just arrived today  ;D

I was going to mix this set with some of my OG Cherry keycaps.  However, I'm a legend nitpicker, and after a more scrutinized look at the set, I spot more and more issues.

Here's my initial look:
More

And here's my analysis:

More

A little crud on the spacebar here -- not a big deal, but I'm not sure how hard the crud is on the bar and whether it'd be easily cleanable.  I haven't opened to package yet though, as that could affect the resale value if I so choose to resell this set out of disappointment.

I noticed right away that the bottom row legends are very misaligned.  So bad, in fact, that it looks like the Control legend is centered on the cap, and not left-aligned.  This would've been tolerable, but cheaper keycaps have these types of issues, which really degrades my experience.  By this point, I've started to compare these keycaps to the OG Cherry equivalent.

The Fn key isn't even aligned horizontally.  It is higher than normal.

The Shift key legends are also degrading.  Some parts of the icon is bowed, mainly where "the square meets the triangle of the arrow", if that makes any sense.

Some legends are "lanky", stretched vertically.  The Alt key looks to be alright, but the Pg Dn is not quite there.  Pg Up has the same issue, but I didn't take a picture of it.

And the backslash key looks to be very misaligned too.  The 1u key has thinner legends than the 1.5u one also.

The "e" in the Super keys are a telltale signs of bad legends.

I'm not very into contemporary items like GMK sets, as I mainly work with more vintage items, but with this outcome the set here is quite disappointing for me.  Let me just make it clear that this is not the vendor's fault, nor do I blame them for it.  But, man... I thought I didn't have that high of an expectation.  I did hear that GMK's quality has dropped considerably in newer produced sets, though, and I guess this set is one of its victims.  Quite a shame.  I'd imagine other people have the same issues as I did.

Thanks for your analysis. I am a nitpicker myself and it is really helpful to have this kind of comparison.

This is where I am coming from:
I was actually really afraid how this set would come out given all the issues we had in the past with GMK Sets.
To be quite honest. The issues you described are very minor compared to what happened to other sets in the past and I am really happy with how it all turned out in the end.

I am not saying you are wrong, just want to put everything into perspective given the present environment with GMK being a monopoly in a shortage economy.

Thanks again for your assessment. You did a great job.
