GMMK 2, any opinion?
« on: Tue, 24 May 2022, 07:22:09 »
I wonder what do you think about the gmmk 2. I'm looking for a 100% (or near it), ISO keyboard with QMK, so it may be a good choice. Thanks for any suggestion.

Glorious has a history of being a sketchy company as a whole, stealing keycap sets and selling them as their own, and i honestly don't want to support them

Built one for a friend. After lubing the stabs and switches it sounded pretty good. That being said glorious is like drop and any of those other big keyboard companies. They're all pretty ****ty and I wouldn't give them your money (Especially not to drop)
One, Two, Three, Four, Five, Six, Seven, Eight, Nine, Ten, Eleven, Twelve, Thirteen, Fourteen, Fifteen, Sixteen, Seventeen, Eighteen, Nineteen, Twenty... Yeah that seems about right.

Thanks for the feedback. My only doubt is the fact that bottoming out is probably quite hard, like the gmmk pro.

They're probably the only ones offering QMK at an industrial scale of production. They're way better than keychron, which has a the most confusing product line ever, and some obscure and often unavailable QMK keyboards.

About copyright, I think that colorschemes are overrated. Here in geekhack there is a big tolerance for copytheft. Look for example at the cocacola spacebars, the dyno stolen from chrome, or that orange and black keycaps set.

A gorilla that eats crayons could come up with good colorways. It is like those neanderthals on HGTV that paint brick white and nail some wood on the wall and call themselves home designers.

For things that are actually novel, like new mechanisms, copy protection makes sense. It incentivizes creativity and innovation.

Not a lawyer but I have been down this path a bit...

Generally you can't really trademark colors, singular or plural. Or copyright. Or patent.
You can trademark it if it can be tied to brand identity but it only holds only for a specific industry for example Target and Coke both use red and white but different industries. That doesn't mean lawyers won't try and push their luck but when push comes to shove they will lose in court so long as it's not marketed as such or tied to a similar industry.

Any mass produced MX keyboard is inherently uninteresting and boring to me.

Akko, Glorious, Keychron, Royal Kludge... 🥱 pass.

I say quite the opposite, low end is FAR more exicting.
The only way a high end board is surprising is when it's bad, low end however has made huge strides in how good they can be.

so you are saying that people on a budget should skip everything that is under lets say: 300$? its not like everyone has money to buy expensive keyboards companies like this are pretty much the only way to get a decent enthusiast keyboard for a good price. elitism shouldn't be allowed here.
