Is there any full set metal caps?
« on: Thu, 07 November 2013, 14:49:40 »
Hey, i'm new to this forum, so i hope i do everything right.

I want metal/zinc keycaps because i hate glossy plastic-keycaps, and pbt seems that it's not that much bang for the buck? Am i right if i say that zinc keycaps don't wear out?

Where is it possible to buy full/tkl metal keycap sets? I've seen letter-key versions on ebay but i want a full set.

Thanks.

PBT is nice. Feels a lot better than ABS to me.

Hard to argue with those prices and the fonts actually don't suck.
Buying more keycaps,
it really hacks my wallet,
but I must have them.

Zinc caps will wear out, but aluminum ones won't.

However, the scarface set (the only full metal set) goes for $400+ in the classifieds.

Where can I find a scarface set? I've never heard of this.

Does it include all the standard keys?

metal zinc caps will make your board feel quite differently. there was a thread on /r/mechanicalkeyboards with a few people who have bought some sets from Feng talking about the feel. they are slightly heavier than plastic caps.   people seemed to like stiffer springs with the metal caps.

I like the mixture, I could have completed the set with the Hammer GB but it just doesn't interest me.

Doesn't it become like a variable board since the scarface caps are heavier?

I guess it does, I have them on browns at the moment. They are amazing to type on, so much nicer than the zinc caps.

It does depend on how you type, I don't hammer the keys so the sound is quite nice. I hardly use them though, Topre all the way!

Sorry, I am also new here and wondering if we came to the conclusion on where we could get a full set of metal caps. [Those aluminium look amazing, where can I throw my money at?]

I love my zinc alphas on my Das. I'm considering moving them over to my QFS with greens, but I also have a Miami set on the way, so dilemma dilemma. I also have MKC modifiers on the way from Banggood, so I really don't know what to do. And that seems to be the closest you can get to a full board so far.

I'll be sure to move them all around and take plenty of pictures for those interested.

Thanks, I saw those before registering here, and since have messaged Feng about R4s.
Once I've got my board all decked out I'll post some pics.

Thanks Again, Taylor

I really wanted to try these with my MX clears board but I saw a post of how the zinc looks like after some use and I decided against it. I didn't think it would be so heavily worn from fingers.

Two+ months of daily use on my board hasn't shown any signs of wear with my set. The reason that one picture is giving a bad name is because of the user's probable poor hygiene before using his keyboard, and the fact that those keys have legends. Legends on those keys mean the coating isn't as thick at that specific point. As soon as a key gets more worn, the cap is comprised where the legend is, allowing deterioration as seen in that picture.

Feels pretty weird as well since the keycaps are so heavy
