Title: Hello :)
Post by: Bot Hack Berlin on Wed, 29 July 2020, 11:45:00
I've known about mechs for a while but never got into the custom scene, but with the recent global health situation I found myself bored to death and started looking for new things to do.
Looking around for interesting keyboards to get I got reunited --with my at the time grail-- the HHKB Pro 2 and decided it was time to finally buy one.
I love this keyboard, but it has left me lingering for more as mods for this keeb are rare or expensive.

I'm considering getting another UNIX layout based board or an ortho as the layout intrigues me.

Welcome.  As another UNIX keyboard user, I recommend considering a bucking spring from UNIComp, I have 2, they're amazing.  I also have 2 of GONs TKL PCBs and one of his cases, I'll be making keebs out of them later this year.  1Up sells GONs TKL PCB, so once they get rolling again they should be another valid source for his PCB - I ordered mine from him via email/paypal and received them in about 3 1/2 weeks - 2 weeks ago.

There aren't a lot of other options with the 1x1x backspace switch setup (the rest of it is programming).  If you find others let me know, I'm always on the hunt.  I have 2 UNIComps, 2 Gons TLKs, a HHKB Lite2 and a MassDrop Z70.

Cheers mate, awesome to see another UNIX user on here. Thanks for the recommendations, I'll have a gander what they offer.
In the event that I do manage to find another board, I'll let you know!

Welcome to the forums!

There were certainly cheaper things to get into during this pandemic, but I'm happy you've found joy nonetheless, hehe.

There certainly were cheaper things to get into, but if I'm going to be typing a lot whilst being stuck at home I might as well do it on something that's beautiful.

Exactly this! I justify it by working with computers all day - it's an investment in your own happiness!

I always like the quote by one of the creators of the HHKB:

“Cowboys in the western United States leave their horses when they die. But never leave their saddles, regardless of how long they need to walk in the desert. Saddles are interfaces that are deeply adapted to our bodies whereas horses are consumable items. It should not be forgotten that computers are consumables nowadays, but keyboards are interfaces that we can use through our lives.”

Couldn't have said it better myself, and that's as great qoute for how one can see the relation between computer and keyboard.
