I would imagine the PCB is exactly the same. Just no LED's

I would think it'd be easier in the long run to get one with LEDs because I want to say you have to replace the entire switch with one that has an LED in it.  I may be wrong (And often am), though.

Nope, all switches support LEDs

Most non LED Pures have ABS keys that are pretty much the same as Poker ABS keys. Mine also came with PBT keys, neither set has see-through caps. As far as the LEDs I'm not really sure, but I don't think you can just solder them on and have them work. The regular back lit pure actually has some function keys implemented to turn on the LEDs, adjust their brightness, and put them in "breath" mode where they get lighter and darker over and over again.

I had a thought about buying a board and swapping LED's... and i like pure's... but i'm not sure if i want to try to grab a poker, before they disappear...

But: (and i have a feeling that "Deck's" LED-guide may be relevant here...)

*IF buying a board with the intention of swapping in different colored LED's:

Which color would be "best" to start with? Which original color could be most "compatible" with the most other colors?

Ex: Buying a board w/ White LED's, and swapping in Purples?

Which "color swap" would be most feasible, and least complicated?

(i would guess "fV" and "resistors" and such, would come into play here...)

I felt this idea was relevant, due to the fact that you're wanting to add LED's, or buy one with the "wrong" color, and then swap in the "right" color.

The different color bulbs apparently have different voltages, so that's a factor... wouldn't want to get a board that you'd have to add a bunch of stuff, or even remove stuff, just to make your chosen color work (safely!). Would rather have one that you can just "drop in" the different colored LED's, if such a thing is possible.

Why not buy the white LED version and use alcohol based dye to color the ones you want, then if you feel the need you could always recolor them. WASD was also talking about looking for colored LED "condoms" someone had mentioned a while back and carrying them when they start to sell their own backlit boards.

Hmm, that's interesting, and I had no idea of that. My plan (current, I suppose, after much discussion) would be to grab a white LED version, and swap out some of them for reds and blues.
I would recommend a look at "deck keyboards" website, and their LED-guide. I'm really no expert, or even a novice, in such things. All i know is that you have to solder, and the different bulbs have different voltages, which needs to be considered.

I was actually planning to go this route (with the colored covers for white LED's), instead of locking myself into one color... since there's no such thing as a "RGB-LED that fits in a cherry-mx switch LED slot."

And even if there were... i'm sure it would be rather complicated to set it up for "user-selectable" colors.

Someone should make some tiny RGB-LEDs, just for cherry switches. :/

It would be pretty awesome to be able to make any light any color (or even on/off), with a GUI.

Maybe someday... :/

Then again... maybe a poker w/ a premium custom cap set, and a "glow-wire" inside the case, would be kinda neat... instead of hassling with all those LED problems. ;)

That is completely an option. Would any alcohol based color dye work? And it shouldn't damage them?

I'm not sure which type would be simplest or best to use and I haven't tried it myself, I've just run across mention of others doing it when I was considering something similar to what you're asking. The thread might have actually been in the DIY section of these forums, I'll take a look in a bit.

K i'm back.

Before i reached mechanicalkeyboards.com, fiendishly scurrying, wallet in-hand, toward an optimal position from which to throw my money...

I realized that
A) Newegg is doing a 15% off all keyboards thing, and...
B) the logitech g710+ is:
    1) available
    2) with free shipping
    3) and qualifies for the discount.

/passout

IDK WHAT TO DOOOOO!

I like the g710. However, i like the idea of having a tiny board, as well.

The difference between the price i could get on a g710 today, and the cost of a brand new pure i'd have to modify... is really not much.

That said: i might prefer to grab the g710 at a discount, and wait for the "GH60 (aka Phantom Mini)" to be completed, and get that for my little-board.

That said...

@esoomenona: PM incoming.
