It will be unlimited but I will be running it for a limited amount of time. Somewhere in the neighborhood of 2-3 weeks so that everyone that wants to join can get in.

I'm curious how high is the profile of the case around the keycaps for the aluminum version? On some renderings it looks like the bottom of the caps sit below that top surface by a mm or two and on the 3d printed protos they seem almost flush. Thanks!

The keycaps sit about 1-2 mm below the profile of the case, this is the same on both the 3D printed case and the aluminum. I made the render with the keycaps before I had made an actual prototype and could use them as reference.

Not on the aluminum, but I'm thinking of offering a no-slope and a negative slope option for the 3D printed case. If you would be interested in something like that, let me know and I can work on implementing that for the final options.

The case is really cool and the design is superb. It sounds a bit hollow based on the instagram videos of the prototype. Will there be foam options/possibility to add your own foam?

Thinking about $50-60 for the PCB, should be listed before the keyboard even comes out, if you would like to pick one up. I'll be running a separate IC just for that as well. I can link to that after it's posted.

I do think a lot of the hollowness is attributed to the poor placement of the microphone in the sound tests, but I have been considering getting a foam-cutter (like Stupidfish or similar) to make some for this board.

Yeah this is just a case to fit standard 60% PCBs. The aluminum prototype has already been ordered! Should arrive in a few weeks and I'll have more to share then, including the launch of my website.

Excited to see the prototype! Its awesome you are offering a cheaper 3D printed option too, so its more accessible to everyone! I would 100% be down for a 3D printed standard 60% or hhkb (since hhkb style cases are harder to come by).

UPDATE 3/22/21 | Both prototypes are at the finishing shops. The anodizing shop is one of the best in the country, and I can't want to show off their work. The powdercoating shop will be doing the off white and I'm very excited to see how that turns out as well. These protos should be back within another week or so, and expect another update then.

Packaging samples have been ordered and will be here in about 3 weeks. The keyboards will come in a hard case with custom cut foam (similar to a Pelican case). I can't wait to show off everything that I've been working on.

Another update is that I've opened a Discord server where you can come ask me questions directly or want to follow the project without following me on Insta. Link for that is below and on the top level post.

so cool. I think if you make some changes and go for 65% with ther same dimensions or maybe a few milimeters adjustments, you will get an ever more positive response. 65% is all the rage these days.

UPDATE 7/28/21 | The last pieces of the puzzle are coming together! I'm currently waiting on the powder coating shop to coat my prototypes in Off White and Industrial Gray, so that I can see what the final product will look like.

After that, I'm going to be running a friends and family sale for 6 units. There will 2 Off White units, 2 Clear Anodize, 1 Industrial Gray, and one custom powdercoat for a friend. These boards will have a numbered weight, and a concealed Nick Kazoos signature. I will be sending the boards out to reviewers to build before they ship out to customers.

In about 2-3 months time (sorry about the delays, I'm trying to make sure all my ducks are in a row before I take anyone's money), I will be running the group buy. I aim to have them shipped out late this year / early next year to customers. 3D printed cases will ship out a bit faster.

Oh, i know brother! I've been staying up to date as much as i can. Probably going to get an HHKB 3d print this round, (in case the world ends, and there is no round 2) and an aluminum HHKB on R2 and this is definitely a board I wouldn't mind having 2 of..

150$ (i think that what it's supposed to be) isn't so bad, but i'm going to be sanding, filling, and painting mine, so it won't have that ugly 3d print look. If i wasn't going to do that, i'd agree 100%.
Word is, an aluminum HHKB case is in the works for R2. So you could wait for that.

Any standard 60% PCB will fit in this case. But if you plan on using an ALPS PCB with this board, it will require a new plate. I'll be releasing the plate files along with the keyboard

Okay, that makes sense. Thanks so much for the clarification Kazoos! I am super excited about this project; I got into vintage keyboards for my pandemic hobby but the Modern F caught my eye and is the only group buy I am interested in this year.

I am very much interested in an option for a blank front badge; though even if you're not able to offer that, I love that the badge is removable/replaceable.

I have a split-spacebar DZ60 already built with BOX Pink clicky switches that I would love to transfer straight into this case. Need bezels to give it some physical presence!
