Hello

Find myself yearning for mechanical keyboard discussion from time to time, so thought I'd sign up here.  I've been using a QuickFire Rapid (Red) for the last few years.

Thanks for the warm welcome.  Not new boards, but new keycaps!

Not sure yet, been looking at PBT caps for quite a while now, but it's always been too hard to justify spending 40+ on keycaps.  As such, I've learned to embrace the... you know... shine, slickness and whatnot :D

Welcome dood! I read your comment above about looking into PBT keycaps, you're smart to be weary about spending money on keycaps. From my experience once your wallet opens it stays open. However, IMO thick PBT or thick ABS keycaps are definitely worth their price. Shine is one thing, for me the sound and feel of the PBT is incredible over most stock ABS keycaps. I hear that high quality thick ABS such as GMK is similar as well. Anyway, best of luck not spending money!

Welcome to Geekhack!

QFR is a good solid keyboard, I have one with blacks and still swap it in every now and again.

For PBT keycaps, you won't find many sets below $40.  But consider that PBT keycaps should last you for quite a few years, so as long as you get a colourway you like you shouldn't find yourself buying set after set.

Tai Hao sets are usually a bit cheaper, reasonable quality, and sometimes available through Massdrop.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada
