"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

It's a complete joke, a shop has stock of something and they sell it, they don't put a coming soon banner on stock and leave it for a few days. a few hours to generate a bit of hype, maybe. The guy (edit: Brian or whatever his name is, not talking about cc) is taking the piss.
People moan about the expensive resale value of these things, well at least that's a reasonable transaction. I would rather let someone else waste 2 days and give them a hundred bucks for their trouble than give these clowns at elite keyboards 30 bucks. There's a ton of other stuff I want, a hhkb for example, but I'll be taking me business elsewhere. And hopefully manage to pick up the odd clack when CC sells them here, he respects his customers and does the right thing.

I can get what I want cos I can afford to buy it in the resale market. People with more time than money can get it. It's the crap business practice I am moaning about, EK are dangling a carrot and laughing their arses off at our expense, does anyone else feel that way, or is it just me?

I have another day off today and I'm off for a slap up yum cha and a movie, about what I would spend on three of these caps, and I'll enjoy it a helluva lot more than yesterday pressing f5 50,000 times to try and get another bit of plastic to stick on my keyboard!

Better than a clack sale where a 3 second difference in when you submit your email means getting a CC or not.

CC sales last about 3 seconds

EK sales are like 5 minutes

At least he's sending an email when they go on sale, he could just put them up randomly and let the F5ers get them first

It sounds like the delay in the sale is to test a new system that will make it "more fair"  I hope it is.

The only 'fair' system is a lottery, leave the application open for a week and then draw the winners.

The most fair thing would be for CC to make a preorder, then make that amount of keycap. No butthurt.

the fair thing to do is advertise the product and then sell it, there's no need for a lottery or pre-orders. Some ppl get some and some don't, that's no big deal. It's in high demand so it sells out quickly, I got no problem with that, and if I miss out because I'm not around I got no problem with that either. I have a problem with advertising a product as in stock but refusing to sell it. If they are not ready to sell then why advertise?

Why? He can sell it when he decides it's time. If it said "out of stock" right now, then no one would care?

Technically he's in the advertising phase anyways, see this entire thread, it's one big ad

I don't agree with that, I think it's balls when after the sale EK leave the caps up on the site with "no stock" for ages, that's equally crap
anyhoo, I guess he can run his business however he likes, but like I said I got better things to do than mash f5 all day

also, the timing of it isn't relevant to anything, they will sell out in a heartbeat whenever they go on sale, it's not as if they are poised to maximise exposure or whatever. It doesn't need advertising. Like you say, we do it all for them.

Newegg does this all the time. When they sell out, they put "no stock" because they know they'll be getting more soon. Why take down the page if they're going to be putting it right back up once they get more. The only difference is the EK is that he doesn't know when CC is going to make them of not so EK must just leave them as "no stock"

That or is lazy in updating pages.
