Kiibohd 4 - Bay Area Monthly Keyboard Meetup
« on: Sun, 05 January 2014, 12:59:18 »
It's 2014! Time for another Kiibohd Meetup :D

I've got lots of neat stuff to talk about this month (kicking off two new "keyboard switch" projects), as well as lots of interesting keyboards to show off :D
Just last night I discovered an "Acoustic" keyboard.

This meetup will be at the San Jose TechShop:
(Conference Room) on February 1st, 2014 @ 1 PM
(Jan 25th is also possible at 2 PM, let me know if this works better).

The next meetup will likely be at Massdrop HQ in San Francisco.

Please indicate if you are planning on coming, or if there is anything you'd like me (or someone else) to bring.
Kiibohd

ALWAYS looking for cool and interesting switches
I take requests for making keyboard converters (i.e. *old keyboard* to USB).

I feel you man. I Caltrain the other way on many Saturdays. Weekend service is so lousy.

If there are enough of us commuting from the city to sj maybe we could split a car with one of those ride sharing services. It would be cheaper than buying 3-4 caltrain tickets.

If someone is paying for a car, I’m glad to pitch in my share. Definitely nicer than Caltrain (esp. on a weekend when it’s all slow trains).

OOhh I'm really interested in making it to this. I'm currently still living in Fresno but I'm moving to the east bay in a few months.

Also I would be willing to drive from East bay/SF to SJ after I get settled in, so maybe for the next meetup?

Just reserved the room from 1 till 3 PM.
They recently changed the booking so I have to find another person to book with me or pay $95 an hour...
Srsly though, unless someone else books the room right after we can keep using it.

This just means people should show up on time, rather than the usual 30-45 minutes late  :))

jwaz: are you saying you have a car? If so, I’d be happy to meet you at any arbitrary BART stop [i.e. Millbrae would be fine], and pay some for gas, etc. Or if you’re still talking about using a zipcar / getaround car / etc., pitch in my share.

Is one of those guys driving? If so, I’m happy to join in and also throw some gas money. :)

Currently my plan is to take Caltrain, but someone else with a car (or splitting a Zipcar or whatever) would definitely be preferable.

Actually, Google Maps apparently recommends I take the BART over toward the East Bay down to Freemont, and then take the 181 bus from Freemont to San Jose. (2 hours that way.)

Like I mention at the meetups, preference on the date goes to who asks first :P (exceptions do apply though...)

Not my video, but...srsly, why the gloves. They aren't going to protect you from the Anthrax...

I won another keyboard with the rare Brown Alps today on ebay (it's been a long time since I've seen one on ebay).

The IBM 5140 and keyboards do show up on ebay from time to time and are usually not that pricey.
I haven't made a converter/controller for one yet, but it wouldn't be that difficult. Most of the work would be getting a connector for it :P

As of yet, there have been no attempts on my life (that I know of  )

Still, I need to figure out where my keyboards go if I kick the bucket skiing or biking somewhere...
I don't really want them sold off (not that I care about that), but each one needs to be probably chronicled and switches characterized  ;D
