Custom Keyboard Concept

To those of you who are experienced with ergo layouts, would something like a split ortholinear that uses standard keycap sizes be useful? I am thinking of trying something like this on my laser cutter at school!

The left side seems OK but the right side may have a few keys that are hard to reach, like backspace and '='.  One way to see if you like the layout is to print it out on a piece of paper and type on it.

I like it. However, i find the space would be awkward in the middle.

What "standard" size keycaps are the spaces? Usually people use shifts as spaces for split spacebars, but you're using the shifts as shifts. I'm not sure if I like the look of the layout, but I do really like the idea of being able to easily find keycaps for split boards.

If you are ditching the F-keys and arrow keys, do you have a plan how you would replace those? On my design I have added a 'Fn' key that shifts to a second layer that has all those keys.

I'd recommend using a standard spacebar size like 2u, 2.25u, or 2.75u
