I am probably throwing what little GH rep I had into the bin with this.
I don't think any of us is pretending that this group buy is running smoothly. Not only have I gotten quicker replies from group buy runners from China who barely spoke any English and had very limited access to Discord (according to them the application was blocked completely), but I have gotten a product from a group buy within the promised time frame that had no communication at all.
Not only has Weaston produced the wrong keyboard file (remember that?), he also didn't take the 4 months it's taken to receive the PCBs to start cerakoating. And seeing how the boards still aren't shipped over a month after getting the PCBs I can only assume he also didn't use the time to pre-package the boards to speed the whole process up either. I mean maybe he did, maybe he didn't. We won't know because he won't tell us and doesn't log into GH for weeks at a time. This whole "only update when update" thing is not helpful in any way. An explanation why things aren't moving forward in an expected time frame is also in need of an update. And "no update" at least lets us know that the runner is still present and invested into the project.
To clear the air a bit, producing the wrong file is annoying but there is nothing anyone can do to change that. Weaston has given us an acceptable solution to the problem and there is no need to potentially drive someone into financial ruin by re-producing all the bottom pieces just so we can put our feetsies on.
We also don't know what else is going on behind the scenes. Maybe he's very busy and didn't have time or the nerves pre-packing and cerakoating the boards while waiting for the PCBs, so no need to get aggressive about that.
But with months upon months of no communication and then getting a very to-the-point update that only contains the latest project developments we kind of have to assume that he's just sitting on his ass the entire time twiddling his thumbs and choosing to ignore us. Or he doesn't, we can't know.
I completely agree and understand that every participant agreed to get the keyboard "whenever", doesn't mean people can't get annoyed by how things are handled while having no actual deadlines and not knowing what to expect next.
Will this ship? Yes, absolutely.
Does Weaston have only the best intentions in mind? Yes, absolutely.
Can Weaston or us magically speed things up? No.
Am I actually enraged and reeing because of a metal rectangle? Na, I'm just a bit annoyed at the guessing game we have to play.
I fully believe that Weaston can deliver the promised product and once we all have it in hand we will love and enjoy it.
Okay, time to forget about this again for a couple weeks.
