Cherry G80-3000 Keycaps on Leopold TKL
« on: Fri, 16 March 2012, 02:54:00 »
Hey there,

so I was wondering if the keycaps of the Cherry G80-3000 fit on a Leopold Tenkeyless. I know that Leopold used another spacebar but what is with the 37 layout, F1-F12 keys etc.? I would buy a used one from ebay if the keys will fit :-).

Does anybody know an answer?

Regards,

Yeah, they should. You will need to use a full set as the profiles are different. Your caps lock key and modifiers may not fit depending on model so you will also need to buy a moogle kit. There is a group buy for that going on.

Yes and no. Most caps will fit, except for space, caps lock, and modifiers. Those caps were reproduced in the "moogle kit", which is available in the DS GB 4 run by 7bit. Hazeluff will be running a seperate gb just for the moogle.

If you are looking for a set of 880-3000 layout doubleshots for a decent price let me know, I have a bunch left over in ISO-DE Layout. I will also get ANSI caps in the next week or two.

F*ck moogle kits. Grab an 8113 and 8000 to get set like I've posted. I only have spacebar left to mod for stem fitting, all original Cherry doubleshots, except the esc key. Cost about $55 for whole set.

Yeah, I'm not too hot on Signature Plastic Moogle Kits these days.

I gotta go look up how much I paid for these.  Everybody keeps telling me to be patient and wait for iteration #42.

1.5x vs 1.25x sized Ctrl, anything wrong? Most modern day standard are 1.25x sized(except boards made by iOne).

It sure is not easy or inexpensive getting white 1.25 Cherry control and alt keys, so probably just grabbed what he did have around, which happened to be a 1.5. It still illustrates the point about how close yet far they are from being a perfect match. Hell he didn't even show a shot from the side, where you see how heinous they really are in regard to profile match which is my biggest sore point.

So sure, if you are only after a white set... a moogle may still be the most realistic option (I would still opt for Cherry lasered personally over SP keys), but for black set there is little excuse in my opinion as they are easy and cheap enough to get the real thing.
