[ON HOLD] APRIL? 2016 GEEK HACK DOUBLE SHOT GROUP BUY
« on: Fri, 08 April 2016, 10:17:57 »
ANNOUNCEMENT:

So, PayPal decided to do a 'merchant review' of my business PayPal account, after I took in quite a bit of money in the JD45 group buy. Long story short, they have placed a hold on that account, pending proof of delivery. Since those orders were all pre-orders, my PayPal account will, in essence, be locked until after the JD45 orders ship. Due to that fact, I cannot take orders for the April GH keycap group buy, unless I can find an alternate method of receiving payments. As soon as I can receive payments again, I will start the group buy.

On a happier note, I am now able to ship international orders for the same price as domestic orders. So there is some good news, anyway!

Thank you,
JD

Why does PayPal do that kind of stuff? If you have a merchant account and the orders were for services, then I don't see why they need to review it.

Because I transferred all the money for the JD45 orders, except for the shipping funds, out of the account and into my bank account to make the payment to TEX for the keyboards to be produced. If all my customers suddenly open disputes, that leaves PayPal on the hook for thousands of dollars, if they can't recover the funds from me. I can understand why they might see it as risky. But my customers aren't going to do that. :)

Thanks for the update JD :)

A shame about PayPal though.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Is there anyone who would participate in the buy, but cannot use anything but PayPal? I'm looking into Stripe for credit card payments, or maybe Google Wallet or Amazon Payments.

I think Google Pay would be best, and Stripe would be second. Unless Amazon Payments let's you use your Amazon account. In that case Amazon payments would be best.

Unfortunately, PayPal won't budge until I can provide proof of delivery for several of the JD45 keyboard pre-orders. I should have those in hand to start shipping around the end of June. Once they release the hold on my account, I can start these back up again. But I don't anticipate running more than one colorway at a time.

Now the Feb GB is rolling again can we get a update on this one?

I have Jan and Feb keys waiting to be shipped to Canada in a bundle of three so if this isn't going to happen any time soon I might as well get it shipped as a bundle of two.

Thanks for all the hard work JD  :thumb:

Yeah, it had nothing to do with any disputes or anything. They detected "suspicious activity" following and account review. Yeah, I transferred the funds out to a bank account, so that I could wire them to TEX in Taiwan for manufacturing. :(

PayPal gave me a list of orders I had to provide "proof of delivery" for. I sent those orders out a few days ago, all with signature confirmation. All but one of those orders has been delivered. Unfortunately, one of the orders was an international, so I'm not sure how long it will take for them to verify delivery on all those packages. I spoke to a few people in their merchant services, and they said I had done everything I needed to do, and it would be reviewed again once all packages show as delivered.

I spoke to a few people in their merchant services, and they said I had done everything I needed to do, and it would be reviewed again once all packages show as delivered.

ugh. so sorry, bro. yours is probably the worst case i have heard of paypal's "random  lockdowns" since implementing their new policies. i hope you get it straightened out right soon.
just curious - are you still going to use paypal, or have you found other methods of collecting payments?
