yeah, you need to post pics, as not a lot of fonts are common on al setups.

I have 4 times the exact same symbol :p

So I've been playing a lot of StepMania lately, and got the idea of getting a keypad and customizing it specifically for SM.
How cool would this be: [ Attachment Invalid Or Does Not Exist ] 49112[/ATTACH] dysubbed probably, to get the arrow thickness detail (the inner lines are probably too thin at this scale to make DS).

Additionally, a couple of other keys for enter, esc and tab (if you play stepmania you'll know why) could be awesome too.

Those would look GREAT as a PBT dyesub. Forget DS: the PBT texture will last longer.

I was considering suggesting some for "frets on fire" http://fretsonfire.sourceforge.net/

Long time lurker here with my first mechanical board en route. Two things I would like to have on my board:

1. An escape key shaped like a mushroom cloud. The mushroom top covers the key stem to the back edge, and the stem of the cloud starts at the front bottom edge.
2. A spacebar shaped like a blunt.

Both of these have potential to play very nicely with backlighting. I'll work up some sketches later (Warning, I'm no Leonardo - not even a Picasso!) - or maybe not if these don't pique anyone's interest.

Clever ideas, but feasibility is low.  You would need to find a way to make the keys yourself because the cost to have molds make commercially would be astronomical.

I'd be okay with hand carving them if I could obtain solid blanks somewhere.

Signature Plastics sells blanks for about a buck each unless you buy in bulk.  I got a set of clear blanks to replace my letters

You can also post a thread in the classified section, I'm sure you would find some eager sellers.

Do they have keys which are actually solid, i.e. not hollow in the back? (Apart from the hole for the switch stem of course.)
If they are hollow I'll have to figure out how best to fill them, which would complicate the project from the start...

If the key cap were solid the part of the switch that goes into the cap as you press it wouldn't be able to do that.  So then the switch would be unusable.

There is definitely a large void necessary to allow for a keystroke, but I'm guessing that the hollow space behind many keycaps (especially taller and more convex ones) is not the minimal required shape of the internal void, but more a function of the process used to achieve the external shape. If this weren't true you wouldn't hear people constantly commenting on differences in the thickness of keycaps. If one were to start from a solid cap I'm well aware there would be a lot of careful shaping of the indentation on the back to allow it to sit on the switch when depressed. I don't actually need a solid cap; I really only need the edges to have enough material behind them to achieve a more cylindrical shape for the spacebar.

It is an important point you made. The only appropriate starting point for planning a sculpted design is the minimal rear void necessary to achieve full depression (plus the minimum thickness) - not the desired exterior shape.

I was thinking of high-visibility keycaps perhaps with a font for dyslectics. Personally I am not a dyslectic nor have poor eyesight, but I do see the occasional question on these forums.
Something similar to this, but without the horrible font.
Maybe with a font like this: Project Dyslexie

I think it's more efficient to encourage people to learn to touch type. And then use bigger font/special font on the monitor.

But if you want those keys, I suggest you to contact Imsto, as he is able to make them for you, and eventually set up a group buy to get better prices.

Did anyone ever contact Deck or TG3 for custom doubleshot dye subliminated keycaps for backlit boards?

It seems like they are the only ones that offer keys for backlit boards that don't rely on clear keys with a coating that is lasered off.
Could be interesting, especially in a nice font for both Deck as other backlit board owners.
Even though they will probably have the same (minor) problems that Deck keys always have. (some light leakage around the edges)
