Looking at my eIPS U2412M and an older Samsung Syncmaster TN panel, there's a pretty significant difference in color reproduction. The Samsung is noticeably more yellow on all but the very lowest brightness setting. Viewing Angles are also a lot better, but that's one of the main properties of the IPS Panel. As far as refresh rates, I haven't seen anything very different from when I was using the TN Panel as my primary. I definitely think that IPS is worth it, though I'm personally staying away from glossy panels.

At work, four screens:
Left and Right Main screens: Soyo Topaz S (MVA) 24" @ 1920x1200 (5+ years old. Really nice for the price point, even today.)
Left Aux screen: Dell P2312H (TN?) 22" @ 1920x1080 (official work-provided screen. Really unimpressive.)
Right Aux: Dell 1908FP 19" (TN?) @ 1024x1280 (nice in portrait mode for e-mail)

At home, four screens:
Center: IBM T221 (IPS) @ 3840x2400 at 41Hz (amazingly beautiful and really hard to drive)
Left and Right: Samsung 2343BWX (TN?) @ 2048x1152 (nice quality panels)
Right Aux: IBM ThinkVision L170p (TFT) @ 1024x1280 (vertical for e-mail) (rotates well, old IBM LCD are pre-TN and look nice at any angle).

Thanks for sharing I'm curious to know how you utilize four screens?

Got any pics? And what video car/external dongle solution are you using?

I've been using three monitors for a while but have considering getting another.....just because!

Been in a traders office before. Most of the traders had between 8 to 10 monitors at each desk (though I think each person had two computers to drive all the monitors).
So if you're trading stocks, its not uncommon to have 4+ screens running.

Well, this thread's been necro'd a few times...but I guess I might as well post.

Main desktop:
-24" Sony GDM-FW900 (1920x1200 at 85 Hz by default, but I could run 2304x1440 at 80 Hz, 2560x1600 at 60 Hz, 1920x1080 at 100 Hz, or lower resolutions at up to 160 Hz)

Retrogaming desktop:
-21" Sun GDM-5410 (1600x1200 at 95 Hz)

Convertible Tablet PC:
-12" HP EliteBook 2730p w/BOE098B panel (1280x800 at...58.5 Hz, thus breaking a few games that insist on a 60 Hz minimum refresh rate? At least it's AFFS+!)

GDM-FW900 24" 16:10 Trinitron CRT 1920x1200@85Hz
IBM T221 22.1" 16:10 LCD 3840x2400@48Hz
LG F900P 19" 4:3 Flatron CRT 1600x1200@85Hz
BenQ G2400W 16:10 LCD 1920x1200@60Hz

But, I often run the CRTs using custom modelines with vertical sync at a multiple of 23.976 to get alias free frame synchronisation.

I've been using three monitors for a while but have considering getting another.....just because!

At work: C# and SQL on left and right screens. E-mail, calendar on the portrait to the far right (out of immediate focus and less distracting). On the far left, SQL Profiler, task manager, Debug Trace, etc.

From left to right it's:  Status, C#, SQL, E-mail.

At work, I've got a Dell Optiplex 990 with a single AMD video card (a 5450, I think). It has a DMS-59 output, which splits to dual DVI. It also has an on-board/on-chip integrated Intel video that drives a DisplayPort and VGA port on the motherboard. I recently learned that through some magic BIOS incantations and installing drivers in a very specific order, that one can drive all four video ports (Dual-DVI, DisplayPort, and VGA).

I've also used USB DisplayLink video converters (drives a 1900x1200 screen via a USB 2.0 port). These are handy but have some limitations (no video acceleration).

At home, driving the IBM T221 is super tricky and a long and expensive story...

Thank you so much for the reply.

I'm sad to say I am now back to only having two monitors and I'm still deciding if I can stand it but for some reason with three I was experiencing a lot of eyes strain and I felt sorry for a coworker who only had a laptop screen.

The way I had mine setup is left to right, a quad file browser window with an occasional chat box , my engineering apps, and email/web browsers and pallets from the engineering software. Also was using an quadro FX1800 and a generic radeon 5450.

What is Your Screen Resolution?
« Reply #276 on: Fri, 23 October 2015, 11:43:48 »
So I was wondering what people run out there?  What res?  How many?  How do you use them?

I run 2048x1536 on a single Lacie electron22blueIV crt or on my other system 1980x1080 on a 22" lcd and a dell 17" lcd running 1600x1200.

I use the 2048x1536 like two 1024x1536 screens so there's always two windows tiled vertically.  For the lcds, I still do the same on the 1980x1080 with the vertical windows, but then use the 17" for additional systems that I'm rdping into.

Your turn!

Home: 102.5 PPI. The same screen as my last post.
Work: only about 96 PPI on the big screens which I think is actually too little. ~150 PPI on the laptop.
My tablet: 283 PPI

I think that between 110 to 120 PPI or thereabouts would be ideal. Or double that with scaling.

Reading some of the responses from the first page was a bit of a throwback  :))

I'm not really sure what I'd define as "main computer" for me since I move between machines a lot...but my big rig at home is 2x 22" 1920x1080 and one 16" 1600x900

At home I'm using 2 30" ips monitors at 2560x1440... so ~97ppi.

At work I struggle using my work laptop's horrendous 1366x768 screen and try to quell my anger with a (most of the time) vertical orientation 22" ips at 1080x1920

A major problem is "color space"

we can still only replicate reliably 70% of the visible spectrum on these flat panels

to get more, we gotta go to Lasers, and they stop devleoping the laservue, because the n00bs all want "THIN" over performance..

Yes, it's always those damn 'form over function' people that ruin hardcore functionality for everything.  I hate to say it, but it's a feminine characteristic too.  No real man looks at a car/keyboard/monitor and squeals, 'it's so pretty!  I want one!'

I want a place where I can go where it's function over form, but in a good way.  That does exist.  Paris has a lot of that.  They have a bit of art in everything, but it's all 100% functional too.

29" @ 2560x1080. I am digging the ultra-wide aspect ratio.

Same here. I don't I can go back to 16:9.

3440x1440 is where it's at.

One of those ultra-wide screens? Heck yes. They are amazing. I stare at them in envy any time I am in a Microsoft store :))

I was looking at 3440x1440 monitors when I bought this and just couldn't bring myself to spend the extra money - first it's a monitor, then it's a better graphics card due to the higher resolution, then it's the cost of a casket when my wife kills me... it just didn't seem worth it. It must be super nice though; I'll get one eventually.

I'm still working with most things in a 'portrait' orientation vs widescreen.  What's your mix of portrait/widescreen (landscape)?

Whoa some of those names on the first few pages.

The original GH generation!

At home 1920x1200 and at work 1920x1080 + 1280x1024.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada
