I had to remove the 10 pieces limit from the order form (replacing the drop down with a standard input box).

The smartest of you might know what is going on...
I'm not one of the smartest but I think I know why. :P

I'm not smart...so I'm still puzzled.

Keep checking back, if what Matt3o is hinting at might happen, could be at the highest quantity/lowest price tier soon enough.

I'm probably going to remove the C64 key from 1.75 mods and maybe some other keys to try to lower that price.

I'm sure it will happen soon, but we really need at least 12 more people to pick up the Coffee TKL set. Drops the price by over $20.

Yes I hope that one gets there.  I've already called dibs on one.  It's definitely needed for boards with 1x mods since those don't come in plum.

... and there just may be a custom board soon that has that configuration...

I'd say the sweet spot would be 75, but 50 is good enough.

BREAKING NEWS!

Fasten your belts because this is going to blow your guts all over your keyboards.

Signature Plastics just contacted me and informed that they actually have 6.2 units and 7 units spacebars in DSA family (contrary to what they originally said)! Now I just have to understand what kind of mount points they have.

This is what they say about mount points:

Quote
The 6.2 unit spacebar has fixed spacing with a center mount and 2 outboard mounts positioned 1.976" from the center mount. The 7 unit spacebar also has fixed mount positions with a center mount and 2 outboard mounts positioned 2.245" from the center mount.

Not the most universal space bars ever, but still...

If I did the math well this is what we have in DSA:

6 units, 3 stems, 1 center 2 at 40mm from center
6.2 units, 3 stems, 1 center 2 at 50mm from center
7 units, 3 stems, 1 center 2 at 57mm from center

SO

The group buy is probably going to have:

DSA 6
DCS 6
DSA 6.2
DCS 6.2 Universal
DSA 7

oh gosh, what a mess...

The DCS space bar is not very well-liked.  Except for the universal 6.25 unit version, I don't see a reason to keep the other DCS, do you?

You've probably already considered this where we're close to the upper bound it sometimes makes sense to order the minimum quantity at the next tier and effectively 'dispose' of the extra sets as it's still cheaper for the people in that group.

e.g. ISO kit has 22 people currently at 18.98. That's $417.56 for those key sets.

If you were to order 25 sets at 12.86.. that would be $321.50. i.e. those 22 people could pay $14.61 with three sets left over.

You could actually build this logic into your tool.

current_order_value = order quantity * current tier price;
next_level_min_value = min qty for next tier * next tier price;
if (current_order_value > next_level_min_value) current price = next_level_min_value / order quantity;

yes, that is something I was considering but for the sake of simplicity I didn't implement it. Most of the kits won't have issues reaching a good tier and higher tiers price difference is low (so that logic would work only when orders are very close to the tier boundary). Anyway I'm going to check prices/tiers before placing the order.

It's really cool that the extras set includes replacement 2 and 3 for UK keyboards! :) Combined with the ISO enter I think the only missing key is the one next to the Z with backslash and vertical bar on it?

I think it's safe to say at this point that blank 1x plum (and probably lime) keys should be added. Already over 1000 1x blanks ordered.

I'm also pretty sure that I am on board for this group buy, but I'll hold off for a few days just to make sure that I can afford it.

blanks in other colors will be added all together, not one at the time. it would be a pain to manage otherwise.

anyone could change your order that way :) we would need username+password and that is a complexity I wanted to avoid. Maybe with the next GB :)

My first GB and I'm very excited! I don't know what other GBs are like, but this feels very professional and well thought-out. I bought a Cherry keyboard just to try these keys out. (Ok, fine, I was gonna buy a Cherry board, but this GB definitely accelerated the process!)

I love the color scheme, too. (crosses fingers, prays for white on blue)

How can I be sure that I'm getting the right size modifiers? I've ordered a Ducky with MX Greens, and I'm eyeing the keyboard layout and trying to figure out what size is correct. Guessing 1.5 modifiers? Can anyone else with a fullsize Ducky confirm for the newb?

Matt3o -- take a bow!

The ducky will have 1.25 mods and a 6.25 spacebar.

Thanks Halverson! Going to update my order. Someone should compile all the "What will my board require?" answers in this thread and put them on the top page for easy reference.

Thanks again for organizing this groupbuy Matt3o. It can't be easy fielding all these questions.

Okay I'm updating the order form, tomorrow (Wednesday) you'll find all the DSA space bars. I'll also update the OP with all the info you need to pick the right one.

You'll probably want to switch from DCS to DSA but remember the DSA 6.25 is not Universal (I'd take some of both families if I were you :P )

Sorry about this space bar mess, but SP gave me the wrong info.

I'm also still holding off because I would prefer blue keys.
But the more I look at the colors, the more I consider just buying both. Especially if we get lime 1 blanks!
Would love a brown-green Ergodox. :)
I have two Ergodoxes anyway, and the blank keys from Massdrop aren't so expensive and I could also just sell them.

The amazing thing is the breakdown.  The base set starts at less than $40 even at a hypothetical five orders.  Meanwhile, the 1.75x modifier set starts at over $200, for just twelve keys.  It's clear SP's system is optimized for the production of 1x keys.

Important Update about Spacebars!

Signature Plastics initially said that they couldn't provide DSA spacebars, but they contacted me back saying that they actually have them! This is a great news because we can have a 100% DSA keyboards (except for the ISO and left stem keys).

I've just updated the order form with the new space bars. I'm not going to automatically switch your DCS spacebars to DSA because the DCS ones might still be needed for certain keyboards.

This is how it works
  • 6 units DSA: 3 mount points. 1 centered, 2 at 40mm from center. This is a very peculiar spacebar, suitable for custom keyboards only.
  • 6.2 units DSA: 3 mount points. 1 centered, 2 at 50mm from center. This has the standard Filco and the like mounting position.
  • 7 units DSA: 3 mount points. 1 centered, 2 at 57mm from center. This is mainly for winkeyless.
  • 6 units DCS: 3 mount points. This should be the Cherry G80-xxxx spacebar, PLEASE CONFIRM.
  • 6.25 units Universal DCS: This is the universal Signature Plastics 6 mount points space bar. This should fit most of the keyboards out there
  • 7 units DCS: 3 mount points. 1 centered, 2 at 57mm from center. There's no reason to get this spacebar anymore being the 7u DSA a perfect alternative.

If you don't know which one to take, look at the back of your spacebar and measure the distance of the stems.

I would recommend taking a couple of spacebars in different families (it's 2 bucks at high tiers). This would save you unpleasant surprises! Anyway we will be taking some spares, just in case.

Head to the order form and update your order.

If you don't remember your order ID you can simply send a new order with the same username and the same forum. The previous order will be overwritten. If you really need to recover your previous order, send me a PM.
