PCB mount Ergo Dox. Pics later!

why pcb mount?

It used to be a friend's, which he assembled, and he decided he didn't like the acrylic cases so he was going to make his own wooden base/tray. I don't have that tray right now so I'm using it on two mousepads :) Kind of like its naked look because the PCB is really pretty!

I set the theme of the board so it looks clean. Now I just wait for Penumbra!!!

That does look pretty sweet but how sturdy is it like that? (Also those pics make me want an ergodox :P)

Also I'm still typing on my FC660M....most keyboards I try don't make it past the first day. :D

SpAmRaY, my only suggestion is a 'crib sheet'--only kidding. I'll stay with aref, I promise, brother.
I don't want to make it difficult for the good folks, like you, who've helped me and offered assistance.

Bring the keyboard outdoors, and take a pic under direct sunlight. Purple will definitely show  :)

Hmm interesting. I've always toyed with the idea of making a PCB and switch only ergodox, which got pretty much destroyed when I found out about acidfire's build and realized that after cables and teensy and whatnot, costs would pile up >:D

"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

How is it? :)

they feel totally different from what I expected, it's kinda hard to describe haha.
as of now, I'm just trying to get used to the layout;; the delete/BS button is throwing me off a bit, but I'm sure I'll grow used to it after using it for a few days. all I can say is that it feels amazing! maybe I'll try out the dental band mod sometime later if I have time.
oh yeah btw, do you guys know any programs that are good for remapping keys for OSX? similar to autohotkey?

Give yourself a few days, or a week if you can, using it to get used to the Topre switches, and to the layout.

Once you do, you'll find that backspace there just makes sense, and using any other keyboard you keep typing \\\ for backspace ;)

Nice. =) I recommend fiddling with the dip switches. I use mine like this: Swapped backspace adn delete so backspace is right above enter, Swapped meta and alt, swapped fn and alt, remapped arrows to WASD + fn (meta key). YMMV, though. And also, since I'm Norwegian and have the language set to Norwegian I swapped \ and ' so ' is directly above backspace.

haha that already happened to me when I briefly switched over to my 660M after typing on the HHKB for a few hours :))

yeah, I played around with dip switches, but was wondering if there was a third party program for mac that would let me remap additional keys in the Fn layer?

I was wondering too - and worse, I got my HHKB secondhand without a box!  I had to wait until someone posted a picture of the back of a box.

dat board, such simplicity yet everything is well in place.

The translucent brobot is well placed to stop number row that's really nice.

Also dat green ctrl must have come with the 4 other green keys lol but still well placed

Really nice over 10/10 would type on.

dat board, such simplicity yet everything is well in place.

The translucent brobot is well placed to stop number row that's really nice.

Thank you for the compliments and analysis!!! You literally understood every choice I made in how it's set up. The main theme was green, purple, and balance. It feels pretty damn good to know that someone else understands what I was thinking :) It's these kinds of moments that have me trying to get my themes right!

Thanks again for the kind words.

Here's two more pics of it that are at a better angle, if you're interested :)

haha yeah no worry man you're welcome. I really like the HHKB layout, it's really nice that they moved the CTRL and Backspace/delete on the board to go a little out of standard. I also like their FN Arrow location which is pretty nice compared to the WASD location on my Poker II.

Only thing i would change is having a red or orange WASD instead cause i wouldn't go Lavender imo, but that's subjective lol.

Also Brobots are always nice. Two is enough especially since the translucent one is an indicator.

The HHKB is actually a Unix-style layout like a Sun Type 5 keyboard.  It's not an easy layout to find these days, which is a little sad.

Began the day with an RF 87UB/55-gram;
switched to a Corsair K65/MX Red; then
returned to the 87UB to close out the radio-day: ... -.-

No, but it will mess with your mind :p
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada
