Wow...

Maybe it is because I have to turn my head sideways to look at the pic but that just hurts my brain. How do you like that layout so far?

750r with MX reds. The word "Tank" is appropriate. Makes my Filco feel and sound like a turd.

Here's a little typing test. Only retaught to touch type two months ago so not blazing speed

What about it specifically makes "feel and sound like a turd"?  I've only used Filcos since I got into mechanical keyboards a few years ago and always thought they were pretty sturdy.  Now your post makes me wonder what I'm missing out on.

I got the "e29 coincidence" keyboard back from Phosphorglow today, put the original keycaps back on it, and put the keycaps for the 1394204 back in place where they belong.  (There is a little story to this.)

Turns out the "e29 coincidence" had an LED cutout below the label!  It is kinda hard to see with the camera flash on....

So here it is with it off.

This keyboard actually feels wonderful.  It was pretty dreadful before.  I'm so glad Maxx fixed this!

The little story goes as follows:
My nephew had an incident with his keyboard and I let him use the 1394204 keyboard with his 1391401 controller in it's place, I put the APL keys on it because I didn't want him confused by the terminal caps.  So I sent the "e29 coincidence" keyboard with the 4204 keys on it.  The original keys for the "e29 coincidence" I put in the box for the APL set.
Everything falls back where it belongs now.

So my nephew has his 1391401 back with a new SDL controller in it.  The "e29 coincidence" keyboard has it's original keyset back on it, and a new SDL controller.  And finally, the 1394204 has it's original keys back on it too.

The APL keys are matched perfectly after ordering 3 "end" keys from Unicomp.  There was one that lined up so now that keyset is complete and not out of place.  I'm boxing it.  It may be used for something in the future.

I guess I will keep this on my desk for a while.  It's pretty cool with the LED thing.

KUL Cherry Red Tenkeyless with Blue O-rings. The Blue O-rings are really key for me, as I have RSI problems in my hands and fingers. They reduce impact of bottoming out a ton, and with the light press of the red, it's my favorite keyboard to date (for me).

I bought a cheapo QFR w/ MX Browns. Threw some GMK/OG Cherry Doublshots on it.

It's actually pretty nice to type on. A lot more solid of a board than I thought it was going to be.

IMHO, the only reason to knock CM QFRs is if you hate Cherry switches or want a keyboard for bragging rights.  QFRs were recommended to me as a great first mechanical keyboard/wonderful bang for the buck, and it was great advice.  We currently have two QFRs (hubby on MX blues and me with MX Browns and Stealth caps), and my only quibble with them is the keycaps are junk (even legends started wearing off within a few months) and I prefer backlit keyboards - and their backlit keyboard gets a lot of negative feedback for LEDs dying.

One big problem for them is that they use lower quality components and assembly methods, which makes them harder to work on.  It's hard to get a definitive source on this info, since it can be subjective, but this post might be helpful if you're curious for more info or why this would be important enough for me to mention.

I don't think the QFR is a bad board, I think it's great for the cost if you simply don't care about these points, but there is a good reason to knock them other than the reasons you mentioned.  ;)

Actually this is up for debate.

http://www.reddit.com/r/MechanicalKeyboards/comments/1psskg/leopold_vs_filco/cd5qds4

Your link doesn't mention the QFR once.  Can you explain what conclusions we can draw about QFR quality from this post?

The top one is a KUL ES87 with Linx3 thick PBTs.

The caps are really edgy and the caps lock is in the wrong profile, but it's doing alright for a few months now.

Okay, I feel decidedly retro...

I actually like it. But I'm also switching between blacks, browns, and clears (on the Cherry side) and Unicomp buckling springs (at  work).

I have Cherry blues and greens on order right now through Massdrop, but seriously, buckling springs have nothing to fear so far from Cherry. Man, do they feel nice.

/I am steadfastly staying away from Model F's, because I don't want to ruin all other keyboards for me.  :))
//It may be an unpopular opinion, but I really do like typing on the Typematrix.

The way the ergodox case is designed, you are able to open up the switches from the top, so if you buy clear switches you could swap springs and stems.

I had to open one of the switches on it before when I got some gunk in it and it wouldn't press proper.  Was a PITA.  I don't know if I'd have the patience to do all the switches!  (Though I will consider it for a rainy day...)

i feel like i  need a HHKB!

Everyone needs at least 1

I've steered away from the HHKB for one main reason: Mini-USB connector.

In order of (my) preference: 1) Hardwired 2) Wireless 3) Micro-USB not on back 4) Micro-USB on back.

Since it has none of those, not going there ... :D

[ ^^^ Maybe on HHKB 3? ]

SSK complaints left, right and centre :(

Using QFR with MX blacks at work, and QFS with MX greens at home.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

I'm still so mad at myself for not taking tinnie up on his offer when he first found them and was bragging on IRC.

Hope you fix your grounding issue, snoop-a-loop.
