I'm going back and forth between two Realforce 87U. I swapped the cases and now I can't even decide which colour scheme I like most. The light case / dark keys is 45g uniform, the light keys is 55g uniform.

What really makes me torn most is that the black keys actually sound and feel different than the light ones. I had expected to keep only the black case, 45g, with white/grey keys. Now I don't know what to do.

My silenced Novatouch with the Hack'd by geeks set. Damn this board became so nice with all the word I have done it. I love it. The sound is just a pure melody. I should do a recording for you guys so I can share my little music to all of you. :D

I'd like to hear some typing samples!

What switches are you using? You should post a photo of the machine.

I prefer the 2 tones color scheme. ;)

I'll see what I can do regarding the record sample. I don't have a really good microphone so I hope it will reproduce the sound as close to reality as possible.

Now using a freshly dome-swapped 55g HHKB Type-S and 55g 23UW.  Already had the HHKB but the 23UW is a new addition as well.

I really should bring one of my mechs to work.

I bring a Realforce 87U to the office on days that I have a lot of typing to do (I'm usually working out in the field).

It's definitely worth it over typing on a mediocre laptop keyboard for the day.

Got a novatouch about a week ago, and just spent ~5 hours silencing it via spicebar's method. Sounds great and no more annoying clack. Using orange/black tai haos that came with my purchase. Waiting on some dsa blanks to see if I like the profile before I make any major keycap purchases (granite vs imsto etc.)

Nothing particularly special, but I recently picked up my first mechanical keyboard in over 10 years, and my first with cherry switches: A CM Storm QFR with cherry blues.  I added some of the red o-ring dampeners since the bottom out sound was a little noisy for my liking.  This thing feels great to type on, I can hardly believe it took me this long to upgrade from my wireless Logitech that ive hated all these years (damn thing never broke).

royal kludge rc930, i never knew i would be a sucker for RGB with topre clones. but the scratchy and loose sound is kinda irritating. like once you notice it, you'd be like urgh... anyone here tried lubing these bad boy sbefore?? i theorize it won't change much of the sound as the switches themselves are made of quite thin plastic compare to topre switches

Right now I am typing on my IBM 1392934 SSK from Phosphorglow.  Very nice keyboard.  It has the new Colossus controller too!  It has a green underlay and green LED's.  I'm very jazzed about it!  Everything works perfectly!

I'm back to using my Novatouch since I just boxed my SSK up to send to Phosphorglow to have the rivets replaced with screws. I really liked the feedback of the buckling springs and it is kind of tough to go back to my novatouch or my other two keyboards which both have cherry mx browns.

I ordered Realforce 87U 55g from elitekeyboards and it is in the Fedex truck ready to be delivered on Monday.
I cannot wait to try out the Topre switch. I am so excited and I cannot wait for it!!!

I'm typing on a CM TKL with reds since my brand new Leopold 660c is at work where I do most of my typing. Isn't that a great incentive to go to work?  ;D

Anyway I'm not too fond of these red switches since I don't game anymore (used to play WoW). Will replace it with a WASD TKL with blues and a PBT Vortex side printed set I just ordered from Massdrop.

Yes.  I thought it would look odd, thinking that a black case would look better.  But this turned out quite well :)

I changed over to this one for the time being...

I think it deserves it!  After all it's been through.  It's also got a bit of character.

How many Model M's do you have?

Quite a few.  If you look at my signature, that says:

I have the ones I use in front of my computers I do use.  The others are boxed for now until I get the urge to use a different one for grins and giggles.  Every keyboard I have on hand is fully functional, and I can use them if I need to.

The only ones I don't have right now are being restored.  There are two.  A 1389162 and a 1391401.  Both are in the process of being restored by Maxx.

I am sending him my SSK on Monday, Can't wait to see how it turns out. I had to switch back to my Novatouch after I boxed it up to send and I miss the model M big time.

Yep!  Just don't get too crazy!  I went way too far with what I have.  They are all special to me.  The borderline insanity keeps me sane enough to improve on what I do have now.  I just share my little experience here.

Of course there are a much wider variety of keyboards out there.

MA42, the 40% form factor is taking some getting used to but I think I have the layout where I want it.
People in the 1980s, in general, were clearly just better than we are now in every measurable way.

The dumber the reason the more it must be done

The monitor bouncing up and down like that must get very distracting after a while!
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

I like a mix of efficiency and inefficiency :-* is there a larger cherry numpad?

But I've actually been thinking about making a 40% compatible numpad, probably 4x5.

I am wondering if JD has already created one that matches his JD40.  That would be pretty cool.
