I'm in the same predicament. I work from the command line in Ubuntu and although I've gotten rather proficient at using the top number keys and function arrow cluster , I'm afraid the HHKB looks a bit unprofessional in an academic setting. My efficiency is certainly not affected since I've used it for a while now. But, I do have the Realforce itch so I might pick up the 87UB really soon. Especially since I want to try the 55g.

As a matter of fact, that itch is pretty strong right about now.  :) :)

Congrats. What switch did you decide on? Nice that you  made the 60% jump already! Mine was a progression from full-sized -> TKL -> 60%

I recently rescued a near-mint condition eary/mid 90s PS/2 Tandy Enhanced Keyboard from Salvation Army for $1.50. I cleaned it up and it's currently my main kb on my gaming PC. The weird rubber dome/slider switch combo makes for an unusual sound and feel. I think I like it.  :thumb:

How does the extra key where the + normally is on the numpad work?  Do you have it just mapped to +?

Hey! That keyboard isn't too bad to be honest. This was also the keyboard I initially had at work and it has a nice distinct sound upon keypresses which is rather nice for a rubber dome board.

Ofcourse, its build quality is seriously lacking and can't really compare to even MX boards.

Currently on my HHKB with HyperSphere's rings. Awesome silencing result.

Back to typing on the Jane, I'm still really undecided on these browns. They're bearable enough to type on throughout the day but I don't see myself craving them either when I'm typing on another board. I do love the mx tactile grey I have for the spacebar though, give the perfect sound imo.

Haha I was thinking about it but that'd be a lot of work considering I have a ****ty solder sucker and not a desoldering station...yet. :p

Sadly, the plate doesn't support switch top removal either. I had so many problems to get this board working at first that I may just keep it unless I can get a spare PCB and plate from yuktsi. I have to say these are the best browns I've ever typed on. They're old browns harvested from a g80-11801 and I replaced the switch top with clear gateron ones for added light diffusion but it also made them slightly smoother as well.

Have you ever compared the tactile gray with clear switches? How do they feel in comparison?

Comparing it to the clears in my Pok3r next to me the tactile bump is basically the same. However the MX Tactile Grey feels a bit smoother but heavier. I wish I had a full board of greys to compare it to but from my understanding mx clears are just a more modern grey which can end up a little bit stiff and scratchy with their current molds.

Edit: I forgot to add that I also have a clear Gateron switch top for the MX Grey, that could account for the slightly smoother feeling of it.

No problem, I am actually really liking cherry switches with clear Gateron tops on them. They don't seem to have as much wobble to regular mx switches or zealios. That's just me feeling them and not any actual testing though.

The clears I am using now are translucent Gateron bottoms with transparent Gateron tops, clear Cherry stems and gold springs, the do not wobble and feel very smooth.

Still getting away with my SSK ;D
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Have been typing on my RF87UW 55g with a PBT spacebar since last Thursday. It's amazing. I also own a HHKB, dental band modded, but RF feels superior. Best feeling keyboard I've ever typed on in my life. Too bad I couldn't get my hands on the black one though, but they ran out of those at MD pretty fast.

I noticed that every stabilized key, aside from the spacebar, has some sort of rattle? Can I get rid of this by applying some lube to the stabilizer wires?

KUL ES-87 w/ Cherry MX Clears and SP Modern Selectric keycaps.

I've been using this setup for a couple months. Really enjoying it.

And a poor lonely M sits in the background...

But that is a great looking board.  :thumb: I really like the 'Home' and 'End' keys.

There's a difference between lonely and happily enjoying retirement.

Using my hhkb pro 2 again.  Forcing myself not to game for a while so went back to this lil thang.

I have a giant Corsair k95 rgb. I've only been here a week and I'm already wanting to build a 60% mx-clear board. Got to play with an HHKB pro2 tonight that was amazing. One day i'll have one or those too  :thumb:

I acctually decided and bought all the parts to do a 60% clear board a week after getting into mech keyboards, now im just waiting on the PCB :p . But i have yet to feel topre switches.

Custom 60% with Cherry MX Clear

Hi, this is my first post! I'm using my first and so far only keyboard, a Noppoo Nano 75-s with reds, because I love the look of the 75% and I didn't have a huge amount of money. The only thing annoying about having a 75 over a 60 percent board is the lack of case options :/

Anyway, here's a pic.
