Screwed up putting a Matias switch back together, going to have to wait for a few replacement switches.

Back to my Model M sans its Num5 spring!

Sorry to see that you have a defective space bar ;p
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

NeXT Non-ADB with Alps SKCM Cream (non damp). Not a lot of people out there using one of these right now as their daily :thumb:

That's a real beaute. How are you enjoying it?

I've always been fond of those keyboards. They seem to sound decent as well, though I don't know what the Cream switches feel like.

Sentraq S60-X w/ quasi-HHKB layout. 78g round 2 Zealios w/ red WASD o-rings. Going to switch the caps out with black Gateron blanks soon, and switch to split right shift and fn.

I love typing on this thing but the lack of elevated feet is starting to get to me. Anybody have good suggestions for feet?

I can't tell you that, sadly.  But I think it's doable, since pressing the keys does generate combination of binary states that can be detected with sufficient ingenuity.  The Soviets accomplished this in the '70s.

Welp, looks like the picture wanted to take up the whole screen for some reason, lol.

My Alps Orion 2:1 (it's got a v2 bottom and a v1 top), as I call it. Alps SKCM Blues ftw.  :thumb:

A video instead! This is when it still had the v2 top, but it's kind of useless with the Alps PCB. The pinholes for the LEDs aren't really utilized on that PCB and I like the cleaner and more squared look of the v1 top.

The v2 bottom is sick though. The size differences made lining up the v2 Alps plate perfectly center on the v1 top a little tricky though.

I was using my Packard Bell KCLEA907L with SKCL Browns since I found it, they're amazing and SKCL Browns are definitely my favorite linear switches!

But I'm back to using my Model M because the layout on that board is really irritating, plus I just straight up like tactile and clicky switches more.

Are you meaning the linear ones or the more commonly sought after tactiles? I don't often see anyone ask or even know about the linear browns. :b

either really, however i have heard mostly good about the SKCMs. really for me I am trying to expand my alps collection but i have always had my eye on greens, blues and browns. maybe the aesthetics?. i doubt i could ever afford any but i think tactile browns are my number 1 (maybe blues)

Not more sought out, but they're super rare and very obscure, more so than the SKCM Browns (which are also pretty uncommon)

SKCL Brown and SKCM Green are two of the rarest Alps switches.

A lot of people tend to confuse the SKCL/SKCM meanings, especially with SKCL Green and SKCM Brown.

SKCM Green and SKCL Brown are definitely the rarest switches in the Alps SKCL/SKCM family. I was surprised because no one really seems to care or know about SKCL Browns, despite the rarity.

if my memory serves correct, SKCL browns are linear and i do not like linear switches (even for gaming) so even though they might be rare, i would sooner have SKCMs if i was going to use it as a daily driver or backup. alps SKCM greens on the other hand - i would love a board with them in considering their tactility.

Yep, you're on the money there. SKCM denotes a clicky or tactile switch while SKCL always means linear.

Alps SKCM Greens are nice, particularly the less rare bamboo types, since, imo, the earlier pine variety isn't too different from SKCM Brown, where the bamboo have a unique feel that you can't quite compare to other switches. The pines are my personal favorite just out of rarity and their look though. The shade of green on them is really beautiful.

I'd recommend the SKCM (tactile, not damped) Cream switches from a NeXT Non-ADB keyboard if you want a really nice switch that's easier to find though.  :thumb:

Oh snap, yeah. I just noticed that you were in the UK. If you need someone to proxy you a board, I wouldn't mind helping, but I'd have to get another shipping scale since mine seems to have crapped out on me.

yeah, i was looking into the cream alps but can't seem to find anyone who has any (just like most alps types). hopefully if i unload my Model M and a couple other boards which i'm saving until i can post on classifieds, the voyage will begin!

Oh snap, yeah. I just noticed that you were in the UK. If you need someone to proxy you a board, I wouldn't mind helping, but I'd have to get another shipping scale since mine seems to have crapped out on me.

They seem to ship worldwide though, eh?

that would be awesome however i'm new to the whole proxy shipping thing xD   i'm assuming you are tricking the postage service to think you are in another country so that the shipping is less, right?

It's generally to help someone get an item that isn't available in their country (ie, the seller will not ship there), but sometimes it can shave off the shipping expense, especially if there are additional fees through some outlets for int. shipping.

It seems that they offer worldwide shipping though, so you should check out the rate and see how that is, because it probably won't be any cheaper if I'd ship it to you. :P As long as it's not eBay's global shipping service, you should be okay, since it comes with a ton of fees. If the seller is willing to sort the international shipping himself, which isn't hard, then it's much cheaper. I don't know how the customs fees work in the UK though.

oh, fair enough. it's currently £34 shipping so about $47 which is a lot.

That does seem a little high, but it will at least be $20-30, I'd say. I'm not exactly sure how much at the moment. That plus shipping to me from the seller would probably only save you a little.

This is kinda the same reason why buying from TaoBao sucks, haha. It's not cheaper, just convenient-ish.

Trying to find the perfect switch....like that will ever happen. Got a Code 87 MX Clear in the mail this morning and am liking it quite a bit. Might be the best feeling MX I have felt to date.
Realforce 87U/55g, Deck Hassium Pro-MX Browns, MK Disco TKL - KBT Browns, Code 87-MX Clears, KUL-87 MX Reds.

Corsair K70 Rapidfire with Cherry Speed Switches.
Never heard of Cherry Speed switches.
Are they tactile? Linear?
Recommend them?

They're essentially MX Reds but the actuation point is higher up so they feel a bit more responsive.

I agree that one can get used to slight variations in layout if spread out over time. Minor layout differences aren't really worth *****ing about.

However, any and all condemnation of buckling spring switches is quite on point, in my view. They are noisy and uncomfortable, and the basis of the ugliest keyboards to ever become a de facto standard. From hell's heart I stab at thee, IBM...

I'm still using the same keyboard.  Are you?
