Using my 22 year old Model M 1392595. I guess it's all good.

I guess so, considering it's probably spotlessly restored, and with a cool color background under the keys (maybe even illuminated!).

I'm visiting my wife's family in Ontario, Canada. (For the benefit of Americans, that's not a town, but a province, sort of like a state.) So, ironically, despite my passion for MKs, I'm typing this on a previously-unused Dell KB1421, one of the better RDs that's also one of the most compact full-size KBs ever made, travel-wise.

It makes a sound I'd describe as egg, egg, egg. But maybe that's just because I'm having eggnog. Good eggnog will do that to you.

Finally have this 'ol girl up and running again.
Got Soarer's WysEverter onto an Arduino Leonardo and worked out the config to move some of the keys around.
She feels wonderful to type on, as good as my Model M in a different way of course.

Interesting layout. I wonder why they moved the <> keys to the left and duplicate the ,. on their ANSI layout positions.

I have no real idea, but as Wyse terminals emulate DEC and it is the same layout (eg LK201 ref1, ref2), all I can think of is it is related to OpenVMS.

The second reference is a particularly nice keyboard.

I'm using Gateron reds on a varmilo 87mr with their dye sub keycaps, which have a profile slightly lower than Cherry profile.

Gateron has the best stabilizers ever and they feel amazing, imo. I've tried costar on my Filco, Cherry on my older Poker3, and have to say, the Gateron stabs are the best. I'm not sure if it's the extra smoothness of the plastic or what, but it makes it feel like it's just a switch being actuated and like there is no stabilizer even there. They do have a tiny bit of rattle, but it could probably be fixed with some lube. Not sure if I want to lube them though, as I lubed my Costar stabs when I first got my Filco, and it's a disaster when it's time to clean.  The lube just grabs all the dust and the lube gets spread all over the backplate. It's a nightmare.

Thinking of grabbing a MX silent board.
filco ninja mj2 tkl · mx brown · black case · blank black pbt
varmilo va87mr tkl · gateron red · black case · dye sub pbt ❤
vortex pok3r rgb · mx silent · white case · blank xda pbt

40% might be a challenge, but using a TKL doesn't slow me down.  using a numpad is slow

I like the minimalist aesthetics of 40% boards but uncertain if I could ascend.  Instead of using specific keys to alternate between layers I always thought it would be cool to connect piano pedals to the board to do this.  I don't know if anyone has tried it but to me this seems logical and especially as a fan of automotive manual transmissions more involving.

Thats an interesting concept. So basically plugging in a second keyboard controller that you could define as the function keys - I wonder if anyone thats into driving sims and has pedals already under their desk could set a locking function layer to "enable" them as function keys when not gaming.

On a practical note, I really do believe you can be a 40% user once you get the layers setup and memorized... I will also say that unless you fully commit to using a 40% across the board, your chances of really adapting it are slim. Its a cool board, though i fear its destined to become a (where the f**k is my tilde?) ~$230 desk ornament.

Recently I got an ergonomics keycoard from a friend, it s called X-bows, a new brand.
I have to say it s amazing after a week when I get used to it. I dont need to squeeze my fingers and hand position
on standard keyboard, my hand and fingers put on the natural position which it where it suppose to be.

Laminating Cherry Wood (10mil) on to Acrylic. Then laser cutting it on a 30W laser. After that, staining and laquer. Since I was using costar stabilizers, I had to reinforce at the bottom of the plate with some epoxy on the bottom so it would not crack (likely not an issue if I had used Cherry Plate Mount - which my plate design supports). Also, put some Sugru in some places between the plate and PCB to silence the keyboard more.

Do you cut that plate yourself?

Yes, yes I did. On one of the laser cutters at the Dallas Makerspace. It's basically just a HHKB'd version of the Infinity 60% plate design. I just made an SVG version for laser cutting, kept the same features such as Cherry/Alps compatibility and Costar or Cherry Plate Mount for stabilizers. Just based my SVG model off of their STEP model.

About a week ago I finished building yet another Satan GH60: Gateron reds (black on stabilized keys), Zealio stabilizers, steel plate from mekanisk.co, black Pok3r case, Pexon cable. In the background you can see my RAMA M4-A which has Gateron blacks and Cozmosis Red Splatter caps. I haven't used linear switches before, but I really like the feel of linear with metal plates/cases.
