So what is everyone picking up in the steam sale? I have Ori, Goatpunks, Transistor, Oxenfree and Another World in my cart right now, already bought my girlfriend Shadows of Mordor.

Not sure what I'm getting yet. I will probably not get anything that's not on my wishlist.
Just waiting for emails that they're on sale. :P

Keep debating on Nier but the reviews indicate lousy optimization and no updates for over three months now from the developer..how has it been for you thus far?

I just picked it up the other day. Seems to be frame locked at 60fps even with vsync disabled. It stays pegged at 60fps for me at 1440p and everything maxed (no AA) on a 980 Ti.

I generally hate all keycaps. Keycaps are for poofs. Real men touchtype on stems. Non-functional artisans are awesome, I use them for the ESC key ... escape is for cowards anyways, real men go frontal assault.

Since the English version has dropped, I am getting sucked back into F/GO again. Glad to be able to read it this time, even though the localization has been shoddy so far. Plus, I think I'll be in this longer than I was in the JP version.

Ha ha! I just started a few weeks ago, so I'm not very good. I've had it since release but never even opened it. I was getting bored on my commutes to/from work from just browsing my phone, so I figured I'd play this. Great for train rides!

I know I'm a little late in the game but I happened upon it during the Steam Summer Sale this year. I've already clocked 8 hours over the last 2 days.  :thumb:

I think this'll end up a likely black Friday purchase for me. I can't really justify a console for one game but so many rave reviews!

Definitely worth it, plus there are loads of other good games coming out. And as someone with not much time for games at home, the switch has been great for me.

Same for me.. highly considering it for black Friday. Either that or a new gpu. But I've also considered ps4 for Monster Hunter World hmm.

Currently playing Ever Oasis on my 3ds. It's a very cute game!

Been playing it for the Wii U. I seriously can't get enough of it. It's become a daily thing that I remind myself that at some point I'll be done with the game. It makes me sad, but there are a bunch of games I've put on the back burner because of it this.

After 110+ hours, it's hotly contending for my favorite game of all time.

Yeah I agree. I've been playing for hours and "completed" it but there's so much still to do. The new thing that maps your last 200 hours was a real eye opener as to how much I still haven't done.

I feel like it would take ages, but you wouldn't get bored.

A lot of games seem to forget that the actual amount of fun you have playing the game is more important than collecting 500 feathers. BOTW just happened to get the best if both.

I have tried ff14, but don't really like it
And there seems not a single interesting looking mmorpg coming out in the next 10 years...except ashes of creation. I hope is not going to fail like no man sky

I've been playing Black Desert Online for a few months and I'm enjoying it. I really like the sandbox elements. In a way, it kind of reminds me of a Rune Factory game.

Lag has been terrible ever since the game showed up on Steam. I don't think the devs anticipated the demand they would receive from the Steam launch.

Currently playing with varying intensity:

- Factorio
- Subnautica
- Quake 2

I'm more of a single player guy right now. In the past, I played multiplayer games more. Maybe with UT4 I'll jump back in.

I'd like to play through Quake 2 again. It's has that sweetspot of fairly straightforward level design without being a corridor shooter.

I've been playing through Black Mesa and just bought BeamNG.drive which is lots of fun and I've barely scratched the surface.

I also dug out Midtown Madness off an old external hard drive and have been multiplayer-LAN-game testing it to see if I can make something work via Hamachi for some friends to get together for some old game time (the answer looks to be 'yes').

I'm not having nearly as much luck with Midtown Madness 2, ironically. It absolutely won't get along with the graphics drivers for either my Intel HD3000 or Quadro 2000M.

Oh man! My workmates and I used to play Midtown Madness after-hours when it first came out. I ran across the disc just the other day while cleaning. Cops n Robbers on the San Francisco map was the best!

I'm not sure if I still have a rig that could run it....

I've tested MM1 (not MM2 yet, that's the next project**) with a handful of machines (as indicated by how I got so many multiplayer cars in one screenshot all by myself lol). Results are as follows:

ThinkPad T21, Pentium 3 900MHz, 512MB RAM, S3 SavageIX video, WinXP
Native res - yes 1024x768
Glitches/artifacts - no
Plays smoothly - a little sluggish

Toughbook CF-51 and Dell Inspiron 630m (equipped identically), Pentium M 2.1GHz, 2GB RAM, Intel 915 video, Win7
Native res - no, max 640x480
Glitches/artifacts - no
Plays smoothly - yes

Toughbook CF-52, Core 2 Duo 1.8GHz, 4GB RAM, Intel 965 video, Win7
Native res - yes 1280x800
Glitches/artifacts - yes
Plays smoothly - yes

Acer Aspire 5000, Turion 1.6GHz, 2GB RAM, SiS M760GX video, WinXP
Native res - yes 1280x800
Glitches/artifacts - no
Plays smoothly - better than the T21 but sometimes laggy

ThinkPad W520, i7-2760QM, 16GB RAM, Intel HD3000/Nvidia Quadro 2000M, Win7
Using Intel GPU, glitches/artifacts severely
Using Nvidia GPU,
Native res - no, max 1280x1024
Glitches/artifacts - no
Plays smoothly - yes

W520 with Win10 behaves similarly except for massive framerate reductions. I had to install DirectPlay under legacy in Add/Remove Windows features...it will run but it tops out at like 3FPS. Not even exaggerating. It's really strange.

**edit
MM2 is not liking these drivers I guess:

I've been replaying Symphony Of The Night for PS1 again. Last time I played the game it was a digital release, and I have to say that playing directly off the disc the response times seem quicker. I think they slightly ****ed up the input response time in the digital translation to create a fraction of a second of lag during input.

At any rate, the game totally holds up. It's much shorter than I remember (especially since the second half of the game is just the first half upside-down) and only gets me wondering what more they could have done with a 2D Castlevania had it been on a DVD or BR disc. The 2D effects are top-****ing-notch and I would argue that SotN has perhaps the best sprite-work on the PS1. Fun little fact - I ran the disc on the PS3 and on a PS1 and playing on the PS1 actually made some of the effects look better(transparency effect, for example,) which really goes to show how specifically tailored to the system this game was.
There is a fair amount of backtracking, which is a valid criticism people have of this game, but where to go next is never convoluted and the music and enemy placement make backtracking withstandable, and even sometimes pleasurable.
There are two or three sections of the game which are designed in cheap ways so as to **** the player over forcing them to retrace a fair amount, and yeah they pissed me off, but they are few and far between and eventually you get powerful enough to bypass most of these situations.

All in all, Symphony Of The Night is a testament of what Konami used to represent and is a worthwhile investment of time. Now I just wish they would release a collection of all the GBA and DS Castlevania games.

Been playing Metro 2033 Redux....I like the game thus far but I think it's slightly over rated.

It's a bit more Linear than I had imagined and the lack of filters for people who love to explore is annoying.

The visuals are quite nice turned up though and the atmosphere is incredible.

Still I expected slightly more,  Hoping the world is much larger in Last Light or the third upcoming installment.

This is the only Castlevania title I own physically, but man do I want to play. Been wanting to play it once I can haul my 32" Trinitron up the stairs, but don't think that's going to be likely.
Never played it, so I think I may just hook up my PS1 to my Samsung flat screen and suffer the lag.

I've tested MM1 (not MM2 yet, that's the next project**) with a handful of machines (as indicated by how I got so many multiplayer cars in one screenshot all by myself lol). Results are as follows:

ThinkPad T21, Pentium 3 900MHz, 512MB RAM, S3 SavageIX video, WinXP
Native res - yes 1024x768
Glitches/artifacts - no
Plays smoothly - a little sluggish

Toughbook CF-51 and Dell Inspiron 630m (equipped identically), Pentium M 2.1GHz, 2GB RAM, Intel 915 video, Win7
Native res - no, max 640x480
Glitches/artifacts - no
Plays smoothly - yes

Toughbook CF-52, Core 2 Duo 1.8GHz, 4GB RAM, Intel 965 video, Win7
Native res - yes 1280x800
Glitches/artifacts - yes
Plays smoothly - yes

Acer Aspire 5000, Turion 1.6GHz, 2GB RAM, SiS M760GX video, WinXP
Native res - yes 1280x800
Glitches/artifacts - no
Plays smoothly - better than the T21 but sometimes laggy

ThinkPad W520, i7-2760QM, 16GB RAM, Intel HD3000/Nvidia Quadro 2000M, Win7
Using Intel GPU, glitches/artifacts severely
Using Nvidia GPU,
Native res - no, max 1280x1024
Glitches/artifacts - no
Plays smoothly - yes

W520 with Win10 behaves similarly except for massive framerate reductions. I had to install DirectPlay under legacy in Add/Remove Windows features...it will run but it tops out at like 3FPS. Not even exaggerating. It's really strange.

**edit
MM2 is not liking these drivers I guess:

Woah, that's quite a classic fleet you have there. That test video brings back some good memories! "More tea, vicar?"

That whole gaming era of the mid-late '90s/very early 2000s, when 3D engines were coming into their own, might be my favorite time for gaming. Mostly because I had a LOT of fun with the new (at the time) online capabilities of playing with friends and not having to be in the same room. Games like Ultima Online, Starcraft, Midtown Madness, Unreal Tournament, Age of Empires, etc....

good times, good times.

Yeah, I've got too much old tech...this is an ongoing problem, and the post you quoted is nothing compared to some of the insanity.

W520 is my daily driver so-to-speak. Toughbook CF-52 is my auto repair software laptop. CF-51 was supposed to be flipped but the interested party backed down. Dell 630m I've had for ages, was bought in 2010 to be a family member's first computer but that got sidelined so it sat on a shelf for years. The Acer was picked up for ~$1 for the hard drive and RAM within, but it ended up being a working laptop so I may try to sell it.

The ThinkPad T21 was given to me by a friend, the backlight wouldn't turn on. Fixed it and now have a neat retro ThinkPad, and since it's a P3 it's somewhat usable which is a bonus.

Completely agree about the games of that time period. The burst of new technology that came out of that window in history is really significant. The prevalence of 3D acceleration being included out of the box for a new machine or video card was (this pun wasn't intentional) a game changer.

I posted some musings/ramblings specific to MM1/MM2 here.

That being said, I dug out my steering wheel and have been spending some quality time with BeamNG.drive and it's incredible. To run smoothly I had to drop the quality settings but the experience isn't hurt any meaningful amount by having done that.

I'm playing the same thing. It's a fun game. I really like how you're not entirely pigeon holed into doing anything. I'm a bit, just a bit, Type-A when I play games like this though so I find myself mapping out growth times versus cost/profit and such to maximize gains. So, I've got a large strawberry farm right now since it's Year 3 Spring.

Haha, I do kinda the same, had to work out cost / revenue / growth time etc. There's a really good Wiki for the game and the subreddit is pretty good too, I try not to rely on it too much for quests and discovery, but for planning out long term investments and what to buy, sell and save for etc it's useful.

I do similar with games like Skyrim, where you have an axe worth 30 gold that weighs 22.. My friends would loot items like that and I'd go mad about the 'gold-weight ratio' - it's all about those 8-1 gauntlets!  :))
