Get the caps that all of GeekHack is raving about!
I got mine yesterday. Quick turn around and they appear to be in good shape after a quick clean. Pretty awesome deal.
If you're on the fence about these, get them. My set has no shine and cleaned up nicely. Really happy with my caps :D.
This buy is for used WoB Cherry G81s from stores (walmart, best buy, so realize these will have shine). If you are interested, post in this thread to keep it bumped and PM me and include your name so I can keep things in order. Seller is also willing to sell the entire keyboard for $10 + shipping. I'll end the GB when they are all out, which shouldn't be anytime soon. Pricing is below

Shine is actually pretty desirable. Sometimes you just need that extra little bit of bling.

Love how you're threadcrapping this when you sent ****ty shiny caps on to most people and charged, what, almost $40 per set, pulling in a nice profit along the way while calling them "like new". hwood is doing the honest thing and saying, yeah, they may be shiny, but the price is right.

I'd also like to discover what sort of amazing typing style they use that can manage to get a click out of MY switches, Chicony rubber dones, and most likely, Atari 400 membrane boards.
On topic-- I wonder if there's any sort of technique that could be used to "uniformize" old caps-- either accelerated wear to get them all shiny (potentially very nice on SA or DSA style caps), or re-pebbling them. If I had access to a sandblaster, I'd love to try it on a cap or two.

Just be aware that the entire bottom row has stem placements that are incompatible with modern keyboards. But it's still a great price for some worn doubleshots. :)

He was told by the seller that the condition was very good. He had nothing else to go by. So, I don't think you can blame him entirely for that one.

100% honest I saw that coming with Pac's buy and tried to warn some of my friends interested
I got some WoB caps early into my time on geekhack from the free thread and they are beyond shiny, and honestly I think and consider most WoB sets (unless NIB/mint) to be worthless
Especially ANY coming from ebay/craigslist, where the seller has like 15+ boards and tries to sell them all, it's going to be a grab bag, but with all the caps in abysmal condition

There was a sand blasting technique posted back before the FAQ and Wiki section disappeared in... 2012 was it? I have no idea if it's been reposted or not. The guy had good results though.
Personally, I'm going to try buffing a set to a glossy shine. The set I have now has some very glossy keys in it, and it's surprisingly enjoyable.

Did they ship it to you in a padded envelope? Those tend to not cost very much even shipped international. Since these sets are pretty large, he has to ship them in a small priority box, which can be upwards of $20 depending where you are.

So, for those of us who want to use these... what's the best bet on filling out that bottom row?I have some dyesub sets that I can mix and match with, but I think my fingers would revolt mixing PBT and ABS.

Get a hold of a GMK spacebars from the previous buy. If you can, get some of the CMYK or Purple mods too. If not, go to EK and buy some of their modifiers there. You might have to double up on CTRL or ALT though because there's no windows caps at all.

You could also try cutting the stems off of the misaligned caps and gluing them back in the correct location. If you can't use the caps for anything anyway, then there's nothing to loose. :)

No. The bottom row has off centered stems on the modifiers. Everything should fit fine though.
