Title: Reddit permanent ban
Post by: Exquite on Wed, 24 April 2024, 22:27:44
Hi everyone, It was a frustrating day when my Reddit account got permanently banned for spamming PM. I only used it for PMing sellers in the Reddit merch market community. Sellers post what they have and it is the rule that I have to use PM to PM them first to ask for those items. I don't use it for any outside purpose. I don't post comments on communities besides merch market, which is just two letters "PM". I only PM about 2-3 users every two days, sometimes 0 in a week. Reddit wrongly pointed out that the most recent PM messages on my account were since March. But I was having trades with a seller through PM just a few days ago. Now I cannot reply to that user while waiting for the shipping, leaving them confused, but also my money was gone through Paypal G&S before. I have filed an appeal but there is no response. Does someone know how to contact the mods?
Thanks for reading!

Mods are super aggressive and petty on Reddit, and I think there is an unspoken policy to never reverse any perma ban no matter the situation because it makes them look wrong. If it is a permanent account suspension your chances are less than 0%. If it is just a sub ban you can try messaging the mods of that sub or submitting an appeal, but it is likely they will see this as an aggression and mute you from being able to contact them again without any further explanation or discourse.

I'd say you've been blessed. Forget Reddit and move on, it is a cesspool full of corrupt mods that have no leashes or consequences. Reddit mods answer to no one, and do not care about the damage they cause to people's lives.

Interesting to hear. I have been to Reddit a few times over the years, but it always seemed to be inscrutable and opaque.
Having never been able to extract anything useful there, I stopped trying.

Reddit isn't so bad if you are looking for general questions, but reddit as a platform sucks for this if you get what I'm mean. The answers are there, you just have to find them with a search engine, so like you write your question into google and then put reddit at the end and it should answer your question. I basically do this more than actual google searches cause google by itself doesn't give that good answers.

Very few subreddits are good at all, and the good ones are all kinda niche, once a subreddit gets big it gets so disconnected from actual discussion a lot of the times it's not worth checking out anymore.

I create another account and they perma ban that one right away.

It's a real shame because the Mech Market is much stronger on Reddit than it is here. I saw a set of Signature Plastic SA Photo Studio for sale for dang near MSRP that I almost scooped up, but realized I didn't need another set of SA Caps.

Yes exactly. The merch market on reddit seems to have more tradings than any market on other platform like Discord.

On what basis? Are they looking at your IP or are you REALLY spammy? I agree with others that the Reddit mods aren't great, but I'm guessing your behavior must have been outside the realm of "normal use".

As stated, I’m only using reddit for just merch market and I even don’t comment on any other keebs related post. The seller post their product on the community so I have to be the first to contact them as it is the rule. And there is no other way than PM. They Pm back so I use PM to talk with them. Only about 1-3 sellers per week or maybe none in some week. I thought that is normal use. After my account was banned, I created another one which got banned without having a chance to use it. I have not even post a comment or Pm anyone with that new account.

I understand how mechmarket works; I've bought/sold plenty there. I'm just curious what behavior they flagged and why/how they've insta-banned you. Only about 1-3 sellers per week feels very reasonable and normal and I don't think mods can correlate account IPs / device MAC addresses. I don't think they'd randomly single folks out and ban them without reason either.

That leaves me wondering "what are they seeing that they don't like". Maybe they think you're a bot because of the new account? It's possible they have automation that you're getting caught up in; that's doubly more possible if you never got a warning message etc. You could try seeding a new account with "normal" reddit activity before PMing sellers. Or reach out to the mods and explain your situation.

At the very least they should explain _why_ they banned you, even if they don't overturn it.

Yes even I cannot understand what is going on. Maybe they thought I have been using Pm a lot as I used it to communicate with the sellers. Even the PM that they pointed out as spam was the one seller replied back to me.
And for the new account one, I found a reddit post that said they will track down the IP address or gmail associated with the previous account to ban the new ones.
I have filed appeal a week ago but I think there is no chance they will reply back.
