Title: Geekhack Post-Rock/Ambient Thread
Post by: ArchDill on Sun, 09 December 2018, 18:08:04
One of my other passions in life is Post-Rock and Ambient music. I have met a few people in the community that also share this passion. I thought this would be a good place for us to talk about it!

Who are some of your favorite artists?

Here are my ongoing Spotify Playlists:

Who are some of your favorite artists?

In post-rock, definitely too many, including the standards:

However, although I saw them live last June, I mostly prefer the uncommon ones, because some day you just know everything that sounds like Mogwai...  :)

Sigur Rós:

Jambinai:

Godspeed You! Black Emperor (and their side project A Silver Mt. Zion):

Meniscus:

Assuming they count as "proto post-rock" as well, Talk Talk:

Some of my other "post-rock" favorites (like boris and Plurals) are probably rather "doom metal" bands, so I won't list them here - I try to make a difference between those, at least. :)

Do the early Silent Hill soundtracks count as Ambient? I know some are industrial, which is kind of off-topic for this thread.

Nice! I had not heard of some of these. I love Sigur Ros and GSY!BE.

Have you listened to Jonsi and Alex? (Jonsi from Sigur Ros and his Boyfriend Alex Sommers).

Their album Riceboy Sleeps is a constant rotation for me.

One of my hometown favorites: The Mercury Program. Never had the chance to see them live (thankfully people upload recordings when possible).
