Hey everyone. This holiday rush ain’t no joke. We hope everyone is enjoying it.

Countdown to >Terminal_ has arrived. We’ve discussed the plan in depth with GMK, ran on the hamster wheels, constructed additional pylons, and are proud to announce that TKC’s first keycap set will be launching 1/7/17.

In case some need to get up to speed, >Terminal_ was conceived in-house to be a classy, simple colorway, influenced by the *Green Screen* monochrome monitors from our past, with accenting familiar to many, especially those keyboard warriors who code. Even if you don’t code, the novelties were designed to complement the universal tech-inspired theme.

SAMPLE LAYOUT RENDERS
Sample Layout Renders  (http://imgur.com/a/bP4ge)

Kit Mockups (http://imgur.com/a/7meuB)

The 167 piece **>Terminal_ Base Kit** supports the following layouts with 100% proper profiles:

* ANSI
* US-ISO
* Winkeyless
* 1800
* 65%/75%/96-key
* FC660
* Minivan
* JD40/45
* Planck/Preonic
* Minorca
* HHKB

The beauty of supporting this many layouts without a thousand caps was, as Bob Ross would say, a happy accident. Listening to the countless valuable feedback from the community to support *this* layout or *that* layout lead us to discover that there’s a lot of keycap sharing possible between the numerous custom layouts that people prefer. We believe that by choosing wisely and doing our best not to balloon the keycap count too much, we reached a happy place. The Base Kit also features a total of 9 custom legends: 1u prompts for alternate Escape, 1.25u OS-agnostic prompts, 1.25u and 1u hashbangs, VIM arrows, and Minivan arrows. All legends will be sweet GMK doubleshot - no pad printing to be found here.

In addition to the Base Kit, we’re pleased to offer a solution for the many (MANY) requests for an Ergodox kit, the **N9 Ergodox Modifiers**. As a special treat, with the blessing of Joseph (jchan94 of Keyclack) and Sheraton (waikane of Originative), the N9 ‘Dox kit will also include accent keycaps for their respective popular GMK sets in addition to Terminal. As many of you know, GMK sets tend to have a little harder time hitting MOQ when kitted out too much, and banding together we feel the community can make this happen, whether you’re interested in Terminal or excited that you’d finally be able to deck out your Ergodox with the legendary GMK Sky Dolch or soon to be legendary GMK Hydro.

Speaking of MOQs, we want to let the international peeps know that we spent a lot of sleepless nights figuring out how to make a Terminal international kit attractive and viable enough to tip. We don’t need to mince words - international kits are always tough to tip MOQ. With gracious gifts of his time and wisdom, LeandreN advised us on referencing an “Essentials” kit designed by Wodan from Geekhack, so we did. This aided in keeping the **International Essentials Kit** relatively affordable, with a minimum amount of keys that gives most people what they want to see without being too cost-prohibitive going full conventional “International”. It’s still going to be tough to hit MOQ, but we hope this takes things a step closer to realizing the dream. With UK-ISO featured in the kit, we really hope that that large userbase steps up for the team.

There’s a spacebar kit added because, well, you have to have a cool spacebar kit.

**OK. So what’s the plan?**
>Group buy 1/7/17, 30 days. Hopefully this gives people enough time to recover from holiday spending. Upon close of the GB on 2/7/17, payment will be submitted to GMK immediately. Lead time quoted is 12 weeks. Upon delivery, orders will be immediately sorted, boxed, and shipped from TKC’s warehouse in Michigan. All keycap kits large and small will be shipped from GMK and to you in GMK trays. Yes, even if you only order the N9 Ergodox Modifier Kit. If you are in Asia, we are working diligently with a reputable vendor who has successfully handled previous GBs. Stay tuned.

**Sounds good. What’s this going to cost me?**
>If the exchange rate between the Euro and USD remains decently stable, the following are the projected prices: Base $159, N9 Ergodox Modifiers $45, International Essentials $30, Spacebars $10. We are basing pricing off the max MOQ tier for convenience and cost savings. **Even if the max MOQ tier is not tipped**, we will keep the cost as quoted. For the unprecedented support of many layouts and the total custom legends offered, we hope the pricing feels fair to everyone.

Big thanks to LeandreN, evangs, thesiscamper, alex_at_panc, waikane, jchan94, and the entire MK community for more than you all know.

**TL;DR** >Terminal_ incoming. Have a great holiday.

It's not TKC's intention to inundate the sub with IC's so close to one another, but our most recent update raised some eyebrows regarding lacking Ergodox compatibility for the upcoming group buy. Well, *we* raised our eyebrows and came up with this:

[attachimg=7]

We'll figure out a catchier name.
A nice bonus if >Terminal_ is not for you, with **N9** being such a neutral and popular base color, the 'Dox crew can also look forward to color compatibility with:

It's our hope that there's enough Ergodox users with these various amazing community member's keysets, whether already in their collection or on the radar, this add-on kit will tip MOQ. We kept it blank and simple for affordability and compatibility. We are awaiting GMK's quote before further updates.

What do you good folks think? Sound off here:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hello everyone. Thanks for dropping by again!

>Terminal_ is just about ready to go! We've forwarded final mockups and are waiting for quotes from GMK this week, and from there it's full steam ahead. We want to first take this opportunity and say thank you to everyone for the great feedback, small and large. It really helped mold >Terminal_ v0.1a (ha!) into what we feel is an even greater set. We hope you understand that while we were not able to accommodate everyone's requests, we feel we found the happy medium that would please most of you. The profile compatibility we were able to achieve for many popular layouts from just a few additional caps were amazing, and we have no one to thank but you all, the community. These are just a few layouts possible with full-profile coverage, as FC660 (yay!) and Plancks are not pictured but absolutely covered.

Yes, the font will be GMK's house font. =) Changes from the initial interest check:

We know, it's a large-ish base set. We hope coming together and supporting each other's layout choices as one will help meet MOQ. We'll say it now - sorry Ergodox folk. We'll do our absolute best to line something up in the future if and when >Terminal_ is re-released. To make sure that we find a price point that is fair and satisfactory, we may have to modify custom legends instead of sacrificing layout compatibility. VIM and Minivan arrows are being explored with GMK to see if front-printing versus shooting will make a marked costs savings. We will have final results in the GB announcement. Group Buy PSA
Thanks so much everyone. We hope we didn't disappoint too many people and look forward to everyone's thoughts!

Love the color way. Question, will there be a R2 - sign for numpad? I see an R3 + sign and a single 0 so maybe :)

Edit- is that a small - next to delete? Hard to tell

Ah. A TX 1800 owner?  ;D

This is the roughest of the rough mockups we have right now. Renders will be presented if there's a positive response to the set (like yours! thanks!) that will be much clearer and more to scale, with GMK's actual font.

To answer your question, yes. Thanks!

Similar Concept to SA Green Screen: https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=75607.0

Is the N9 color purple? On KLE it comes out as gray. Also I would vote to offer it all as one set instead of breaking it into  child kits.

N9 is not purple. It's dark grey (it's the base colour of Skidata and modifiers colour of Dolch)

SysAdmin here.... very interested! I like this a little better than the Green Screen set (which is still awesome)
I would like to see the set in a dolch style color scheme with slightly lighter alphas, and the option or inclusion of GMK symbol modifiers. Buuut that might be asking for a little much and neither of those would keep me from buying this set. Great work.

IJKL is what I use daily and seems a lot more practicle to me.

Otherwise no. Midnight was also DCS and this is clearly GMK. The differences are enough to distinguish them.

Full disclosure: I own Midnight.  ;)

N9 is the darkest grey, just a tad lighter than CE (black). It looks black unless it's next to CE, and the nice bonus is it can mix/match with other popular sets with N9 as the base.

Having a second 2.25u Shift to accommodate FC660M users is great, however you guys are missing one 1.75u Shift to properly support 1800/65/75% arrangements. Also, may I suggest going with either entirely Icon-only mods or Text+Icon mods, it seems strange to have all modifiers with text+icons but then having the second 2.25u Shift being Icon-only. Revised mods incoming tomorrow! Regarding the 1.75u, we thought we had that covered. Mind elaborating?

Sorry I goofed, I saw the additional 1.75u Shift now, it was because in your render, the smaller shifts had text only and not the icon, so that threw me off.

Regardless, I would suggest keeping all the mods consistent, and if you guys decide to go with all icon-only mods with no text, that would be grand!!!  :thumb:

Interesting set!

The render looks like it has two R3 1.75u non-stepped CapsLock keycaps. You might have already fixed it in the new pending one, though.

The base set has a blank R4 1.5u cap. It is really meant to be 1.5u instead of 1.25u?

I'm interested, although I'd prefer CR (black) instead of N9.  Also what about adding a green shift and spacebar?  Other GMK drops have offered space bars, shifts, arrows, etc. in more than one color, where one of the colors is the legend of the other keys.

LeandreN will be linking >Terminal_'s International Kit on Mekanisk. He has also kindly offered to proxy Europe!
Great. LeandreN's proxy is a value added to me.

>Terminal_ has now drawn inspiration from the amazing Skidata+ keyset in the form of icon mods.
One of OG Skidata cool features is the relegendables keys. It might be late now but perhaps you might wanna consider them as future kit.

1800, TX1800, 65% (TADA, RS68, etc.), 75% (Octagon, B.Mini, etc.), Planck, and Preonic compatible caps added.
Extensive support which is nice. I won't insist, but it's worth asking about R5 caps.

A big one - base was changed to N9, which opens up a lot of opportunities to customize with other amazing sets that are the same base color.
I picture myself mixing Skidata and >Terminal_. Nice one.

Keep up the good work.

We have requested the quote include barred F/J keys. Will keep you posted!

I did a quick check of the different layouts I switch between:

60%: Check!
65%: Check!
75%: Check!
1800/18XX: Check!
TKL/Fullsize: Check!

International kit is nice.

Bring on the GB guys!

Nice set! Just one question, why does uk get a free pass (again) while other european locales get second rate citizenship? Do something unique and pick another locale to the main kit, or at least do a favour to norde folk and stuff uk to the international kit to get an extra chance for it to succeed. 150 MOQ norde will be difficult, but with uk at our side we may yet succeed!

Thanks for the feedback.

There are both good sides and bad sides with this.

A lot of UK iso users wouldn't be satisfied.

I am afraid people will settle for the ANSI set because the international set is too expensive "to add". The iso keycaps would also be included in this set, I assume?

If the international kit won't hit the MOQ, there won't be any ISO, even if people would settle for iso UK for their international layouts.

On the other hand, we make it cheaper for all the ANSI buyers, and if I were to put myself in the situation, I would gladly pay 50% of the base set in addition, to getting an ISO layout.

I do think we need the ISO UK help to tip the international kit.

I want to go far to make this set succeed, and your feedback is what we need.

I will bring it up, thanks.

Hey bud. Thanks! N9 is the darkest grey GMK has, its place on their color palette is right before CE (black). Think Dolch's dark legends' base color. Speaking of which, that's why we went with N9, to add the possibility to mix and match with N9 sets (Dolch, Sky, Reborn, Skidata+, etc.), which is pretty cool.

GMK MOQs are typically 150 sets, so it's unlikely it would hit. Sorry :-(

Hey, I love this concept, but there's one small detail that somewhat bothers me. I don't think the current Meta key is representative of the most common use cases for the key on a Unix system. Something like a SunOS style Meta key (diamond sign ♢) or with "Meta" or "Super" (maybe taking the place of the Code key currently included) black lettering on green background would be awesome. Most tiling WM's use that key for normal operation so it's would fit the set like a glove, just like the highlighted ~` key.

Thanks!

Updated OP to include ErgoDox support! Hope you guys like it!

An universal N9 ergodox support is a good idea. It's not clear what profile you have in mind for the thumb cluster, but usually it will only take a few addition to make it compatible with Planck/Preonic. With Carbon, it took an additional 3 keys. So, by adding a mere 3 keys, you can get the ortho crowd on board and reach MOQ faster :)

While I also wish I had some more information on the row profile of the ErgoDox kit, the base kit already supports the Ortho crowd: (https://images.bigcartel.com/product_images/189378950/Terminal_edit_EDGES2_black_code_mockupHELP_crop1_rev1.jpg?auto=format&fit=max&h=1000&w=1000)

Yeah, sets like GMK Hydro had both.  Would offering both have much impact on price or MOQ?  Although my personal preference is for bars, I know a lot of others like scoops and I would like this set to sell as many as possible.

M1keHonch0 here. I'm 1/2 of TKC.

The biggest problem for us trying to offer both scooped and barred keys is the VIM and MiniVan support. If we offer both scooped and barred we have to add an additional 3 keys, not just 2. We will take it under advisement and if I hear enough chatter we can see about making it happen without it affecting the price. No promises though.

I'd vote bars. I haven't used GMK scoops yet, but SP scoops (both SA and DSA) don't provide enough tactile feedback for me to home in on.

Two reasons off the top of my head... Standard colors are cheaper and more likely to match other sets to allow for swapping.

I think it's fine that it is combined with the main set. It would not tip on it's own, same as WKL bottom row.

Thanks! Glad you like it!

GMK's smallest spacebar is 6u. And IIRC there's only like 40 VEA's in the wild. Makes a hard case for a custom key.

What size is the VEA spacebar? Is it 3u?

Hey don't worry, it fits enough other layouts you'll find something to put it on!

VE.A uses a 2.75 shift and numpad 0 as spacebar so it's pretty much just a matter of mismatching legends no worries =)

I preferred the original renders with full UK ISO in the base kit. Then the fully fledged international kit could have had up to 6 keys removed and suited all international sets fully instead. Does anyone know the difference in price between a full international kit (minus UK ISO) vs international essentials?

They can do any custom color, I assume that includes GID. It's just a plastic additive. Shouldn't be a big deal. But custom colors equal higher MOQ.

I've thought about this too. GID only reaches full potential if lights are out and that's not an environment anyone should really be typing in too much to save their eyes. I don't really believe this is even a possibility for this set. That said, very excited for this set to be released, I love my some uniform colored GMK sets.

The grey is N9. Its the same grey from Dolch, Sky Dolch, Dolch Reborn, Skidata+, Charred Orange, Hydro, and upcoming Pyro.

Base kit, cable, mouse pad, and sticker cuz why not? Putting faith in you KBC to not need PP buyer protection but seem to be putting a lot of effort into being professional so that lays to rest many worries. Now just shorten that 120 day wait to one week then we are good.

This will be addressed. Thank you for pointing that out! Stayed tuned for an update.

We're working on an option for buyers who can only use PayPal. Stay tuned for an update.

Sorry, no PayPal. Perhaps in the future but not likely during this GB.

Came here and signed up to say I'm in... as a Vim enthusiast, the HJKL keys were the thing that drew me in and didn't let me go.

My first major keycap purchase, so my fingers are crossed that all goes well!

Thanks for putting this together. It looks just lovely.

Damn it it this is disappointing, I was really looking forward to this and now there is no PayPal option, which really sucks for international buyers.

In the US this is true, not so much in Germany. Cash is King, and for everything else there is wire transfer and PayPal... except this apparently.

We tried to make a proxy happen, and LeandreN was happy to help. Sadly, if we went that route we would have had to pay VAT twice. Thats no good for anyone. The shipping from USA to most place in Europe is only about $15 more than it is to ship domestic.

I am looking into a way to open up PayPal as a payment option. The problem is, we are selling the Essentials kit at a very low margin. Adding a PayPal option to the nearly doubles our transaction fees. At that point we are selling Essentials kit at a loss. We will both work dilligently to work out a solution to provide an option that works for everyone. Stay tuned.

edit: it seems I cannot read. The international shipping form china is 12.90. Still 20 USD cheaper to Finland than form USA.

If its cheaper for you from China, go for it! Just bear in mind the lead time will be a little longer because we have to ship the sets to China and then they will ship from China to buyers. Also, the Taobao store is an authorized reseller of our product. If you buy from them any issues that may arise must be resolved through Taobao and not through TheKey.Company.

UPDATE: If you are outside of China or SE Asia you cannot purchase from our authorized reseller. I just verified with him that shipping rates will be higher than the flat rate posted on his site. If you are in Europe and order through Taobao your order may be cancelled.

I updated the site for clarity. Our friend in China is hosting a concurrent GB with us so that people abroad may save on shipping. If you purchase through Taobao, you handle your order through Taobao, and your order will ship to you from their warehouse.

Hmm..

Regarding the 'having to pay VAT twice', anyone in Europe now has to do that. The only method for circumventing this is to have a company in Europe make the GMK order, then that company can sell the USA (and China) orders forward. That way in Europe we would pay VAT only once, same as you in the USA. This is because no VAT is applied in B2B transactions in Europe. If the GMK packet is first sent to USA, then I'm not sure how that would go as I'm not familiar with your VAT system, but from your earlier comment I assume that double VAT would be applied.

Btw, would you be willing to bill me as a company, instead of a private customer?  :))
I'm going to have to get a company going at some point and I wonder if such a thing is something that you would be willing to do.

I know PayPal fees are terrible and I understand that is an issue. Perhaps it could be a payment option with the added fees in the transaction? I'm not sure the exact amount, but perhaps add a 5%~ fee to any PayPal order?

From the PayPal ToS:

Quote
4.5 No Surcharges. You agree that you will not impose a surcharge or any other fee for accepting PayPal as a payment method. You may charge a handling fee in connection with the sale of goods or services, as long as the handling fee does not operate as a surcharge and is not higher than the handling fee you charge for non-PayPal transactions.

Not really worth the risk of having funds frozen... I mean, I wouldn't report them, but is it worth the risk?

We can absolutely mail to a business. I am not sure how that will affect VAT however. I know just enough about VAT laws to be informed but not enough to advise you.
RE B2B: GMK will only ship to the country originating and paying for the order. So the only way around that is to place your own order with GMK. We cant even do a separate PO, we tried.

I didn't even notice that the international kit changed. Previously it was possible to have swe/fi with just two alt-gr legends missing. Right now having incorrect legends, as well as missing some, is mandatory :(
I'd vote for having the <> key have just the two and remove the pipe.

I thought the whole point of the international essentials by Wodan was to include the ISO essentials as part of the base set as it would only increase the cost of the whole kit by $16.50 and help with the international guys joining more group buys (thus the community) as seperate essentials kits never hit MOQ?

I hope the fat crossed-arrow on the 1.5u R3 Backspace keycap won't get dropped. It goes along well with all the other icon mods IMO.

We will pick up the slack for the essentials kit but we need to sell at least 125 of them. We're not even close.

Base has almost hit MOQ.

What happened to the guy that said he'd buy 5 just to make it drop?

I'd buy some 2-3 sets, but I cannot justify a 282 USD keyset that has some wrong legends in it. I would tolerate missing tertiary legends on some keys, but having wrong ones is too much for my minor OCD.
The international kit pictured before the GB began was a lot better in this aspect. I was also hoping that the VAT debacle could somehow be handled for this GB. Right now it raises the price for me by 60-80 USD.

I think the GB is gonna go for a month, so i guess this is pretty early to now whats gonna happen with it.. i am in for a international kit too..

We will pick up the slack for the essentials kit but we need to sell at least 125 of them. We're not even close.

Base has almost hit MOQ.

What happened to the guy that said he'd buy 5 just to make it drop?

Isn't the MOQ For international kit 100? Thats what GMK said last time.

Essentials MOQ is 150. They tried to make it lower but the people in charge said no. We will pay for up to 25 of them out of pocket to help make it drop.

What is your issue with the legends? Did you voice your opinion early on in the IC?

Vat debacle? There is no way around it, end users have to pay Vat. If you know of a [legal] way to circumvent paying Vat drop me a PM.

If you have been unable to negotiate a lower MOQ for the international kit, why do you have it in a separate kit? Having its own slightly more ascetic ISO base set without ANSI/plank/whatever keys would be immensely cheaper.

No. The pricing is based on the highest tier MOQ so the price will remain the same. We feel confident the set will sell big numbers so doing it this way makes the process easier and give everyone the best price out of the gate.

We have done a lot to accommodate people in the international community but based on some of the comments, some are hard to please! I hope for the sake of the international community that the set hits MOQ. If it doesn't, it may discourage others from doing the same.

I did not voice my opinion as the pictures of the international kit in the IC phase were spot on.

I understood that Leandren was hoping to do proxying or that we could have been able to catch the GMK shipment before it left for the states. This was not possible because GMK is willing to send only to the business who is paying for the order.

You are calling your countries sales tax a "VAT debacle" that can "somehow be handled" ?

What you are saying:

"Why don't you do something illegal to help me avoid my countries taxes"

Stop asking/demanding GB runners to help you avoid taxes! You are asking/pushing people to break laws in their own country and/or help you break laws in your country.

How can it be held against a GB organizer when they are not providing any of this?

You are paying VAT on tons of things every day without making such a scene because you never see the net price. When buying stuff abroad you suddenly see the net price and realize "OMG I HAZ TO PAY VATZ" ... a little simple minded.

Sorry for my ignorance, but I was under the impression that the prices on TKC are VAT inclusive and I will have to pay them twice. Once in the states and once in Finland as part of the importing procedures. As GMK is in ETA, it could be possible to pay VAT only once and it was my understanding that it was something that was considered at some point in this GB with the help of Leandren.

I'm not trying to demand anything, I'm just sad to see the final price and how the international set was stripped of keys that I would have liked to see on my keyboard.  :'(

Sorry for derailing the thread.

To clear this up: You, as a buyer, would pay VAT once the way it is being sold.

Had we used LeandreN as a proxy we would have had to pay it twice, negating the savings on shipping.

Sorry for continuing the discussion, but I'd be very interested to hear in detail where, at what stages and with what rates the VATs would have/are being paid now and how it would have been with Leandren proxying. Just to better understand the situation and to limit my ignorance.  :(

I'm apparently not familiar enough with tax/vat things outside of Europe.

No worries man. I had to get a book at the library to understand it myself.

VAT was never going to be circumvented in any way. Doing a proxy would have saved a little money on shipping. That's was why we considered it.

Hope this helps.

The kit is very reasonably priced.  But honestly, I'll be super surprised if it meets that MOQ.  This happens way too often.  Euros want nice caps for their numerous ISO layouts but they don't show up on group buy day.  :(

I'm in the US, (sadly) only speak English, and don't use ISO and I'm in for for an international kit. Partly to help out the international peeps and partly because I'm working on a custom build and I can use 4 of the keys from the international kit. I figure that's still less than the $10/key that SP charges for individuals. Here's hoping it drops.... I still think we had a better chance of hitting MOQ for a Colevrak kit though.  ;)

Please don't complain about Europeans not getting enough kits, buying a set as a European gets really expensive if you want to cover something other than ISO-UK. Getting the base kit and paying for US shipping sets you at about 200$. Add 30$ for the international kit, another 10-20$ for international shipping and, in my case, 19% taxes. That leaves you at ~290-300$. In the big picture it's still A LOT more for the 5-6 keys you need. No wonder those won't hit MOQ.

I still ordered the base kit, the international kit and a cable (my wallet is already crying in the corner) because I really really love that set. So...

For the Danes stopping by THIS IS HOW NICE IT WILL LOOK!!

Just tried a clip an paste to see for the danish layout, I have no problem losing a few symbols to get my Æ Å Ø  an dot & comma is in the right place. When i have to do proper gramma :D

the hardest to loose is ( " ) , but i know where it is.. so it actually just makes the set look more clean :)

What other option is there though?  If EU members want to have their various layouts covered that's fine, but usually the only way to have the multiple different layouts covered is to include an Intl kit, because including those keys in a base kit where 95% or more of the people ordering aren't going to use it makes even less sense.

I understand your sentiment and can understand why EU members don't want to pay for them, but if you want kits that are less popular, the cost is going to be high just like shipping, VAT, and other things.  And think of it this way, you pay more than US members for keyboard stuff but US members pay way more for healthcare related things :)

Yeah, it really sucks that there's so many different layouts but I'll happily spend the money if I think it's worth it :)
Still, I was thinking about getting an ANSI board and using AHK to get my ß,ö,ä and. Maybe it's worth a shot.

Dolch and Stormtrooper both have 137 caps per set, while Terminal has 169.  Stormtrooper was specifically noted to be a low-cost GMk set, while Dolch and Terminal come within $0.04 of each other on a per-cap basis, so like you said they probably aren't 100% comparable :)

I rely on your cap counts:

Terminal: $159 / 169 caps = avg of $0.94 per cap.
Dolch: $117.40 (110€) / 139 caps = $0.84 per cap.
Stormtrooper: $100 / 139 caps = $0.72 per cap.

Both dolch and stormtrooper have standard legends, no additional molds required. Terminal has custom molds, i dont know the price they charge per mold.
The difference is 22 cent per cap, or $37.18. As said, this math on averages - and always GMK quality.

I also wanted to remind people that there are 9 custom legends in the base kit. We really fought to get the best pricing for everyone, which is why we chose to price it at max MOQ. It's a gamble and we may not hit the top tier MOQ-wise, but we wanted to make the price reasonable while not losing our shirts. Believe me, if we could make it cheaper we would have. Kitting out the compatibility kits may please some people, but I hope it means the world to those who would not have the option to cover their boards had they been a separate kit missing MOQ.

We also wanted to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their support, feedback, criticism, and just in general. Keep'em coming. It means a lot, really.

I think the custom molds for this set look great! They don't feel like traditional novelties to me, they blend in perfectly with the theme. Worth the price to me, and hopefully to the others on the buy.

In for a Base set, a cable, and two spacebar kits!

Sorry about the Dolch price, didn't see that the shipping was included in the price so that skews price slightly, however, with custom molds I assume that cost is going to make up the difference.  Also, not all GMK pricing comes out equal and there is always some variance on the per-cap cost.  For example, I have included some recent sets, how many caps they included, their price and their per-cap pricing and they vary quite a bit overall:

GMK Monkey - 116 caps/$125/$1.07 per cap
GMK Skidata - 136 caps/$145/$1.06 per cap
GMK Hyperfuse - 124 caps/$115/$0.93 per cap
GMK 9009 - 140 caps/$140/$1.00 per cap
GMK Cyan - 118 caps/$122/$1.03 per cap

These are just a few I pulled up quickly, and compared to Terminal the pricing is on par or actually more expensive.

For GMK dolch the price is a lot lower, as it includes ETA VAT & shipping. For a German buying Terminal base set it will be around 218 EUR before it is on his doorstep. Almost double to Dolch. For someone in the states, I imagine they will cost around the same.

edit: note that dolch was a zero profit GB, which makes the comparison invalid.

FYI, $159 is a steep price. The ISO/ANSI-DE dolch GB is priced 117€ including shipping ( https://www.computerbase.de/forum/showthread.php?t=1601148 (https://www.computerbase.de/forum/showthread.php?t=1601148) ), the GMK stormtrooper GB ( https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=82240.0 (https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=82240.0) ) is $100 plus shipping. i know, this isnt 100% comparable, but it gives you a hint how much the set really costs. If you do some price adjusting, im in!

The German Dolch set was specifically ran as a no-profit keyset, same with Stormtrooper (Manifex actually is probably in the red on that set, as shipping was more than he expected), so there is no comparison here. Also, both of those sets have fewer total cap count than this set, with no custom legends.

I'm not saying this set is not expensive (it is!), but in terms of value for money, you're not any worse off than the average GMK group buys

you realize we're talking about the sets not including shipping? or are you referencing shipping from germany->US?
Still, we are talking about average keycap price, so the absolute amount is irrelevant.

FYI: dolch and stormtrooper are nearly the same, but there is 12ct (*139) difference between the caps!

No, as in from the time of IC to the GB, currency fluctuations meant that Manifex lost money on the keysets at his $100 price point, and had to pull in a lot of his personal funds to make up for it, international shipping costing more than expected does not help either.

In any case, getting logistics, payments and coordination sorted for something like this is not free. Especially if it's a vendor. You can complain all you want about the price, but this is on par with most vendor-ran GMK sets recently. If you would like to organise your own low cost GMK buy, I'll chip in to support your efforts. As is, I don't really think it's an appropriate comparison to draw between community-ran no-profit sets vs vendor-backed sets.
