“The sea is everything. It covers seven-tenths of the terrestrial globe. Its breath is pure and life-giving.
It is an immense desert place where man is never lonely, for he senses the weaving of Creation on every hand.
It is the physical embodiment of a supernatural existence… For the sea is itself nothing but love and emotion.”

1800 and fullsize layouts in both standard and winkeyless variants while keeping mind affordability.

Some notable inclusions are the accent Enter, Esc and Arrow keys, split backspace and stepped caps lock keys.

Very nice. I still have my original Nautilus set.

Does GMK make a convex 1.75u spacebar now? What about 1.25u and 3u?

No ErgoDox. No Colevrak. :/

The demand for Ergodox kits have dropped significantly over the last few years. I've been monitoring how those kits do with GMK group buys and it's so hard to get them to hit MOQ. Drop had leftovers of those kits during the 2018 and 2019 Yanbo's closet.

Week two recap

  • Core, Novelties and Space Bars have reached the MOQ (minimum order quantity) during week two.
  • Things are also looking great the International kit. With its current pace, we could be around 40 units out of the 50 required by the end of week four.

I have been comparing the renders in this set to the renders in the Group Buy for Nautilus V1 as well as to "IRL" examples (i.e. different videos) and it seems to me that the base color of the non-modifier keys are using a lighter shade of blue than in the previous run. Link to GB Nautilus v1:

https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=85336.0

The fonts of the letters also seem smaller than in the previous run.

Are there any changes to the color palettes and/or fonts used in this run compared to Nautilus V1?

EDIT: For those who are interested, Zambumon has responded to this question previously in the IC thread:

https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=104475.0

"Nautilus 2 will be using the same colors as the previous round and I have instructed GMK to use the same colors that we had during the first round. The goal is indeed being able to mix and match, but keep in mind that the color matching process is not that easy and there could be slightly differences between the first and second round."

Zambumon can clarify, but it’s probably just because keysets (and colors in general) can look different in videos, photos, and real life than they do in renders. Color science is surprisingly complex, and color matching can be difficult. Photos and videos you may have seen may not accurately reflect the precise color of the set depicted because of how the creator color graded the image/video and whether or not they calibrated with a color target. There is also a difference in apparent luminosity with colors in real life and on screens. Imagery and colors tend to appear lighter on screen than they do in person because screens are emissive (they are themselves giving off light) whereas physical objects in person are reflective, reflecting light from a light source (the color and temperature of which may vary and also affect the apparent color of something. Last, the monitor or mobile device you’re viewing on and the intensity and color of the ambient light around you can affect the appearance of color.

*end rant*
If you can tell by my screen name, I’m a photographer. I worked in grad school as an archival photographer for a museum, where every photo had to be ensured to be completely color accurate to maintain an accurate record. There’s a surprising amount of work that goes into it and a lot of ways for color not to appear the way it does in real life. If Zambumon says it’ll be the same color, I believe it. Taking it with the obvious grain of salt that GMK might not get the color matching 100%. For what it’s worth, my computer monitors are routinely calibrated, and I’ll still get keysets that don’t look 100% like what I thought they would. That doesn’t mean they don’t look incredible though. Also sorry if this came off as stern or condescending. I’m honestly just a photography and color matching nerd who can’t contain his enthusiasm.

As someone with a round 1 set, some of the renders, particularly those on the polycarbonate thermal, lean more green heavy in my opinion. But as its been said, you aren't going to get 100% color accuracy on screen for a variety of reasons. If the same colors are being used as R1 though people can expect a very vibrant and striking set. This will always be one of, if not my absolute, favorite GMK set.

GMK's color accuracy with Carbon R2 vs Carbon R1 was spectacular. If there's any color variance, I expect it to be minimal.

i'm new to this thing, just got a v7, currently using a modded drop alt.

i thought the desirable caps are made of double shot PBT. but all these gmk keys are ABS, and are really expensive. am i missing something? i know that quality ABS caps are better than aliexpress/ebay PBT, but i feel like at this price they should be PBT. someone please throw me a bone .

yes but some vendors already sold their extras. dailyclack and one of the EU vendors (forgot which one) start selling extras right after GB finishes. dixie mech will have extras after the GB ships.

Mine do as well, but it seems this is going to be an issue with all GMK sets being produced right now since they are slowly getting new molds in. It should apparently work itself out though over a few weeks of typing on it.

Yeah kind of sucks that I'll never have that new keycap experience with these. A year ago when I bought these, I would never have imagined that GMK would be the one to watch out for quality issues

Not sure what can be done right now honestly. I doubt they would mix plastic to ship them out, and they have so many sets coming, so it's not like they're hungering for more business. Interesting that it's not getting talked about in the grand scheme. But it really does suck that their QC standards are so low in regards to stuff like this that is out of the vendor/designer's hands.

I have the same R2 shine issue. It really sucks. I literally own over 15 different GMK sets and none of them or even Bleached that I got the same week has this issue. Seems we made GMK too successful with too many GBs and they don't have the capacity to fix the issue or prevent it from getting past QC in the first place. They don't really need to correct the issue.

Ooph. Well mine are stuck in GA for over 12 days with no movement. I really hope when they get here they don't have this issue!

If it is really bad, couldn't you take it up with your vendor and get a replacement or your $ back?
Or does it not work like that? I thought they kept some extras for QC issues, no?

Apparently this issue is within the QC standards set by GMK and Omnitype, so there isn't much to do. Still doesn't feel great, and it will harm my ability to resell if I ever want to

Now that you guys pointed it out, I checked mine and found the "QWERTYU" keys do have inconsistent textures, both on the top and on the side. It is not noticeable without harsh light hitting the caps, though. I wouldn't necessarily call it shine, but definitely texture differences.

Honestly I don't know how to feel about this. I purchased several other GMK sets currently in production, so I am concerned if those sets will have similar issues or worse issues. I still wouldn't call this a "disaster" because as far as I know, there are no other major issues of this set, and the spacebar is not warped.

For the comments on GMK, I don't think making them "too successful" is the issue. Sure, their workload has increased tremendously with almost half a dozen GB's every month, but I think that should make them more serious about delivering a good product rather than taking it for granted. Changes are going to happen within GMK to deal with the increased workload, and the byproduct of that may be what we are seeing right now. Also not to mention complications due to the current pandemic...

As usual I see people jumping on to conclusions faster than a diving champion and assuming the worst. Inconsistency of texture is a valid complaint, but I am afraid painting GMK as the villain on a 14 year old, out-of-date (though still useful) forum is not going to do anything. If anything is going to help, as least communicate this to the vendors that you purchased the keyset from. Judgement without understanding is just junk banter, and pointing fingers is not going to do anything good.

I think people would have different expectation for used sets, and I don't think the set is "unsellable" if it's got some shine on it, but I digress. Try talking to Omnitype to see if this is actually within their QC ranges, and I'm going to do the same before I draw any conclusions.

Edit: so apparently this is within GMK's qc range quoting Zambumon.

Yeah I had already checked. The thing is, it really isn't up to the designers/vendors because redoing r2 for the set and shipping out would be a logistics nightmare for really small gains. I don't blame anyone for having that stance, but GMK should not have let those print in combination with newer sets.

In terms of resell, I would definitely avoid buying a set with a manufacturing error, and would probably want to pay less for it. I'm probably keeping nautilus forever until it's smooth and shiny, but it does still feel like it limits my options.

Lmao Fortunately you will shine your keycaps anyway so it's alright XDDD

Hahah exactly. Your new *item* will exhibit *signs of wear* through regular use. So just wear it out and you won't notice the difference!

We are also ignoring the fact that it isn't regular shine either. It just looks like it. There is actually inconsistent blobby and glossy texturing across the keycap as well (which yes, will get worn with use, but should not exist on premium keycaps). It doesn't need "harsh light" to see. Just a bit of afternoon sunlight at an angle will do.

Sorry to say but you're out of luck. There are vendors and designers who care and then there are those where you don't matter after they pocket your money. This gb is the latter, or well, if you make a reddit post that gets traction then maybe Dixie will bother with you, maybe. Don't forget to make at least one Dixiemech ticket for every order he sold, otherwise the issue doesn't exist.

Good evening,

We've been in touch with GMK in regards to an issue with some “F13” keycaps of the extension kit. As pictured below, some of the F13 keycaps have a yellow blemish on the top right side of the cap, as if the yellow plastic underneath was emerging to the surface.

After receiving these reports we've confirmed that not all kits are affected by this issue, informed GMK about it and we have started working on getting replacements for those affected with it.

If you are affected by this issue, please fill up this form. Provide your order# and a photo so GMK can make these replacements as soon as possible.

Form link

Locking thread so Emir doesn't crap all over it once again and we can get the F13s replaced.

What about these keys? Any news that these keys could possible be replaced as well? Or would you be willing to say this is within GMK's quality control standards?

Unlocked the thread so that legitimate discussion can take place if needed. Let's keep it on-topic and relevant to the discussion at hand - this isn't the time or place to throw insults at vendors. Anything off-topic should be reported so it can be removed from the thread.

Guess we got the answer elsewhere!
Wonder why Krelbit decided to open up a form for these issues with metaverse r2 if these are acceptable standards.
Very curious how GMK qc standards seem to shift from set to set, designer to designer. Hoping to get more consistency and transparency with this manufacturer soon! I'm personally a little jaded getting word about qc acceptance second hand from vendors every time a new issue pops up.

Rarely agree with your criticisms but GMK QC went from going downhill to straight up jumping off a cliff.

For a hobby where aesthetics is a main concern,  I think the row 2 issue should definitely be addressed. For a darker set like Nautilus, the affected keys look like oil smudges from someone typing with their Cheetos fingers

I personally experienced 3 problematic GMK sets in a row.

- GMK Metaverse.  Props to Krelbit for replacing r2

- GMK Noel. Agilr acknowledges the r2 issue but I don't think he is pursuing for replacements with GMK.

- GMK Bleach, although not widespread, black specs on alphas. Props for thick thock for acknowledging the issue and replacing the problematic keys.

What about these keys? Any news that these keys could possible be replaced as well? Or would you be willing to say this is within GMK's quality control standards?

i have this issue on several of the recent GMK sets i received. i guess this is the new normal for GMK. also have a few sets with weird looking question marks.
