And a favicon! Or I will lose the bookmark among all other sites without one...I'm seeing a favicon:
PLEASE MARK GROUP BUYS THAT ARE FINSHED, or at least ones that you cannot participate in. It makes it so annoying when you have to read the whole thread to see if it's still available, thanks :DGH does not run group buys. marking the status of GBs is the sole responsibility of the GB organizer.
I would like a theme that is easier on the eyes. Something that I can actually use.
A "Next Page" link next to the "jump to page" links. I keep hitting the next and previous thread links FFFUUUUUUUU!
How do you get to the advanced editor from the Reply to a topic? Am I missing something?
edit - I suppose preview does this although it is not very intuitive.
It would also be nice to move the Search box out of the collapsible header and into the menu bar (like GH vB) and also have the unread posts link outside of that header. It takes up a lot of space and that's the only thing I have it expanded for. Anyone share my opinion? ;)
Please move (new) to the front of the subject line. Less mouse motion for more comfort! ;)2nd.

Where is the editor with icons?
There is a reply button at the top and at the bottom.
And make PM notifications more obvious - I'm waiting on replies from multiple people and just tried to test-PM myself, you don't even know there is a message unless you manually go to check them.
Did you try all the themes under Profile -> Forum Profile -> Look and Layout -> Current theme (change) ?Yes, of course. In most of the themes, the orange clashes with other colours and it strains my eyes.

It's not exactly a new feature.done
Please make the hide button available for every forum section, not just projects and archives.
Is there any way you would consider not pulling down avatars from URLs? I would love to be able to use a rotating avatar.no. locally stored avatars are significantly safer in every way. you can consider this an official request for avatar rotation via the server though :)

Location under avatar is a great thing, it's annoying that GH and DT don't have it.I don't really use mine, so I'll add my location info there.
It would also be nice to have a "last page" link under each topic in the main forums so that you can easily jump to the latest post :)

Just saying :)
Hrrm not sure if this deserves its own thread but please de-homophobify the word filter. G a y is not always a slur nor should we treat it as one.
I'm talking non-negative connotation of homosexuality. It's plenty okay to use the word to refer to homosexuals as a matter of fact... just don't go throwing it around like an insult. I don't think that GH has a problem with that most of the time so banning the word entirely is just shoo-shooing it under the rug so we dont have to think about things.Hrrm not sure if this deserves its own thread but please de-homophobify the word filter. The only other way it could be used to to express a mood of happiness, and unfortunately the slur killed off the proper meaning.
Can we add 'Location' back into the mix? It was nice being able to call out local Chicagoans =)this is done and will go up with the next deployment

I knew I had used the feature after the new forum came back up. In the thread listing in the forum of your thread you will see the little "Remove topic" and "Lock topic" icons in the right most column. That lock icon actually unlocks your thread even though it says Lock this after you have locked it.thank you so much for figuring this out!
Is there a roadmap that is kept up to date?i'll update it right now
note to future self: the lock button is actually a toggle for normal users. change default template to say "unlock" when thread is locked.
That's a different view... Consistency has been an issue with SMFs presentation.
I don't even have that column on the right with the icons like Glissant does.
And what's with everyone using Thoriated? Use Nostalgia, people! :p

Make it mandatory for members to enter their location (real location) in their profile before posting in the Classifieds/Group Buys subforums.
Go into your profile (click your avi), under your avi hit 'Show Posts' Then hit 'Show Topics'

instead, it can all be one line, technically.
Is it that you want to be able to subscribe to a thread and get email while also being subscribed to other threads and not getting email? I have no issue being subscribed to threads and getting no email.
Under Account Settings -> Modify Profile -> Notifications -> For topics and boards I've requested notification on, notify me of: Nothing at all
^^ orange menu bar "Notifications"
So setting "For topics and boards I've requested notification on, notify me of: " to "Nothing at all" doesn't stop the email for you?

Sigh, maybe u should read back to my original request. I want there to be an option of notifications of subscribed topics in there but not via email. U know, like every other forum on the internet with usercp, u subscribe to topics, Can just check ur usercp for updates to your subscribed topics when u login to see new replies. Alot easier to keep track of things.
Have titles of threads that are unread or have unread posts be bold. This would make it easier to distinguish. Same thing in the Topic Spy.
Can we move the Logout button? I keep hitting it when going to click the Spy. -_-;
bookmarks or favorites!
Please! there are a lot of cool stuff into GH but it's impossible to keep track ...
There is a lot of info that needs to get into the Wiki. The old Wiki was horrible, but had no barrier to entry. The new Wiki is a proper Wiki, but the barrier to entry is higher.Never saw the old one.
A "Suggest for Wiki" button/link could be neat ...I think it would be cool too.
Oh, I was just pointing out that you'll need to get an account on the Wiki in order to edit it. Are you saying that you'd like wiki access? No, I do already got one wiki account - thanks!
In the Classified ads section..
how about actual sub topics
Want To Buy / Sell / Trade
cables
cases
keyboards
keycaps
Kits
LEDs
switches
services
mechanicals (plates, stabilizers etc)
this is basically tagging, and it is on the roadmap
Could we get a bigger Spy (more topics in it)? :DJust asking again, or is there a way I can query it myself? I would prefer to have a few more entries in my Spy, if at all possible.
The spy is going to be re-written. The current one is a kludge, but I can take a look at it again to see what can be done with it.
Yep...I'm reconfiguring it now. Should be working momentarily.Ah thanks sir.
4) multi-quote button (unless I am missing something, but it's clunky and glitchy now)
I would just like the option of making a PM as read or unread. Or "NEW" like when they're fresh.
Or anything that would make a message stand out other than putting it in another folder with other messges that I don't know if I have read or checked.
Every email and PM thingy I have seen has this feature as the de facto standard. Sadly I'm just not enough of a savant to work this system the way it is designed.
I hate not being able to get back to people in the same volume and consistency that I feel is important. It just makes me really frustrated and sad.
If for some reason you happen to be in a particuarly generous mood and if for some reason I have not annoyed you then... pssst.... a proper folder system would be really nice too. Gmail actually has this. They also have labels BUT they are also quite visual.
Here is my more comprehensive list (some mentioned before)
1) read or unread option in PMs
2) Folders
3) favorites type thing
4) multi-quote button (unless I am missing something, but it's clunky and glitchy now)
5) Subscription/Notification folders this could essentially be a "favorites" type thing but imagine how easy it would be to reference or track information.
And ONE BIG THANK YOU for making the image upload and display way more intuitive and easy than it previously was after the big gh reboot. You guys are my hero for that one.
I would love it if there was a way I could send a mass PM to people (like to pay outstanding invoices) without having to individually enter and click on a drop down for every one.
It's not a big deal for 1 - 3, but when I'm trying to send a PM to 10+ people? Time consuming and irritating to not be able to copy/pasta a text form.
...

I'm trying to grok your other requests:Thanks buddy!
1) You are looking for a way to mark as unread or otherwise flag a PM, yes?Essentially yes I think. It's a very basic and innate part of my workflow. I just can't seem to find a way around it.
2) Folder for PMs? Labels accomplish this in a Gmail-esque way. If you want to filter labeled PMs from your Inbox, select "Remove the inbox label when applying another label" in your settings. That pretty much gives you Gmail labels with "auto-archive"; a.k.a. folders.I tried that before and for some reason it didn't work for me (or work at the time idr). I have tried it again more recently and I can get it to mostly work (with the "remove inbox label" thing ticked). The problems I keep running into is how to delete or move an item from one area and not the other. Sadly I have lost countless messages because of this.
3) Are you still talking about PMs here? Users? Posts? Likes? Favorites of what?
4) Done.Thank you so much for this one. Even though it's true that I cannot get it to work I'm very happy you implemented it.
5) Related to #3. Please explain.Sure, and sorry about that.
A specific example would be-
Say you're interested in all things Model M and you are subscribed to many model M threads (among other things). But you are looking for just a couple specific posts you kinda remember regarding some M info. It's a daunting task looking through all of your subscriptions to find it. But if you had an "M" folder then you have a good place to start or better yet, you may have already had a more specific M folder. And the best part is... wait for it... you still have the normal notifications list, so if anyone posts in it, it still shoots to the top!
This is basically like a favorites, but with additional benefits. LuLz, "favorites with benefits". =P
meh, that's already called off-topic, and i'm fine with it adding to post counts.Ok fair enough.
Oh wellz. :) Noobs be noobs, and there's nothing wrong with ignorance. :)
Sorry man, it's okay if you're cranky, I should have looked harder.... I don't think it's the same as I did try to find it. I looked under account settings, and forum profile. I didn't realize once you're in the profile that "modify profile" was it's own link which opens up further menus. I thought I was in the "modify profile" section as it was giving me some options. When I simply mouse over profile in the main menu. Look and layout isn't an option. I should have gone deeper but please don't pretend like I didn't try at all. Of course I would google a question before blindly asking it, I am in no way like those people on tomshardware.Oh wellz. :) Noobs be noobs, and there's nothing wrong with ignorance. :)
Yes there is. He asked for a new feature before looking to see if it already existed. That's like the people on Tom's Hardware asking for the drivers for motherboard XXX before googling it (and seeing that it's on the first page of results). Other people shouldn't have to point you to everything, especially when it takes less time to find it yourself than to make a post.
/rant
Maybe I'm just a bit cranky right now...
Oh wellz. :) Noobs be noobs, and there's nothing wrong with ignorance. :)I am indeed a noob. Sometimes quite ignorant.
It took you longer to write that post than it would to have looked it the settings... Hint - It's under "Look and Layout"...I did look in the settings. Evidently I am not smart enough to find it on my own. It took me about 60 seconds to write the post. I looked in the most obvious places where I thought it would be. Aka Forum Profile/Account Settings. I'm not sure why this modify profile drop down has seemingly redundant options. In fact, the only non-redundant options are 'look and layout' and 'buddies/ignore list' - these 2 can only be accessed from this internal menu. All the rest are either hard-coded into the top main menu or are available from the 'profile' drop down off of the main menu.

The statement "Am I just dumb or.." was my way of saying, I cannot find this. I even went on to say "I'm hoping it's here and I just can't find it"
Blah I don't know why I'm defending myself, it doesn't even mater. Sorry to annoy you; thanks for the tip. I found it now.

It took me a few hours in gimp... (Yeah... I still don't really know how to use gimp, but whenever I need a different sized avatar I can make it from the source file. Which means I'm not totally incompetent...)
It is a symbol that I made MANY years ago (except that the avatar version is missing the infinity symbol underneath. With how small avatars are often limited to I figured it would be best to just chop that off.) I still remember when 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows' came out... The symbol for the deathly hallows was very similar... Though I suppose there were quite a few other's that were similar long before then, I never really noticed until after deathly hallows came out...

Can the mobile forum browsing app "Forumrunner" be made available? I believe it's free for the forum to activate and it's offered as paid and unpaid versions in iPhone/Android app stores. That would provide another option for members in addition to Tapatalk.
I use it for another forum and it's a breeze.
Can we get rid of the 'Your last post was less than 40 seconds ago' error message or make it less like 20 seconds or something? I am tired of seeing this because I read and type quickly.
If possible, please reduce the time interval to last PM sent. I understand it's to prevent spamming. But sometimes when I haven't logged in for a whole day or more, I have to answer PMs quicker and that time interval limitation is quite annoying.
Here's an idea. If you have more than 1000 posts, and have been a member for more than a year, the limit is removed. It would be a perk for active members only.
16.583 posts per day... I'm glad that the limit is in place for you 8)

Well on DT...I know right.....it shows your outbox and messages are there until received/read or whateve and it's more of I just want to make sure the first PM went through so I don't bug a person by sending two more......I've had a few pm's lately disappear into the ether.
Also JD I'm sending you a PM :)

I'm not sure about a "Read" but I would like an auto-save to outbox or something? Because if there is a "Sent" I never notice and on Sataday I sent a load of PM's which apparently didnt arrive?
...Yes I new about that I was thinking about an auto-save, as I always forget about that.
I'm not sure how that is possible. That option is not conditional on anything. It should always be there. What if you change themes?Sorry that was a Photoshop :( I felt stoopid for not seeing it before, If im honest I never noticed those settings there before, because when you hover over the message tab, it only shows 2 possible tabs out of the 3 (maybe that can be changed?)
I would really love to see more keyboard shortcuts.
This isn't so much a feature request as it is a (possibly) fun suggestion.
A site I used to frequent used to have this system whereby you could anonymously message someone. People used to use it to tell people they liked things, or such. I'm sure some used it to say mean things (which, for some reason, I would expect to happen more often here than there, because, well... DRAMA!), but I never heard of things like that.
A thread was also created whereby people would confess things anonymously to others, who would then post the confession in the thread. It was very interesting at times.
I just suggest it because I feel closer to this community than any other I've been a part of, so I wouldn't mind knowing more about everyone.

And that's the fun of it! People wouldn't say certain things face to face, but anonymity adds security, and people can indulge.

How about adding a list of the top 10 posters by posting frequency (posts per day)?

Didn't there use to be a feature that allowed users to delete their own posts/topics? It's a feature I strongly believe should be re-implemented. Would make it easier on mods when someone requests for one of their posts/topics to be deleted.
If you post it, you should be able to un-post it. Simple as that.

i think the fear is people would say nasty mean stuff, leave it up for long enough to offend and then delete it and act like nothing happened.....or maybe i'm just paranoid ;)
(I agree we should be allowed to delete our post, especially newly created topics, or like within so many minutes of posting etc)
So I think it would be a great idea to create a new sub-forum in classifieds just for clacks, that way all the clack threads don't clutter up the regular classifieds.
An option to block a forum area from being visible in unread/spy
I do not want any of the threads in off-topic visible in unread/spy.
is that possible?
I would like to have the option to mark a thread as a "favorite" and have a "favorite" tab that would list them all, showing the ones with the most recent posts first. You could remove this flag so they are not in your list anymore if you want, similar to follow, but instead of being a mail, it would just be in this list.

I think you can get what you want today:
Use watch for favorites, go here http://geekhack.org/index.php?action=watched to view them.
Use notify for the topics where you want to be mailed.
Well, the poll feature isn't working for me. And it hasn't been fixed. So I'm going to keep whining.
Unless I am mistaken and don't know how to use it, without doing anything I end up with 7 pages of watched topic all the time. Seems like all threads where I post end up there. What I want is to have control over what end up in this watched thing by flagging some threads manually.
If there's a way to achieve this with the watched feature, then I would be super happy to know how!
Quick suggestion: can we move the check box "Save a copy in my outbox" after the "Send" button? I'm used to pressing tab space to post, and a lot of the time, I accidentally uncheck that box.
Not really a GH feature request, maybe email SP?

PUHLEASE...
;D
The people over at SP are pretty nice actually. I'm sure if there was any problem, you could ask to see if a payment had been made, in case there was any doubt.

What are the chances of getting a shout box feature added??

If I have a thread on notify I'll get email when a new comment is posted.
I'd like to also get email when an existing post is edited, maybe have an option in my account settings for this if someone doesn't want that.

I edit my Classifieds post a few times when I change it, to make sure all formatting shows up properly. Do you want to receive 5 e-mails for that? Just demonstrating a potential culprit to that idea. Unless some intelligent filtering system is also implemented (like only send one e-mail for any changes made within half an hour of the first change).
How about an option in search for searching by thread starter?
The input is a user name and the result would be the set of all of the initial posts (thread starts) made by that user? We don't need/want to return all replies/quotes under the initial post: would be too many... just the first page.
This would be very helpful for secret santa: I could find out what my giftee really wants pretty easily.
This would also go some way toward reducing the necessity of bumps: if it's easy for me to find a WTS/WTB/WTT thread for a particular user I'm not going to care what page it currently shows up on the classified subforum.
Cheers,
K

Would it be possible to have threads where posts don't count distinguished in some way?

A feature like that would only show non-participating spammers where to post their spam.
At least as it is now, they post in the uncounted areas, their post count does not go up, they become discouraged and leave.
I honestly don't understand why post count is such a big deal. I mean anyone with over 60 posts, or whatever a set limit for the Classifieds could be, does not get a benefit from post count, technically. So other than a philosophical discussion about it, does it really matter that one has more posts? Post count doesn't mean increased respect level or seniority level, because there are always people who contribute great information and only have like 200 posts. Also people who post infrequently and prefer to read more instead of posting a lot about off-topic stuff. So you can have a person with 1000 posts who's been here for 3 months or a person with 900 posts who's been here for 2 years. I'm just curious why it keeps coming up as an issue?
Personally, I see it like this. If you weigh the positives and negatives from counting posts everywhere, this is how it is:
- + count does lead to some people obsessing over as high numbers as they can get - not a good thing for a forum, so I consider it a negative.
- 0 count is implemented with the idea that it will force people to post something more constructive in areas actually pertaining to keyboards rather than off-topic chatter (that could technically take place on ANY forum--doesn't need to be GH, which is a keyboard/peripheral-centered site) - this is a potential benefit to for the community
- 0 count is implemented so that people have to contribute something to keyboard/peripheral discussion (to the community) before they can post on the Classifieds. I know there's criticism of that system as well, but anyway, it's currently in place, and not counting posts in certain areas works well for that purpose. - this is a potential benefit to the community.
- 0 count leads to some complaints for a small % of forum population that wants to have all their posts recorded - this is a negative for that small subset of people
So if you look at it from that perspective, the way it is now is actually with some constructive goals in mind. Doesn't mean it can't change, but it would be done with the benefit of the community in mind if so.
I went over that too in the post you said you couldn't read. Sadly post count DOES matter to some percent of the users, to the point where they WILL post as much as possible just to get it up higher. Which off-topic discussions are perfect for. So not getting points for useless posts is removing at least some incentive for those posts to happen.
It is true post count means absolutely nothing when it comes to respect, seniority etc, etc but if some of us take the time and effort to post a gazillion times a day it should at least count, sure some of it maybe crap or most of it at times but surely some nuggets are there.
The point I'm making is post count really doesn't matter, surely I've proven that by now, so why limit it?

It isn't the count, it's the content. Your post count matters, but it isn't necessarily about how large the number is. It's a pretty good way to determine signal to noise though...
So lets show on topic post count and off topic post count on two different lines in peoples avatars that is a good idea jwaz.
We should have some system implemented where you can give a point to a good comment and take a point from a bad comment and then you can aggregate all these points into a total "score" type thing. I read it somewhere about this, idk if this would work though.

no.
This is like the xda developer forums "thanks"
single posts can be thanked and each user gets a max ability to thank 8 posts.
each user gets a thanks score based on the amount of posts that people thanked them for.

But then you have to be careful in which thread you are commenting, hate the circle jerk thing going on in other forums and that is exactly what the up and down vote would bring. We should have some system implemented where you can give a point to a good comment and take a point from a bad comment and then you can aggregate all these points into a total "score" type thing. People hold grudges and will just take points to be ****s.
The one thing I want is for OPs to have control of their threads other than locking.
I have tossed around a "like" feature. On other forums that I've frequented, these sorts of things can be abused when they allow "dislikes", but a positive-only system is not out of the question. It can still be abused to some degree, but maybe the benefits outweigh the costs. Hard to say...
Simple solution: rename "Post Count" to "Contribution Count" or whatever else to be precise. Because "contribution" is really in a loose sense an addition to the forum, it needs not to only be seen in the constructive beneficial way. But define posts in the Keyboards / related sections to be "contributing" to the keyboard/related nature of this forum.
no.
I should be a featured mod. That counts as a feature request right?

oh it can be abused....then you get hit clubs in off topic who set up a roster and like each other every day and eventually have huge amounts of fake likes
also rkinze good to see you around :thumb:
Here's something to consider: would it be good to implement yet another system of post distinctions that some would like and others would find a major problem with? Invariably, there will be complaints and threads saying "this new system is so unfair, let's change it in some way". Look at how much random criticism something so very simple as Star icons have gotten. Some pointedly don't get stars, some argue that stars are stupid. "Someone with who's been here for only a short time should not be called an 'elder'", etc. It's such a simple system, with voluntary participation, and yet even that was grounds for complaints.
Let's face it, GeekHackers love to complain :) So a system that's as simple as possible is probably best.
A reputation-based system would not work as well because it would require members to actually provide feedback on everything. And feedbacks could too easily be abused by getting all your friends to upvote your post, or downvote someone else's.
The existing post-count-based system vaguely works - those with only a few posts are PROBABLY new (a quick look at their profile, if it really matters, will reveal when they joined), whilst those with a larger post count have either been here a long time and/or post quite frequently.
Should this be moved into a separate discussion so as not to pollute this general feature request thread?
Anyway, post count is only really used to judge the reliability of members who start GBs, or who want to buy/sell/trade something in Classifieds.

I think it would be worthwhile to note length of membership under post count, just so people can quickly see how long someone has been a member.

I didn't know that anyone actually used the native "spoiler" tags SMF.
Would it be possible in the software to have a "Timeline" link at the top, like Tapatalk has? Basically like the "Spy" feature, but doesn't update, and has multiple pages of contents. Also "Subscribed" which is like "Watched" but includes already read threads.
I currently use "Unread" and "Watched" mostly, but I'd like to see Timeline and Subscribed features, where even read threads show up there.
Not sure if this has been said before, but I think it would be nice if when you clicked on a link in the Spy utility, it took you to the last page of the thread.

it does....click on the left
or you can go to the options and make the replies go in oposite order thus the newest is on top

It'd be nice to know who closed a thread. Sometimes it's hard to tell if a mod closed it or if the OP closed it. Or is there a way and I'm just missing it?

Non-mod topic hiding?
That UCSB killer thread is bothering me, and I want to hide it so I don't see it.
Is there a way to have your title edited? I'm guessing it's just a Mod thing that gets changed between a stock set of things, or can I request to change it somewhere?

Be careful what you wish for on this topic. You won't have much if any say in the matter.

You're the one who asked for a random title melvang!
Since we can't seem to get the multiple thread issues fixed can we have like a 2 or 3 minute limit between starting threads or something? Not sure if this is possible.

Here me out,
Lets say i wanna take Manny Pacquiao to win in the upcoming fight against Floyd Mayweather. I want to bet a depth black CC skull. I make a post for the event and what im betting, hash out offers through pm's on people taking Mayweather and they have to put up something i feel is equal. Than have the wager posted...
Something like
Floyd Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao May 2nd
punksdead (Pacquiao) - depth black cc
Xxxxxxx (Mayweather) - f2 yellow cc
Loser must ship out prize after event.
Doesnt have to be sport related wagering either, MLG matches, anything that would peak interest.

I know it has been changed recently, but I would love to see less posts on one page in a thread.
Sometimes it just loads very long, depending on the internet connection and other things like browser, device, thread content, etc. At home on my PC it is fine, we have a fast connection (150 mbit/sec), but at work, on the countryside, mobile it is sometimes too much. Especially the image boards are sometimes not usable for me, and due to loading I oversee images posted earlier, and see them then later and thought like 'wow I've missed something'.

Would it be possible to have a section in the Forum Profile settings page that allows you to see a preview of your profile so those who are using bbcode can edit quicker?
A good idea, not not as trivial as one would expect. It will have to tied to a web service which reloads the rendered output on textarea change (well actually, after a 10 second timeout after a change).Would it be possible to have a section in the Forum Profile settings page that allows you to see a preview of your profile so those who are using bbcode can edit quicker?

Unfortunately this wouldn't have any functionality in the web browser (since the various sections to find new posts are all dependent on your having posted there, subscribed, watched, etc). However, you can tag people with @UserName and they will receive a Tapatalk notification if they're using it. I know @rowdy uses Tapatalk, for example. ;)

I don't know how much additional load it would place on the server, though
This is odd but I would love to have footnotes/endnotes.
If email notifications take over 2hrs to reach my inbox is that a geekhack issue or a client issue? It seems whatever mail server is being used to push requests is what takes forever. I'd like to request that this not take 2hrs to process.
Maybe upgrade from rant.uhhh.org too :P
This is about logout behavior. My wife and I both have our own accounts. We both have our own desktop PC, phones, but we have a shared laptop. When the wife logs me out on the laptop, it logs me out of both my desktop and my phone. Is this normal behavior or not? If this is normal behavior, is there a way to change it so that it only logs you out of that one instance? Or is this a fault of being logged into Chrome on all three of these machines?

I think this may have to do with being logged in to Chrome (with the same user account). I'll have to test this out when I get home to see if it happens to me, too.

I think this may have to do with being logged in to Chrome (with the same user account). I'll have to test this out when I get home to see if it happens to me, too.
I faced a similar frustration when I logged out on my desktop (Chrome). It also logged me out on my phone (Safari) and I had issues logging back in - had to delete the cookies/cache.
I assumed that was an isolated incident, but knowing that others are experiencing this I will pass it along to the admins.
Feature request:
-Add a search option to find literal strings including non-numerical or non-letter characters.
If I search for Z-77 (to find the KKmoon Z-77 keyboard) it finds all kind of posts but not with "Z-77" in it.
Is there a way to disable email notifications, while maintaining notifications for the tapatalk? I only see it as it all-or-nothing kind of setting when setting a thread to "notify". Being able to separate the two would be nice so my mail doesn't get spammed from clackvent replies :))
Also not sure if this is the right place to bring up, but within tapatalk being able to disable in-app pop ups would be great as well (again, probably not related to geekhack but tapatalk itself.)

If you go to Profile > Notifications, change the section titled "For topics and boards I've requested notification on, notify me:" to 'Instantly - but only for the first unread reply'.
This seems to drastically reduce the number of emails I've received for CV, but still has the Tapatalk notifications coming.
The second point you made is related to Tapatalk, nothing GH can do there :(

Can we get the proxy section in the Great Finds area updated?
I can start a thread for it sure. I will post it in the Keyboard section if that's alright with you guys? I don't really know where else it would be appropriate really.

As a sticky in classifieds (https://geekhack.org/index.php?board=59.0), maybe?
I can see that most people would want a proxy for a private sale, rather than a GB.

I think it's good in the great finds section tbh, I ask for proxies more for eBay and Amazon purchases than anything else. But It is annoying when people say CONUS only >:D

Sweet baby Jesus--post it on youtube or vimeo. If people don't want to watch the dank meme they won't have to bite a 70mb page load bullet.. plus the dankest memes these days have soundtracks

I just noticed that embedded Youtube videos lack support for the fullscreen button (example post (https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=92573.0)). It's not hidden but greyed out, becoming unclickable.
Would be useful to have for viewing videos in more detail for sure (unless it's just myself experiencing this).

That’s a YouTube thing; some videos allow it, some don’t (when embedded/linked off site). It’s the similar to how some videos can’t be played unless on YouTube.

hey here's a great feature
wouldn't it be neat if users like kmiller8 could idk, actually use the forum?
I think it will be pretty cool to have a "Request a review" thread so that for example, if one is looking at buying a product and can't seem to find a decent review on Uncle Google, One can request it here and see if any community members will be willing to do a write-up or just share their suggestions and opinions. So like the dozens of threads already where people post and say things like, 'I'm maybe buying board xyz what do people think?'
just an idea that popped up, hope that made sense. :))

This has probably been said before, but a button to 'like' a post would be nice.
That'd kill a lot of interaction.
Why this over quoting and saying "nice"?

Any thoughts about supporting emojis from here: https://www.webpagefx.com/tools/emoji-cheat-sheet/
Or are we trying to limit the number of them that are available.
The kids today seem to like them.

I would like to see the GB topics put into two parts;
1) active GB's > those that you can still join, are still active
2) production GB's > those where the actual GB stage is completed and have moved on to the production stage.
Reason; when I look through the GB topic looking for something cool 9 out of 10 times when I find something it's already completed and in the production stage.
This would mean that the IC/GB topics would be devided into 3 sections instead of 2 obviously.
So the OP just needs to update the thread Title to reflect the current situationI would like to see the GB topics put into two parts;

Agree, have had the same problem when looking for something nice to buy. As soon as the GB closes move it to a different section so people won't get their hopes up. Threads are open for months after the GB closes with the current system and it makes thing pretty confusing at times.

I've been thinking about this for awhile. Things kinda work ok around here so I haven't bothered to write it up. I do think it could be better though... my proposal would be to reduce the number of forums which would increase visibility and activity within a forum subject. It also allows good threads to not be missed because they're in a forum that most people don't visit:
Great Finds -> dont see a need for this
Member Auction Links -> realistically could just be part of regular classifieds ads
Reviews -> Should be posted in the section for what you're reviewing. Perhaps with a [REVIEW] prefix?
Ergonomics -> Post in the keyboards forum.
Other Geeky Stuff -> Its off topic.
I also have thought about the idea that we should do a separate for-sale and wanted forums to make it easier to sell through GH. Just being able to go into a forum and search for a term and get hits on people that are selling it vs. want it might make it a more popular place for people to post their stuff.
Anyway, just throwing my 2cents out there :thumb:

I was wondering when Geekhack will add support for embedding webms and other similar video alternatives to GIFs as GIFs are out of date, having issues with file size, image quality, and lack of audio support.

Thread is "feature requests" after all.
Thought I'd ask again in 2019 if there were any plans to take this forum to the current decade now that it's properly hosted. By current decade I only mean allowing embedding gifv, webm, mp4 or whatever format allows a compressed video to weigh way less than a regular gif (23 times for this one (https://imgur.com/eGIkdMb) that I can't even embed in gif format). I shouldn't have to use Vimeo or Youtube in 2019 to share silent moving pictures, if anything it's annoying for the user, especially on mobile.Yes this should be easy atleast for gifv as the current Youtube mod for SMF actually includes a gifv embedding feature, but it's disabled for whatever reason. I'll Ping MDMatt to see if he can do anything about it :)

When a post is reported the link should be removed, can be reversed later by mods if report is false. Makes spambots much less effective.Might be more effective on a "more than one report" or something. I am obviously not aware of how many times these spam threads get reported, but that would make it harder for someone to abuse this system to temporarily have legitimate threads removed.
True! Could also be a restricted feature for the non 25 posts + 2 months forums / users. I doubt that if a link was down in the keyboard forums for 6~ hours it would be that big of a deal, but could be do or die for some GBsWhen a post is reported the link should be removed, can be reversed later by mods if report is false. EDIT: Damn, I think it's not in the good thread.
Sorry if it has been already suggested.
Is it possible to split the IC and GB into two others sections?
I mean, it would be 4 sections at the end; Keyboards IC/GB and Keysets IC/GB.
They are so much of both that it could be easier to navigate (at least for me...) if there are dedicated sections for Keyboard and keyset.
I don't see any argument against that beside to time it would take. Feel free to let me know why it would not be a good idea!
Can we get the option to collapse individual replies in a thread?
This very thread has 15 pages of responses. Good forum behaviour is to read through all replies before submitting my own, to avoid duplication or repetition. So a feature to make it easier to recap a longer threads, to quickly hide tangents or diversions (or trolling) might be useful.
Can we get someone to fix the issue where emotes break when you quote them with embedded pics.
Hey guys, I figured out a fix for this.
When you quote someone just botch the quote and the emotes will work again in your post
A nice request for it would be an option similar to Notifications where you can check a box to determine whether or not you want threads that you've posted to become Watched topics.
Another would be checkboxes in the Watched tab to quickly UNWATCH threads that you don't want there instead of having to click through each one and clicking that button.
my suggestion is that there should be two separate group buy categories. one category for GBs that have ended and have moved into the manufacturing/qc/shipping phases and one category for GBs that are still going or haven't started yet.I second this
it's very frustrating when you are looking for GBs that haven't run yet or are still open, only to find ones that you really like and see that they ended a year ago.

I would like if the 'Logout' button was on the right side of the red bar, ie, not next to the spy button. I've hit the logout button so many dang times when I've meant to hit the spy button, especially when I am on my phone. Anyway, Thanks mods for all your hard work!HA. I just posted a request to fix this without even seeing your comment from all this time ago. I've done it so many times too. Simple CSS declaration will fix it up. Just need someone with access to the code :)

While we are waiting for someone with the code you can make your own tampermonkey script which automates it for you at site load. Only Drop has access to the back end at this point, so we'd need to get their attention to fix this.
Choosing to be notified only when the Thread Starter posts in the thread ? That would be a very nice feature.
As it stands we receive notifications when someone posts "I'm in" or "I like it" or worse in GB threads "I'm waiting for my product, can't it go faster?" Certainly not posts that deserve a notification when we are just waiting for an update from the person in charge.
Would be nice if posts could be sorted by the date of the first post (instead of date of last post). Would be useful for ICs as then I'd be able to see ICs in a chronological order instead of scrolling through new replies trying to remember if I've seen this IC already.
