Tough decision for me between the beige and the space grey. I ended up going beige because I figured dark grey is easier to find in other groupbuys but its hard to get nice beige colors on metal cases. I am really looking forward to the case. I know keyboardbelle does a great job with her 3d printed cases.

Awesome! In for 2.

Questions:
1. I requested both to have the apple logo cutout. I only have one apple logo however, and am not 100% sure I even want to use it, but my assumption is that the indentation could look good on its own. Do you have any photos without the logo in place so we can get an idea of what it looks like?
2. There's no harm in having the center mount even if you use Alps, right? I ordered both with it in place even though I'll be using orange Alps.

Thanks again for making this happen!

There are a few pictures of the logo.

And I used 6 posts on my personal ones. There are no compatiblity issues, it just makes it a bit more rigid. It's not better or worse, it's judt a matter of preference.

Whew, glad I caught this GB! I'm in for a beige one! Was tempted to go with space grey, but thought it would look best with the classic AEK beige. Can't wait to transplant my AEK64 into this bad boy! :thumb:

Submitted a form for a transparent one. I was planning on getting an acrylic Tofu, but this case looks too good to pass up. Quick question, is it possible to remove the stem under the space bar in addition to the center one? I like my keyboards flexy.

Being that these are 3D printed with plastic if they can't accommodate your request it would be very easy to remove with a dremel & a cutoff wheel.

I've got all my shipping logistics worked out. I should be able to begin invoicing tomorrow evening.

Invoicing will include shipping for US residents (Flat rate).

The INTL participants I will contact individually, as I will most likely overcharge and then refund the difference for shipping (Family and friends transfer, no fee) so we can get the amount right with minimal paypal fees.

Please pay your invoices ASAP so we can get to production.

All invoices are out. If you are in the GB but didn't get one, email me ASAP.

As per my standard spiel in the invoice:

Non-US customers: Please make sure your address is correct, as I am not familiar with how to structure addresses for your country. If something needs to be fixed, don't pay the invoice and email me, I can correct it. :)

If the cases do not match your order, please email me immediately and I will make the necessary changes.
The following codes are used to identify the case configuration.
YR = Apple logo & removed center post
YK = Apple logo & kept center post
NR = No apple logo & removed center post
NK = No apple logo & kept center post

As soon everyone is paid, I'll get the order submitted to Belle. I'll be bugging slow payers on Friday, and b̶r̶e̶a̶k̶i̶n̶g̶ ̶k̶n̶e̶e̶c̶a̶p̶s̶ ̶w̶i̶t̶h̶ ̶a̶ ̶b̶a̶l̶l̶-̶p̶e̶e̶n̶ ̶h̶a̶m̶m̶e̶r̶ revoking spots to people on the waitlist if they're not paid by Monday morning.

A potential R2 could happen for those that missed out. Here's your chance to get on the email list (USING BCC THIS TIME I SWEAR) when that comes around.

Definitely looking forward to whenever these ship out. Do you think that the timeline may be a bit different due to how much quicker the GB ended than what was expected?

Yeah, it's going to change. Barring any major hiccups (knock on a wooden 60% case), here is the new timeline.

Monday Feb 18 - submit order to Belle
Monday Feb 18 - printing begins

Now, I'm not sure but Belle has told me shes going to try and get her whole print farm running to get these printed, so I'd say 1-3 weeks, most likely on the lower end of that. Then they're sent to me, and I'll get them all mailed out quickly.

Invoice paid.

Will Belle be doing her custom packaging before sending to you or will you just get a stack of cases to be mailed?

I'll ask. I'd wager no, since it's a bulk order. With that being said I'm doing boxes and wrap and all that good stuff to keep them safe.

Paid my invoice last night, can't wait for this case! I was planning on straight transferring my sig build into it, but I scored a Magnavox Videowriter the other day so now I'm not sure. I think one of these cases with a brass plate full of SKCM Browns would be one hell of a build! Although on the other hand I'm not sure I want to harvest the Videowriter & I do have batches of loose oranges, damped creams, & damped whites. Decisions, decisions.... :-\

Edit: Just noticed the IC for Rd2, count me in for another one for sure if that happens! I actually wanted to grab two this first time around, but figured that would be pretty greedy with only 50 spots to go around. Also the possibility of more color options would make the wait well worth itIMO.

hey, can i ask what you are thinking of using for a plate and pcb?  i have a donor AEK board to harvest but dont have my pcb yet, i was thinking of getting HASU's when it comes back in stock, but i would be interested in a brass plate if tehre is one that supports alps.

You can get hasus plate cut from many different metals from laserboost. I still swear by the fr4 material though.

I'm not 100% sure what PCB I'll using yet TBH, either an XD60 v.3 https://www.deskcandy.xyz/shop/xd60-v30-5bjgj?category=Alps-compatible which I already have or a Hasu ALPS64 when they come back in stock if it's soon. I'm leaning toward the XD60 v.3 since I already have a ALPS64 build in the AEK layout & I'd like to do an ALPS build with a 60% WKL with split backspace layout. Although that would require me getting a plate custom cut & finding the right caps for it. For the plate I am definitely going brass though, either one custom cut for the layout I described above from Laserboost or the brass AEK plate Deskcandy has in stock right now https://www.deskcandy.xyz/shop/in-stock-12mm-aek-brass-plate?category=Alps-compatible.

Since you already have a donor AEK I would suggest going that route as the AEK caps are some of the nicest ALPS caps out there IME. For the PCB Hasu's ALPS64 is a great option, but I'm pretty sure the 60% Clueboard PCB, Paladin 64 PCB, & a few others support the AEK layout as well. So you could look for them if you do not want to wait for Hasu to restock. As far as plates go it's slim pickings for proper ALPS compatibility, I'd say either Hasu's FR4 AEK layout plate or the brass AEK plate I linked to above would be the easiest route to go with what you got. Although there is always making one on http://builder.swillkb.com/ to have custom cut if you'd prefer another material. Also there is a lot of universal 60% plates out there that support ALPS switches, but not ALPS stabilizers. I really wouldn't recommend that route unless you have a set of caps like ALPS Throwback that uses cruciform mounts for all the stabilized keys, but you can get Costar stabilizers to work with caps that have ALPS stabilizer mounts by bending your own wires.

Anyways, hope this info helps you out getting your build all together! :thumb:

Rob27shred, thanks for the long reply, so it sounds like a hasu + desk candy brass plate would be the best combo with my donor AEK?  that or i could save a few bucks by doing FR4 if i was ok with that....alright still trying to decide how fancy i wanna make this build!  can't wait to see what other people come up with!

No problem! Yes I would agree Hasu ALPS64 + Deskcandy brass AEK plate on the high end & Hasu ALPS64 + his FR4 AEK plate on the lower end would your best bet to get your build done with what you already have. :thumb: Also it is gonna be exciting to see what people come up with for their builds with these cases!

ALL ABOARD

Looks like everyone is paid up. There is still one spot left from non-payers (sorry non-conus people, INTL shipping is expensive, I get it), so if you want in, let me know. I'll be sending a fat cheque to keyboardbelle in the next few days, and she hopes to start printing on March 1st. If all goes well, I should be distributing these to you guys in the back half of March.

hey, can i ask what you are thinking of using for a plate and pcb?  i have a donor AEK board to harvest but dont have my pcb yet, i was thinking of getting HASU's when it comes back in stock, but i would be interested in a brass plate if tehre is one that supports alps.

:thumb:

Hi, would you elaborate why you decided to go for brass instead of aluminum for your Alps plate? I’m also deciding between those 2 materials..
Thanks.

As we wait for the cases to be produced I'd like to reminisce where this was around this time in 2018. This was the original model. It's come a long way.

Update:

Belle is almost done outfitting her printers for this production run, and is printing a final sample for tomorrow or Wednesday that will be rushed to me. Production will start after that (lets say Friday) and will take about a week.

I'll have pictures of those for you guys as soon as I get them.

Paid my invoice last night, can't wait for this case! I was planning on straight transferring my sig build into it, but I scored a Magnavox Videowriter the other day so now I'm not sure. Hey sorry for not getting back to you sooner. As to why I am choosing a brass plate over alum. or FR4, the main reason is because I ordered my ADK64 without a center mounting post & I like my boards to have just a little bit of flex. So I'm hoping using a brass plate will give me around the right amount of flex I'm looking for as I felt alum. or FR4 would be very flexy without the center post. Then there is the bling factor as I love the way brass plates look. The last reason would be the layout I'm most likely gonna go with will require me to have a plate custom cut so I figure why not go all out if I have to do that. Hopes this helps you make a decision! :thumb:

Belle is just putting the finishing touches on optimizing the print for beige and grey. She claims that glow and Translucent are coming out perfectly. (This means a few B-stock models that didn't use the final printing pattern, but that are otherwise perfect will be available for cheaper for those that want in)

We had to make a small adjustment on the space grey. The original stuff had a few month lead time, so we found an alternative. I think it's nicer, as it's a touch warmer. New stuff on top.

I think that new gray will look very nice with the aek caps!  I have a case that is the old gray ad there isn’t quite enough contrast for that pop.  Thanks for the update

The new grey looks much better to me! I agree with pixelpusher & think the warmer tone will go better with AEK caps. Kinda wish I had went with the grey instead of beige now seeing the change. :-\ Oh well maybe I can get lucky & grab a b-stock grey one whenever those go up for sale. The cases themselves looks like they're shaping up great! They are even thicker than I thought they'd be, I think that's gonna make for really good acoustics with these. Thanks for the update! :thumb:

I appreciate the offer, but I'll stick with beige as that is what I think should go best with AEK caps overall. Plus I got quite a few silver/gray boards so I picked beige originally to inject some other colors into my collection anyways. However I still would be highly interested in a b-stock grey case when they become available. I got plenty of ALPS switches, stabilizers, & PCBs on hand to put together two builds around these cases. :thumb:

Hi guys, another update:

I'm getting my models shipped to me right now, so I will be able to have a final look and give the go ahead for manufacturing to start using the same printing settings. Belle sent me some pics of the beige. She tried using a technique she uses on her owns cases, and it's got a retraction gap in the back next to the USB port. You can't see it when you're using the board, and it helps the printer realign so that the deviation between layers is minimized.

Tl;dr, smoother print in exchange for a little line. It's in the pictures below.

And, as always, the translucent and glow models hide the layers better since they're... well, translucent. I've got a few images of the underglow transmission in a dim room - please excuse the Miami, but its pretty uniform and bright.

Looking good! The line in the back doesn't bother me any if it gives better results overall. The top of the case looks excellent, the sides look a little rough, but I'm guessing that is pretty much unavoidable with 3D printing. I've heard you can use acetone or good ole sandpaper to smooth out 3D prints depending on the plastics used. Anybody know if either would be possible with these cases or have any experience/info on either of the processes?

Don't get me wrong I could easily live with the way the cases are looking now, I just think these cases truly have ALPS end game potential & being able to clean up the sides a bit would be a huge bonus if possible. I really believe these cases are gonna do wonders for the acoustics of any switch, but clicky & tactile SKCM ALPS in particular. IME/IMO while they might not look as cool as custom designed metal cases, thick sturdy plastic cases makes for the best & deepest sound signatures. I should mention I have yet to try a polycarb case, but given it's properties I see them performing roughly the same as most other thick plastic cases.

Also the beige is looking sharp making me glad I decided not to change my order now seeing a near final version of one. Anyways thanks for the update, really looking forward to getting mine! :thumb:

Space Grey, Translucent and Glow in the Dark are all done   And will be shipped to the distributor in the US this week :)

Classic Beige needs a few extra days, as the print settings needed some extra tweaking to get it really nice, but belle reports that they are coming out great after the extra tinkering. Those will be sent separately in a week or so when they are done as to not hold up the rest of the GB.

That means that everyone but Classic Beige buyers can expect a tracking number in about a 1-1.5 weeks, and classic beige 2-2.5 weeks.

I'm getting a few B-stocks sent to me so that I can experiment with coating and sanding for those who didn't like the 3D printed look, so I will report on those findings in this thread, so you don't have to wreck your nice new cases... I'll do that for you  :p

We're still working out how we want to do the B-stock sale, but it will be announced here for those who didn't get a chance at the GB. I should have images of defects and will have them discounted accordingly when the time comes.

Hi all,

I should be getting my cases this week, so I'll spend some time fooling around with finishing on the B-stock and have a little write up of findings.

The non-beige cases are in the hands of my distributor in CA, so we should expect those to start heading out this week.

Belle is sending the beige ones directly from her as they are printed, since they take a little longer, and last I heard she was preparing some on the weekend, so those should also start trickling out this week.

I'm excited to see what builds everyone puts in these, so pictures are appreciated so I can assemble a little portfolio of what my designs are being used for!

And as always, if you've got any questions my DMs, email, and this thread are where you can find me.

Never fear. I've got B-stock coming in hot and fast, and most likely a round 2 pretty soon.

Plus now we've optimized the printing process, which was half of this GB, so it should be super quick.

Wow! These look really smooth on top. Is your apple logo press fit, or will it need a dab of glue (was designed for the latter, I'm just curious)

The logo definitely needed a dab of glue for it to stay. But it's a pretty good fit

Do we have mail or some notifications before getting this case?

I need it since my address belongs to a forwarder

25/50, I believe that my friend in CA doing the shipping has the last 25 ready to go for Monday April 8. The first 25 just got their tracking numbers sent to them.

All 50 are out. I'm busy with finals, so tracking numbers will be gotten to you ASAP, but of course, school first. Keep the pics of finished builds coming :)

Here are some pics of mine. Orange Alps with AEK JP caps in beige, and Green Alps in the Glow in the Dark case - the glow effect is crazy nice!

I just received one "Classic Beige" and one "Space Grey". I took some quick potatoes with an old Matias build and AEK caps but they don't look nice enough to share here :P They both look very nice but I think I prefer the Classic Beige with AEK caps for a nice, clean, and classic look.

Thanks for everything!

I'm looking into it. I'm not sure if sanding is the solution, as you risk taking off the "walls" of the print (it's not 100% solid), then you could get holes. But you'd have to take off a decent amount of material, so it could be done. I plan on trying it on my old prototype this week when I have a spare half hour.

I'm also looking in to stickerbombing. Just not sure how well the adhesive will stay on the plastic since it's not super smooth.

Finally, there's always a sealant/epoxy/3D coating. These work, and they add a bit of shine. I'll see what I can acquire, it's a little bit expensive for XTC-3D, but maybe something from the hardware store will do the trick.

Nice, looking forward to your results. I was looking into XTC-3D as well but I'm not crazy about the shininess. I wonder if doing a light sand to roughen it up would work in producing a good texture.

got mine today,  typical keyboardbelle exp.  which is to say great.   there are a few finishing marks, but fine given that this is plastic and 3d printed.

i had my apple logo sticker ready and everything.  unfortunately the build i have planned for this is not ready.

i got the gid one and the charge is quite fast, but it fades quick, tried to capture it.

and great gb runner, no muss, no fuss, and showed up early!

Can you post a close up shot of the bezel? I'm wondering if everyone's is looking smooth because of imgur compression. Also how do clickies sound in there? I've never put clickies in this case

I missed this group buy... Will there be a round 2 some time in the future?

And is there a chance for:
1. Slight improvement for the upper part of the edge, e.g. even slightly more curved up?
2. Have you tried post-processing of ABS such as acetone vapour smoothing? Will the manufacturer be able to provide this option?

These boards are looking great!

B-stock is coming and R2 is very high likelihood.

These are PLA, not ABS. I may have stated that somewhere in err, so finishing methods like acetone vapour are not going to work.

As for adjusting the bezel, I'm not sure what you mean - if you can make a diagram/picture or something more descriptive I can have a look at making potential adjustments.

Like these, which is minor but it can be more perfect with iterations of revisions:

Plus one thing:
The translucent and glow-in-dark option when paired with the Paladin64 PCB is a total killer purchase for lots of Alps interested people.

Hi Reds

I ordered 3x ADKs from you and today they were delivered to the wrong address. I DM'd you on 2/24 requesting a change in shipping address which you confirmed. Can you clarify this for me?

Thanks.

Issue currently being resolved. Will update once resolved.

Update: USPS was able to locate the package and reroute it. Was received. GB runner offered to ship me new cases at his expense if I didn't receive the packages. Resolved.

Here’s one in a couple different lighting situations, you can see the bezel layers well with direct overhead lighting.

That's due to the angle. It covers the bottom when looking at it from a less extreme angle. See my IC pics.

I have a line of communication with nachie, the paladin64 creator, so I'll talk with him and see if he wants to run some more for R2.

Great if there can be more Paladin64 for more people especially those in the R2.

I saw too that in some other angles the top edge is covered better. I have two AEK (I & II) cases at home right now, and I raised this point because I recently noticed the curve of the original AEK II case is not a uniform curve: it's more like the curve steepen above the shift row, and its the steepest just above the numeral row, kind of in between the numeral row and the F key row.

I'm wondering if there is any good info out there on removing the apple logo from old boards, and gluing it to the adk64 without destroying it in the process. I'm asking around some friends of friends who have done it right now, and will post if I find anything..otherwise would like to hear from the lads in here who seem to have done it without issue

Take apart the board, and there should be a pinhole behind the logo. Just poke it out thru there, you've only gotta break a tiny bit of 30 year old glue. I've got like 5 logos out without issues.

Use a glue stick to dab a bit on when putting it on the adk for a temporary solution, hot glue for a more permanent one

This.  I learned the hard way when I scraped mine slightly trying to pry it out.  Was just smh when I saw that pin hole.  LOL.  Also, use a hairdryer on it for about 30 seconds to loosen the glue.  It comes right out.

I would absolutely love this for a regular 65% keeb and print it myself. The 3D printing texture on the final product is something I really dig as well.

When ai03 wraps up the lunar GB I'm going to bug him about using his 65% alps pcb for the ADK65. That one will need a custom plate, so I'll probably do a case + plate + pcb combo if that ever becomes a thing.

Haven't had a chance to build up the ALPS board I have planned for this case yet, but I wanted to give it a spin. So I threw my "Holy Zeals" build (V1 Zealio housings, Outemu Sky leaves, Halo stems, lubed with 3204) in it for now. It actually makes for a really good test of the acoustics since the Halo stems hitting off the Zealio housings is even louder & slightly higher pitched than Panda housings. In a KBDfans 5 degree case this build was loud, it sounded great but seriously loud even with sorbathane in the bottom. In the ADK64 it is much quieter (I do have the sorbathane in the bottom of it too), but the sounds still come through really nice. Basically it gives a nice reduction in the loudness of any sounds, but it doesn't muffle them. Pretty much exactly what I was hoping for out of this case, now I can't wait to get some brown ALPS in it! How are you guys that already have AEK builds in them feeling about the case & it's acoustics?

This would be amazing if you could offer a full kit for a 65%, although even if it's just the case you can count me in for one. I'm very happy with my ADK64! :thumb:

Hopefully everyone has gotten their stuff, and if you haven't received it in a reasonable amount of time, don't hesitate to contact me. Belle has been busy, but she hopes to have B-stock ready to sell for this weekend. As soon as we open that up, I'm considering this GB basically complete, and I'm opening an IC for R2. I don't want to divulge too much, but I'm talking with inachie about running the paladin64 PCB (Alps PCB with qmk and underglow) along with custom plates for the next round. So stay tuned for that!

Thanks everyone.

Haven't had a chance to build yet, but both boards showed up rather quickly, both in good shape and well packaged. Would def join again, thanks

As per Belle's Reddit post, B-stock should be up this week, she's just been a little swamped with her website and such. They will be $25-35 depending on the condition, and I'm still looking into ways to finish the cases, I've just been swamped with other life stuff.

Hi everyone, sorry for the delay, but the B-stock is live and ready to go.

Belle is doing inventory on the other colors now, so they should be up soon as well.

The lighting + the finish on that wood blend in so nicely with the colors of the board. Awesome setup

Nice work man! Too bad that I didn’t go back to the keyboard hobby and see this earlier. Just a quick question about the B-stock, what’s the middle riser in the options?

Alps boards dont have room for a screw between the G and H keys, so if you choose no riser, there will be some center flex. Or, some like to keep the center riser just so there is some rigidity (even though there is no where to screw in). MX boards also have a screw between G and H, so it just depends on what you're putting in there and how much flex you want.

Translucent? Or glow-in-dark?

Is there a 2-d svg for the apple logo from the print that someone could share?  I'd like to see if I can make a decal to stick in there since I don't have an actual one and my wife has a Cricut that could probably make them.

I have a model of the hole cutout somewhere, so I can use that to make a model of the original logo. They could be 3D printed in any color easily, and maybe painted (might looks sloppy unless you got warhammer 40k skillz).

I am pursuing a few leads about getting a bunch of OG logos stocked, so I'll keep the second IC updated on that as we go.

So, it looks like everyone has their cases, B-stock is selling well, and there were no major issues or delays. I think we did okay for a first GB.

Big thanks to keyboardbelle for all her help optimizing the printing and keeping such high standards of prints, this wouldn't have bee as smooth/even possible without her immense help.

Also thanks to weez for testing the prototype, handling shipping, and putting up with my incessant questions in the middle of the night :p

I guess this wraps up R1 - I hope everyone likes their cases.

Just received my b-stock without the logo and it's great. Very solid case and affordable. Also should add that the light gray case color is perfect.

Oh BTW I finally decided on using the AEK layout & caps with mine. Used a Hasu ALPS64 PCB & FR4 AEK plate with SKCM browns, man am I loving the browns! Here's the finished product,
218580-0
218582-1

I also managed to get my hands on a SGI AT101 with those sweet dye subs, so I'll eventually be putting another build for this case using an XD60 v3 PCB & a brass plate cut to match the AT101's WKL layout & weird caps switch placement.

ADK64v2 IC is live, should be on then first or second page of the IC section.

ADK64v2 has been postponed for the foreseeable future.

Is this the exact same as R1 or are there revisions?  Also, any chance of getting a plate? :)

A few minor revisions (making the lip cover tall keycaps a bit better, for one)
An Alps plate for AEK caps? May as well get a handful made.
