Removed dampeners from dampened white Alps...
« on: Fri, 25 January 2019, 00:18:57 »
I recently harvested a few Dampened White Alps from an AEK II and made a 60% with it. But, I with the itchy fingers decided to remove the rubber dampeners and click mod the leaf spring. This brought along an unintended side effect that I had not thought of. I stuck the keys back on and the switches became more wobbly. The keycaps move around a lot more than before which impeded the sound of the satisfying click of the modded click leaf.

Does this happen often or have I done something seriously wrong?

the housing for the dampened alps is designed around the slider that has the rubber dampeners. when you remove them it means there is more space top and bottom due to the space where the dampeners were so that would explain why they are more wobbly.

I see. I've always assumed that the top housings have the same tolerances on the sliders for all of them. Is there a way to reduce the wobbling without putting the dampeners back on?
