Hi GeekHack
« on: Thu, 13 September 2012, 16:36:36 »
Hey guys.

I've just started to consider a mechanical KB for my rig, this crappy membrane keyboard I found laying around is starting to really annoy me :P

I was looking at getting the Ducky Shine 2 from the Reddit group buy (if the shipped to the UK) but it looks like that's probably not happening, so I'm looking for a decent Brown(?) switch KB, maybe the KBT Pure or Race - too bad there isn't a UK layout of most keyboards.

That's it for my intro, time to get back to reading about keyboards ;)

Welcome to GH - You will probably hear a lot of votes for Blue or Brown switches.

I have 2 Brown boards, a Rosewill and a Filco.  Between those I would stick with the Filco.

Can't speak to duckys

Goodluck! You came to the right place!

Welcome to Geekhack!

If you do mostly typing, then either MX blues (clicky/tactile) or browns (silent/tactile) would be best.

I have a couple of Ducky Shines (both version 1) with MX bules, and both are solid keyboards.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Welcome to GH.

Seems like you are on the right track already. Do as much reading as you can before you end up buying 10 keyboards in a "try them all" attempt. Perhaps you can knock it down to 5 that way. ;)
My wife I a also push her button . But now she have her button push by a different men. So I buy a keyboard a mechanicale, she a reliable like a Fiat.

Haha,  I wish I had enough money to try out 2 keyboards,  let alone 5 or 10

You'll find that the US ANSI layout is much better than the UK ISO layout.

Ahahahahahaha.

Welcome to GeekHack. Theres KeyboardCo who have Filcos in the UK layout. and WASDKeyboards who just got those ISO layouts. And Im guessing there exists a quickfire with ISO layout too.
