I am ISO user so add on added. Ordered Olivette :) Going to get that light blue one in round 2 aswell! Then red on white. Each of my options is in a different round haha! 3*postage wooooo! Still good enough price to do so!

I inquired taihao and they said they couldn't provide the real window logo due to copyright problem
So I asked for a blank one
Edit: I just realized the one in the OP doesn't have the "tails" coming off of the four squares. So I guess it isn't an exact replica of the Windows logo.

I personally would rather have the ugly one than blank, but I understand if people did not want it. Do you think they would include both the fake windows logo and a blank key without raising the price?

Doubleshot: def ABS. PBT doubleshot always has bleeding problems.
The MOQ ist separate for each color, you can't add them. ;)
A few quick questions before I order - I am ordering anyway but trying to get a friend on board, they need some info/clarificationApologies if these have been asked already, I am at work and just skimmed through quickly. Feel free to ignore any repeats and I will edit them out when I get home and ready the thread properly :thumb:
- I presume where R1 is mentioned it relates to bottom row and ZXCV. And R2 is home row? I am fairly certain this is the case :)
- Does the ISO enter have a legend? I am assuming all additional shift/ctrl/alts have legends too.
- Are the spacebars universal?
I am pretty interested in the White on Red and Red on White sets for the Red Scarf II.
Would i have to buy into Round 1 (like a Dolch set) before i was able to buy into the other colorways?

Made some calculations from current 110 orders.
If the target MOQ is 300 then that MOQ for Dolch ANSI would be met with approximate amount of 303 total orders. MOQ for Granite ANSI would be met with approximate amount of 478 total orders. MOQ for Olivette ANSI would be met with approximate amount of 500 total orders.
Estimated how many orders we need to reach 4.5$ tier for each add-on pack then? With current order rate Dolch add-on would hit the ultimate target when total of 423 orders have been made. Granite add-on would need approximate amount of 717 total orders and Olivette add-on 767.
So I think 500 orders total would be good goal (to start with at least). Make sure you advertise this in deskthority (LOTS of ISO users) and other places all over the internet.

They're indeed doubleshot but they're OEM profile and not much thicker than regular ABS keycaps. Think Signature Plastic's DCS profile but taller.

Not sure where the conflict begins, but just FYI, doubleshot keycaps can be thin. The doubleshot legend plastic is probably just in the top part of the keycap, not on the sides, resulting in thin keycaps.

Could anyone enlighten me as to what we would do if the AddOn pack for a set somehow hits its MOQ of 100 but the base set doesn't reach 300? I wouldn't really want an add-on pack without the base set.

Some people might bash me for saying this so I will disclaim that this is purely my personal subjective opinion, but I don't think the difference is that extreme. I went from stock QFR kepcaps and ducky shine stock abs keycaps to poker thick pbt and honestly its not a day and night experience. Sure the texture is a little more tactile on pbt and the sound is slightly lower pitched than abs but definitely does not make abs feel cheap.
The tai haos are double shots and some of their colors are quite thick in the previous generations (not gmk thick) and would definitely feel more substantial than stock abs.
Shine however is a separate matter from feel, depending on your body composition and how oily your hands are, abs will develop shine with use and this is generally not perceived to be desirable.
Personally I have never had a problem with shiny keys, I never eat while using my keyboards.
Maybe tthe messaging needs to be blunter.
If you want the earlier-generation colours, they're being HELD HOSTAGE until the fourth-gen sets hit MOQ. The only way to release them is to buy more fourth-gen sets or harass your friends, neighbours, etc. into doing so.
Everyone who's been holding out: How badly do you want the Azure set? Buy an Olivette or Granite set to show your commitment.
I don't want to open pandora's box but just putting an idea out there.
What if, in the worse case scenario, we don't meet moq for any of the base sets? Would you close off the less popular options and leave the most popular, which looks like dolch for the time being. Would you let people change their orders so we get at least one set to moq?
I ordered one of each set and would love to have all three reach moq. But if closer to the closing date and one of the sets clearly isn't going to make it, I wouldn't mind changing my order to help another set reach moq/next pricing tier.
Still another 11 days till the GB closes.

As much as I want an Add-On pack, paying $13.50 for three sets is beyond what I want (one or two sets maybe, but three is pushing my budget a bit).

would only make sense if its off center for cherry/Korean boards, that's why there is full touch capslock for standard mainstream boards

if the stepped capslock is center stemmed then the Tsangan kit that's in the add on makes no sense at all to have..... I ordered 1 of each full sets and add ons, but the way I see this goes that add on might not make it, then Capslock might be center stemmed..... Looks to me that I'll be dropping off, if I cant have complete set to use with standard and Korean board, then there is no worth ordering at all.
Elton almost had it right with his GB, the only thing he was missing was the off center stepped CapsLock and the x7 spacebars stems were not properly aligned for Cherry/Korean board. If this GB do not have off center CL, or add ons don't make I'll just wait till one day someone organizes proper GB with all keys included.

2. I understand that add on has the 1.5 mods, but does it have the x1 2 keys also for cheat layout? I saw it says 2 keys x1, just hoping they are R4 to go in between the 1.5 mods?

It seems like there is a pretty good chance we won't reach stage 2, AMD even if we do, it seems like we will have a hard time hitting MOQ for it.
1) it's an off centre caps lock. Cherry ones. Make no sense for a centred stem stepped capslock for oem caps
2) it includes 2 1x r1 caps that suits the cheat board, just pick up the add on pack
3) taihao had they 7x space stem problem fixed last Korean gb, as Elton had mentioned
4) EVERYTHING SHOULD be ending on 31st. It's probably not moving onto the next stage unless the MOQ of stage one suddenly met...but the deadline was set by me so if more time is needed we keep this gb for a longer time

I am still in disbelief at the current order quantities. I realise Ivan has the other GB going on but:
1) These are still insanely cheap.
2) So many people ordered in the first GB with Elton.
3) So many people missed out in the first round and were really upset - now's your chance!!
4) The colour options are better than the first round.
5) These sets are so much more flexible, given the availability of both kinds of caps lock and the add-on packs.

They're doubleshot. Meaning the legends last forever, if that's what you're asking lol. They never fade
ABS caps are said to become shiny fairly quickly, espe+cially if the user has acid fingers and the board is heavily used, but the legends can't fade on doubleshot caps.

last time I looked at the google doc, dolch was close to 300 and the dolch addon was close to 150. And if, for some reason, the granite or olivetti falls through, I am sure at least some people will change their order to include more dolch. I know I will.

Almost none - Tai hao would need to create a special mold for it, and unless they had at the very, very least MOQ orders for it, they would be unlikely to comply.
However if anyone is so inclined it would not hurt to ask ;)

Yeah, this really bothered me with the Round 1 sets from Elton's GB. For me it looks incomplete if some keys have legends and others don't. But I still prefer a blank key over this awkward pseudo Win Logo.
A star would be a good compromise, but I am afraid it's too late for that. It would increase costs as well...

I think this is brilliant. Force us to buy in multiples until the MOQ is met. However, people that ordered more than one add-on set already should resist the temptation to lower their order number because they know they're getting 2 or 3 sets out of one order.
Actually, if I knew I was buying multiple add-ons, it would just make me buy more base sets probably. I'm also looking down the road and I expect there will be a market for these when the GB finally ships.

I know the CM Ultimate has a stupid bottom row layout; I ordered one Granite base set and and add-on pack for a CM rapid I have laying around still with the ugly stock key caps, anyone know what size the odd key caps on the bottom of the ultimate are? I wonder if i can fit one of this sets on it...haha I'll have to wait and see :))

Sorry I want to get in on this group buy but im a little confused about how add-on pack tiers work. Currently only 107 dolch add-ons have been ordered, but about 200 total add ons packs have been ordered. If I want a dolch add on pack, am I paying for the 100-tier or the 200-tier?

TaiHao doesn't have all the molds needed for Ergodox. Besides that I highly doubt that an Ergodox Kit could reach MOQ.Don't think that any special molds are really needed.

If you like the Granite better please order it. Personaly I'd rather see the Olivette and Granite sets reach MOQ than the Dolch. There are already tones of Dolch sets out there (from SP and the GMK group buy).

Next time I suggest you just include the addon packs with the base sets.This was discussed in the IC but the ANSI users just weren't ready to pay extra for sake of 'marginal' ISO users. 4$ makes a big percentage in 15$.
If it reaches MOQ it would still be less than $20 for a complete set, which is 1/5 of the price of other base+color sets.
I think that would be much easier to manage.

I know we were discussing this earlier in the thread, but I don't think we ever reached a conclusion - if we were hypothetically in tier 1 for add-ons, there would still be 300 add-ons ordered right? (13.5*100 vs 4.5*300). Does that just mean each person would get 3 add-on packs instead?

I've put an order in for 1 dolche set and 1 add on. I would prefer the granite caps but I'm not sure if they will be even be made.
There's so much talk of MOQ numbers in this thread I'm not sure if I should order the granite instead. Does anybody know if the granite and add ons will be made?

If you like the Granite better please order it. Personaly I'd rather see the Olivette and Granite sets reach MOQ than the Dolch. There are already tones of Dolch sets out there (from SP and the GMK group buy).

If it's not cheaper than 13,50$ per kit, it would make more sense to order 3x AddOn for 4,50$ each.
If slightly raised means 4,50$ + X that would be great. In that case I might order an AddOn kit for every base set :)
You also have to keep in mind shipping costs for extra addon kits.

Yea the taihao caps are miserably thin D:
Hm... I wouldn't go so far as to say miserably thin. The white on black TaiHao ones are noticeably thinner than the colored ones, but the red on white and white on red that I am currently using are decently thick, thicker than majority of stock keycaps. Especially considering the $22-25 dollar price, I miserable is a bit of an exaggeration :p
In terms of ABS caps I reckon the Tai Hao are quite reasonable :thumb:This.

I don't think it would make any different in this case because paypal only "protect" your purchase within 60 days, I believe from the day you paid to the day you receive the keycaps. It must be more then 60 days. If he is going to run away, selecting goods rather then services won't protect us at all.

Taihao's reason, says in the email, is that they have to start manufacturing together with some other orders.
That is, they're not going to turn on the machines and order the raw materials just for a few hundred ANSI sets and Add-ons.
And the spreadsheet is to confirm order with me, not with taihao.
If anyone can't pay I'd be interested in taking over the cost of a Dolch set :v

I've informed Harry that I'm willing to be a buyer of last resort and buy 1-2 of each set, any color, at the same group buy price if anybody backs out.
I did not submit an order because I don't need more keycaps. These are just nice to haves for me. My offer is basically to help people if they change their minds, and to prevent the GB organizer from losing money on unpaid sets.

If you look at the updated order form, of the 1st 10 people who signed up, about 1/2 haven't paid yet. tsk tsk.
Its easier to manage group buys if people pay in advance in order to get on the list instead of having to chase payments.

I agree with you, but as of now there are about 80 unpaid orders. A firm deadline carries the risk of the GB not happening.
IMO a firm deadline would be good for the last 20-30 unpaid orders.

This not a criticism of Harry, far from it, I'm grateful for his efforts in putting this together, and he can hardly be held responsible for people not paying - it's just marring the experience of my first ever GB.

Depends. One thing that GBs will teach you is to learn patience. Unforeseen circumstances will appear - issues with plastic quality appeared in Ivan's black PBT group buy, douches filing complaints in Paypal for not receiving Brobots slowed down Toxic, and complications just tend to arise. Either way, you learn to make do with what you have and treat shipments like Christmas.
I haven't been here terribly long either - perhaps some more experienced members can refute some of my points or offer nice counterexamples in favor of group buys.

It's interesting that there isn't a platform engineered for this specific thing.
It's not just keycaps-- I'm sure there are plenty of communities that do group buys for items that fit certain market criteria (requires a specific run size, only sold commercially in far-larger-than-any-one-person-can-use packages, not easily available in the country of demand so it's worth ordering a truckload)
There's simply no way to blacklist such users who simply do not pay unless it's the same GB coordinator.

It's still a manual ban where you have to filter through a list of yours with blacklisted users. It's just an extra step which takes up time away from the GB which should not be happening in the first place.
Thanks Harry for taking all this time to coordinate this. This is by no means an easy GB with users literally across various continents. Kudos to the few other helpful members who are chasing on the payments. There's simply no way to blacklist such users who simply do not pay unless it's the same GB coordinator.

Harry said 2 weeks ago that he would give orders another week-1.5 weeks for payment before they are canceled. So that deadline has passed. This and what will happen to the Olivetti, as we needed to meet the MOQ and if the Olivetti will be reduced even further I doubt TaiHao wants to make them as it may be not profitable enough anymore? Olivetti was already hard to get to a high number of orders.

It's not reasonable to wait more given that it has been a month and the MOQs have been successfully hit anyway. I have sent the numbers to taihao and am waiting for their reply. Let's look forward to it!

Proper decision... but still more be patient to wait for good news from TH.

Harry must publicize the names of all defaulters. If they can screw up his GB they definitely can screw up other people's. And some people's buys involve casings costing $200 so it really hurts the organizer when even one person drops.
I urge starting a thread dedicated to listing such scummy names.
If I'm getting the right vibe, I think he is somewhat right. Because it is really bad if ppl order and order and then dropout without any notice. When you pm the OP and explain why you cant pay there will always come a solution where both parties will be happy. But not saying a word and than leaving open orders is putting a lot of pressure on the OP who organizes the GB and shipping for us. We can sit back, pay and play the wait game ^^

I would like to clarify that I was not at all trying to call anyone out. I meant that I was concerned for the sake of the GB numbers reaching MOQ. No pitchforks here. I have had to back out of GBs myself.
Got the reply from taihao and our order has been finalised.
Please be noted that dropping out at the stage is not possible unless one has found another person to buy his order.

You have a lot to learn. With any group buy, you have to be patient. You also need to follow the direction of the organizer when it comes to things like payments, refunds, etc.
Filing a Paypal dispute, especially when the organizer has already instructed you how to go about sellling your order, is the worst kind of douchebaggery. When you make a commitment to a group buy, you need to honor your commitment. No one will have sympathy on you, nor care about your excuses.
For me personally, you are now blacklisted from any sales or group buys I run, now or in the future.

Committing and then disappearing is really bad behaviour, but opening a Paypal dispute is even worse in my opinion, because with the annoyingly random practices of PayPal this can sometimes, depending on the status of the GB, freeze the funds of the whole group buy for an unforseeable amount of time, not to mention the hoops that the GB organizer may have to jump through to make it clear to them once again what a group buy is.
So to do that is just despicably egoistic, you're basically taking the whole GB hostage.
Let's give the gentleman a break.
Due credits paid, he's the first to pay in this groupbuy (I can confirm this). And indeed this groupbuy has been taking longer than first expected... The gentleman is right in this respect. Although it can be argued that when you commit to a groupbuy you expect that you have to wait for a while but you never know what happens in life and sometimes in an emergency you may need extra funds.
Personally I think the people who gave no response to the invoice are more responsible for hindering the groupbuy. Dropping out is fine, as said, sometimes people may need extra funds, or may lose interests in the sets after having been kept waiting for long. But no response...

In some the modifiers are black, others they are more grey. Also the common keys range from grey to brownish-grey/tan colour.
The Granite sets also differ from pictures shown in the OP (http://i.imgur.com/7UurqL9.jpg) to ones shown on Massdrop (http://i.imgur.com/qXgD3l8.jpg).

we should not start with another GB till this one is fully over as in all sets are delivered and people received them. Now on another hand running IC ahead of time for 2nd phase is nice thing to do cause we will know which color sets have gained more interest.

it was partly on my suggestion that Harry is running IC and planned group buys in stages. :thumb:
By being able to tell beforehand what is covered by group buy and when, we don't run the risk of exhausting all buying power. Sometimes people take part in GB just because they think they can't get anything else, then they run out of money by the time their dream set shows up in a group buy. Or else someone starts a new GB that they prefer more causing them to back out of prior buys that they'd committed themselves to.

Sorry, if I came of a bit harsh, but I can't understand why people join GBs and don't have the funds for it.
I mean we are talking about 15$ sets here and not 500$ korean custom keyboards...

I went nuts right off the bat and ended up having to resell half my collection 6 months later.

But probably we can't do Azure because it's a customised colour by Originative, um...

Nobody knows the HUGE effort involved in sorting, packaging and posting key-sets to everyone around the globe. Since poor Harry is doing it on his own and is not paid to do it in the first place.
People all think that all these Group Buys are covered by cost when it comes to sorting and packing (might be with PMK only) but outside PMK, it's not.
Hence thanks for giving us all a glimpse of how much misery you have to put up with when sending out everyone's orders :thumb: .

If anyone running a Group Buy dares ask for a bit of extra money to make things easier in processing the packaging and sorting you'll get those that will whinge and complain. I remembered in the past a few tried asking for some small amount of money but they got flamed in their sections by those rotten bags of sh1t 8) . Hence being a Group Buy organizer is truly a thankless task because no one will ever understand the shear amount of work in sorting, packaging and then moving all those boxes down to your local Post Office for shipment.
I for one will be glad to hand over more money during the order process to help out the Group Buy Organizer. So should everyone else, it's the decency that's required here and has to be supplied if everyone wants Group Buys to continue here on Geekhack.

I'll probably get mine last, since I asked Harry to give me the lowest priority. That way the people more likely to bug him get served first.
Speaking of which, if you guys looked at the order form, it will show that Harry bought more than 50 add on sets although he only bought a few regular sets. Looks like he was paying for more add ons just to help us meet MOQ!
If I didn't already 'not need' this group buy (since I am only using 1x1 keys Matrix layout now, but bought 4 sets with add ons anyway to help), I would have been happy to help buy a few extra add on packs. Guys, if any of you think you might use a different layout in future, why not message Harry and buy a few add on packs off him? The price is good, lets keep it that way and keep the Tai Hao group buys running smoothly! I don't want Harry's pocket to get hurt like this!

The modifiers in that Massdrop group buy are awfully dark, practically black...is that the exact same keyset as this one in terms of color??
Fairly certain for the 'granite' set the modifiers are supposed to be black, just like the photo in the OP of this thread. The 'dolch' mods would be a dark gray.
Sorry, I was talking about Dolch. I should have been more clear since I forgot this GB includes Granite and Olivetti as well.
This is the picture I saw on Massdrop. (http://i.imgur.com/aE3kn5h.jpg) The modifiers looks very dark, almost black--quite a bit darker than I thought they looked in the OP of this thread. Maybe it's just the lighting in Harry's picture. But I thought they would be closer to a dark gray rather than black.
Oh yeah those do look black. Perhaps someone who has a set can chime in. Normally I would have thought 'dolch' would have had dark gray mods not black but I'm not sure how Tai Hao does it after looking at those pics.
I am confused by this as well. I've found pictures of conflicting looking colours used on the Dolch set

In some the modifiers are black, others they are more grey. Also the common keys range from grey to brownish-grey/tan colour.
The Granite sets also differ from pictures shown in the OP (http://i.imgur.com/7UurqL9.jpg) to ones shown on Massdrop (http://i.imgur.com/qXgD3l8.jpg).
It's just different lighting conditions when the photos are taken. They are the same set with the same colors. They are lighter grey and dark grey. Definitely not black modifiers. Dark grey, like the original Dolch sets made by Cherry/GMK.
The third image you posted are GMK manufactured, sold by Originative.

Pushing for early shipment is bad, I agree. But I don't think most of us would mind an update because the shipping statuses on the Final Confirmation spreadsheet haven't been updated past 98/~280 orders shipped in over a week.

Received the sets some 2-3 days a go but didn't got to inspect them because the keyboard has been having constant chatter on at least 20 keys for the past 6 months. So receiving the sets was welcomed because I got to take care of everything. I end up disassembling the keyboard, removing the top covers from the switches, blowing everything with my compressor and putting all back together and replacing the GMK Dolch with the TH Beige keys. I like the keys, big fan of them every since the 1st GB.

go up there and they can't find the package.

harry has nothing to do with this problem, you have to figure out with the post office before asking Harry for any type of refund or replacement. Not trying to be negative, whats right is right..

And this was the only way to get the extra keys included in the add-on packs (which weren't available on MD).
No one expected the wait to be so long but **** happens. Nothing we can do about it. All we can do is hope Harry gets the rest of the orders shipped out as soon as possible.

If you guys are this frustrated already, I would not suggest entering any GBs by the folks over at Deskthority. I think the Round 5 Honey Sphericals is still going on 1+ yrs later :eek:

I don't care if this makes him ship faster or slower, I care about speaking my mind. Forgive me if I don't beg at his feet that he sends me my $25 keycap set. $25 is my fee for thinking this is a good place to buy things. I can live with that, lesson learned, last time I waste $25 on this website

What I have done/been doing in the past 5 month since the shipment has arrived.
1.) as a college student studying civil engineering, i study quite hard, for job, which i guess is reasonable. I am also the class representative
2.) as the president of civil engineering society since last march, my work is to make products, set up events and contact guest speakers for talks and so for my schoolmates
we are the very first session of committee, and i as the president have to set up rules and constitutions and forward looking plans
3.) as the chairman of the Student Union Council since last june, acting executive committee since september, (as the original ex-co was dissolved due to insufficient member which violates our constitution)
we have routine works managing all the student organizations and communicating with the school administrative staffs about our student's needs, plus minor matters everyday
and since November I have been preparing for the new session of General Election which will take place on coming Monday and Tuesday.
4.) as a research assistant working for my professor since Feb 2014 and the topic we are working on is "Material Life Cycle of Highway"
with the above duties I usually stay at school from 0900 to around 1800, which is totally clashing the opening hour of the post office.
I thought I had the chance to finish the packaging during Christmas, but I was wrong as I had to finish my reports alone cuz all my groupmates are ****ing free riders.
During the semester break, I was named to go Japan as an exchange student.
I didn't know about this until early December and I had to prepare for it in a rush
At the beginning of the shipment, all the keycaps are store in another industrial building away from my home
and now i have moved the rest to my flat, so that i can do the packaging during the night
My duty as president and chairman shall be shifted to the next session of members after next week
and I hope that by then i can finish them in a month
I am working on shipments bit by bit
and i suppose i could finish 90% of them before the end of march (or mid april, just in case i got any sudden duties.....)
finally, sorry again for what has happened in this GB.
Edit: To add a bit of local perspective to the post above, and this is purely conjecture on my part, a lot of people involved with student council work would have been highly disrupted by the multi-month democracy protests that took place late last year in HK. I'm not sure how much of this made it into the news in the West, but there was a lot of heavy political **** going down here October-December, and student organisations were a key part of it. Not trying to say that Harry would have been directly involved in this directly, but if he's on a student body he would at the least have been dealing with the fallout of it.There is a certainly a very justifiable possibility... A lot of my friends, floormates, and hallmates from the University of Hong Kong were involved in those protests and at the time, I was very concerned for their safety and well being. These rallies were pretty intense, as far as I could tell from the pictures they have shared with me.

I completely understand your frustration however most items done in group buys would never be able to be purchased otherwise. And yes there have been pure out scams done in years past but for the most part group buys almost always deliver.
It is a fact of life group buys almost always get delayed for a myriad of reasons but things tend to work out in the end. I have at least $1000 or more out on group buys right now that have yet to be delivered (some with absolutely no time frame either!) but I'm not concerned, its just a waiting game.
What you see here with Harry is someone who really wanted to help the community get something that at the time was new and not widely available, yes he obviously got in over his head but again this is not some store or some business we buy from it is a community member who takes there own time to organize and fulfill items that it takes a group to be able to get.
Communication and expectations are two things I believe need to be the cornerstones of group buys, unfortunately that doesn't always happen.
But being nasty, condescending and an outright jerk won't get you anywhere.

- CAVEAT EMPTOR (https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=36773.0) - Did you read the rules before you participated, or did you assume this was a marketplace with no purpose beyond purchasing goods?
- You can type out your swears. We have a swear filter.
- The Group Buy format has inherent risk. We all know this and accept that risk when we join. That does not make it okay for someone to steal money, but that's not what's going on here. This is a volunteer-run effort, and is not guaranteed to be executed perfectly and to a rigid schedule. Communication has been adequate and shipping is in progress, so I'm not sure what you're afraid of here.
- You mentioned wanting to run a Group Buy and steal our money. That's exceedingly mature of you, thank you for that. For the record, we do some pre-screening of Group Buys before they are approved on the site. Caveat Emptor still applies, but we do our best to give the best experience we can. Your Group Buy would not be approved. ;)

It has been my worst buying experience ever, in my life, for anything. Ive probably been robbed. This all comes down to the willingness of people to throw money at something without first asking questions and verifying anything.
I mean look at the two recent brand new guys who have shown up offering a new 1800 style board people are throwing money at them (or at least willing to) without any real proof or history etc. I predict we will see yet another buy that gets so big then takes longer than proposed etc.

There's really no way to prevent this without banning GBs. Or requiring that only vendors can run GBs, and must be legitimate businesses. The GB format has inherent risk and there's no way to change that. You're literally gifting money to people on the internet that are promising you goods in return. Yes, it's crazy, but it's the only way to acquire these goods, so we do it.

Though I would like to see a few changes in the GB system. Maybe a mandatory post in the OP that says something like "all money invested in a group buy is a risk, and all deadlines promised by the organizer are subject to change" etc etc.
I get why GH can't do much about buys gone wrong, but I feel like GH could do a better job of conveying the risk and realistic expectations to potential buyers.

Thats good. Maybe talk to some of the guys on here that have run some of these and get the details of what all they have to do to get the buys done.
I've done some GB's myself ( not on GH ) but those were usually just buy in bulk to save money and not custom small scale production runs.

If you check my tracking number its working fine although they seem to overwrite the older info when something new is put on example, last night 9/3/15 the tracking was Parcel ready to be dispatched from HK, now it shows as 10/3/15 Parcel dispatched from HK so it is working they just seem to remove the older details otherwise I'll let you know once it hits royal mail post
If it's being sent by registered HK Post (vs a courier), I've found the tracking numbers don't work. I'm not sure what they're even used for... possibly some very manual form of tracking in case packages are reported as lost.
I'd be interested to hear if anyone does have HK Post registered mail and can see tracking information.

I've encountered this problem with the taihao keycaps as well. Haven't tried anything yet for fear of destroying my keycaps or stems. Any recommendations anyone?

No, that's simply not true.
The set on Massdrop is more expensive and has less keys than this GB. With Massdrop you get this ****ing ugly Win key and not the nice new legend we get in Harry's GB.
Besides that there are no Tsangang and ISO keys in the Massdrop set. I gladly waited longer to get all these keys :thumb:
Harry commented that he'd be shipping more out on the 10th/11th, so I wouldn't expect to hear from him until after then, at which point he can let us know how many went out and for whom.

I know people do this in their free time etc. but Harry must be like CEO of some huge company or whatnot, not to have time ship keycaps in several months.

Harry has already mentioned he is a college student. So was (is) Raccoon, who messed up the Toxic GB and has left Bunny/Cody holding the bag. Perhaps there should be a minimum age required in order to head a GB?
Young people that haven't had a "grown-up" job could very well not know what they're setting themselves up for. I've actually done mass mailings many times (worked for a PR firm at one point - back in the 90s) so I know what to expect, and how to organize things efficiently. I also know what kind of work load/multi-tasking I can handle. Young people that are barely 20 are unlikely to have had the exposure or experience. I've also seen some (seemingly) extremely mature college students derailed from commitments they've made by finals/fun/a new love interest.
Not to say grownups don't screw up (or defraud on purpose), but there's something to be said for being an adult with real life project experience of some sort.

I propose that all GB organizers are allowed to run only one at a time. They may propose a second and do research and all that, but money cannot be collected until the last buyer from the first GB gets his stuff.
I say we blacklist all GB organizers who take too long. This is not necessarily a reflection of honesty but of competence. Competence includes proper management of workload and delegation or outsourcing of duties. As well as having the humility and wisdom to say, I can't handle it, can some other person step in?
unfortunately the mods here are not willing to do much to mediate the group buys and classifieds. Every time I've asked or brought up suggestions I'm told "we have the buyer beware post ( despite it being written in a latin term people may not be familiar with )
The problem is people see cheap items with unrealistic shipping deadlines and people are more than willing to throw money at them without much thought. So part of the blame is on the community users.

This is already end May and his exams should be over.
I already knew that a GB could take very long especially if it's done by only one person for the first time. So I never really got anxious about ship delay and stuff like that. But I think it's important to have some kind of contact opportunity to get in touch with the initiator. So that like HoffmanMyster or other senior mods for the GB part of gh can see what is happening. What the delay is or why Harry wasn't online since 7th May. If Harry comes and explains himself honestly, I wouldn't hold a grudge against him as many things can happen to oneself others cannot imagine. But everybody just wants to get the keycaps and forget about the shipping delay and stuff. Next time Harry would rather team up with others living near HongKong so that such things wouldn't occur again. I believe Harry really tried to fulfill the schedule and as he got behind he stressed himself more than he should etc.
But any update would be appreciated if somehow someone can get in touch with him or has a way to contact him outside of gh. The answers could be parsed through a mod so that others wouldn't go all witch-hunty on them ^^

It's funny in a way, my poker 2 is cursed. The aluminium case was sent 3 times as 2 quietly got lost in shipping. Now, no keycaps. I am poor and since I'm moving house in aug and all I right now don't have money to spend on silly stuff but I still have the crappy original keycaps. And I use that keyboard every work day... :(

There could be some rules going forward that GB organizers have to post at least once a week on the status of the GB (sorted x amount, sending x amount etc), otherwise they could be barred from future GBs buying or selling.

Have you considered a proxy per country? That way you would only have a dozen or so packages to send out - one to each country. And the proxy in each country could arrange to distribute the sets within that country.
Speaking for myself, I am happy to wait until you are able to recommence shipping, but don't want you to suffer as a result.

Just as a security measure I think it is better not to collect any more money at this stage. It is unwise to throw good money after bad. Don't take this personally Harry, you know I have been very supportive of you throughout, but you also know I judge people on their actions. It would be better if Harry did not have to handle more money from now.
I mentioned this in pm to Harry earlier and he hasn't replied. I am willing to proxy for Singapore. Since shipping everything in a big box is going to be much cheaper than shipping out lots of packages separately, I told Harry he should calculate the money saved and send it to the proxy.
After that how the proxy gets the goods to the locals is a matter to be decided locally. At worst the local proxy will have to collect a bit more money. But the difference is not much in most cases because most domestic postage cheap enough.
I think this method would work here, I agree. Have Harry ship the bulk packages to the proxies, and send the remaining shipping funds. The proxies can calculate the shipping costs needed for local shipping, and collect accordingly. The alternative would be to have Harry collect that money and simply funnel it to the proxy, which just adds another person to the mix.it will also be cheaper to have the proxy collect, as you're not taxing a pp fee on top of another pp fee.

Like we'd pay him MORE money? Might as well set it on fire. HE made a commitment, HE needs to honor it. If it costs more money, HE needs to pay for it.

Also for EU, if many sets are shipped together, afaik VAT and some customs will need to be paid (this is usually free for low $$ orders). So proxying would be a bit more complicated because of this reason - depends how many sets and orders are there...
So there's a proxy offer for Australia (not that that would be many orders, probably) and the US (thanks Hoff! - that would probably be a lot of orders).

OK, I’ve decided.
I hate to see how this is dragging on and making people unhappy. Skirting (but not outright defying) my longstanding principle never to run a group buy, I make a conditional offer to handle all orders outside North America. US and Canada are in reliable hands; let me not try to take on more than I can handle!
As shadovved and my personal experience suggest, we can ship a keyset from Singapore to anywhere at $8 each, tracking included. Combined shipping is cheaper for additional sets.
The only thing is that someone on geekhack owes me a lot of money and stuff, and he’s on the verge of default. I’ll know on June 22, but the signs are not good. If I have to fight him in public it’ll take up all my time and emotional energy and I’ll have to back out of this.
Since I've been so busy right now, I'll just post my shipping costs here for reference, both for the general public and Harry.
Note: these amounts account for Priority Flat Rate shipping within the US, labels, tape, and bubble wrap (a "generous" amount, to protect your precious keycaps :) ). They do not factor in any compensation for my time, which will be donated. The quantity of keycap sets that could fit in each size box could increase if people are willing to forego some of the bubble wrap, but I didn't feel comfortable forcing that on people since a crush to the box would almost certainly affect the set (I'm choosing security over cost-cutting). If there are more orders for Belgium, I guess he'll be able to bring them with him as well (if it aren't too many sets).

My question is why is Harry leaving HK, esp after admitting to malicious wrongdoing and why is anyone besides HIM paying for ANYTHING.
He should be the one coming out of pocket to rectify this mess he created.
As a mostly outsider looking in, please don't throw good money after bad.
Unless there is some proof to this, I'd be very skeptical to see that the caps are even in his posession anymore.

People who face up to their responsibilities and finish their tasks as promised WILL always go further than people who default, evade, etc.
In my post above I mentioned another GHer about to default on what he owes me. I'm very angry, of course. But I'm also very sad. I put trust in him because I wanted to see him grow. (Same applies to GhostofHarry). What many people don't understand is that their actions define who they are.
Many people who get arrested for fraud and imprisoned say, "I'm not a bad guy". Well, who cares whether you are or are not a bad guy? You failed to do what you were supposed to, and you will face the consequences accordingly.

I like you Harry, but clearly your priorities are to put yourself first at the expense of the people you accepted money from.
I'm not involved in the GB, but as someone who was going to be and someone who's been involved in other group buys it's disconcerting behavior from a group buy leader.

My friend is in Hong Kong until the end of August and he's doing an internship at the Polytechnic University (he's staying in the Homantin Halls).
If it's easier for you just to ship my order like the rest, feel free to do just that. Getting a package to him might be more work for you than just processing it like the others.

As far as I can see no update... I guess I can call it a loss and stop thinking about it... :( It's always hard to make the decision to join a GB, on one hand a greenhorn comes and presents a cool product, you say "hell I'm not going to miss out on this", on the other hand you must think "this guy has no experience, no history, can I trust him with my money?" ... It's always a gamble...
In my opinion one should never dare to start any big GB before they made a test small scale one, to see what are the implications:packing orders, shipping, dealing with missing/defective parts. When you jump on a big endeavour like this GB with ZERO experience **** will definitely happen.
What amazes me is that people are already at peace with their loss, "well it's only a couple of bucks..." attitude.

at this point, as not all of the people are confirmed with the refund request,

Hi everyone!im looking to buy a new set, but only because i lost my F keys and i need one extra 1x blank cap. id rather take them on their own, from a person who is using 60%.
My package had just as troublesome ending as its whole life.
First of all, it arrived to my old address even though I had a redirection active to my new one (had PMed the new address here but didn't get updated).
Luckily the post guy called me, as he was unable to find a parking space on the street nearby and asked if I could meet him (normally they never call). Had he not do that, they would have simply returned the package with an invalid address or something (wouldn't have find me at my old address). I told him I had a redirection service, he apologized and took the package back to the post office.
I got the notification at my new address (normally they deliver but I was at work during the day), but it was mentioning a central post office not my local one for pickup. I went there, 1st floor, they looked for the package but didn't find it. Sent me to 3rd floor to their delivery offices (or something). Found a nice lady that offered to help. Some searching and phone calls later she said the package might be at my local post office (lol). She kept apologizing, but knowing what I know about this group buy I wasn't nervous at this point, it was more like funny. Finally she did find my package.
As a 'bonus', turns out the package was damaged in transit, that's why it was misplaced in some different spot. Since it lacked the written report (for damaged packages they write and attach a useless report saying they got it this way or something like that) that was the reason they were looking for it among the 'normal' packages. At least that's what I understood from what they told me, perhaps they marked it damaged in 1 computer program and not in the other or something, some human logistics error, anyway.
Altogether it took me about an hour or two to pick it up.
The box was damaged but they duct taped it together and nothing was missing. I installed the keys and I found all keys for my Poker 2 plus a bunch of extra ones so it's all good now. :)

Yup, this one was handled extremely poorly. Just keep trying to message GhostofHarry and maybe you'll get your refund.
