Where can I find a decent ISO PBT keyset?
« on: Mon, 30 November 2015, 10:58:58 »
Hello guys. I am using a cheap Tai Hao doubleshot ABS set on my Turtle Beach keyboard. I don't hate it... I like the sound of thin ABS over Cherry Blues but I don't love it either... these ABS keycaps feel a bit "cheap" and the set is all white with black legends so it's a tad boring to look at.

Is there any place where I can find a decent PBT set that fits this board? The major problem I see here is that the keyboard is in ISO/UK layout (big ass enter key etc..) and there seems to be a really small selection of keysets for anything that isn't ANSI. :(

I know most SP keyset group-buys offer child packs with the ISO caps but those only appear once in a blue moon and they're way too expensive for my wallet right now. I just want something of decent quality for a fair price (can't be blanks).

Nobody can help me out?  :(
The current state of ISO keysets on the market is a bit sad... ISO/European layout aren't exactly a rare occurence. Why the hell is it so hard to find an ISO set?

I know there's always the group-buys but if it's SP caps then the sets can get really expensive. Not to mention that we must add a child pack to the base set in order to have ISO most of the time.

This kinda sucks...

Self promotion ahead

I sell these: http://leandren.bigcartel.com/product/iso-pbt-keycaps

The same as the Vortex ones seen on Amazon. These are thick PBT, minimal mold issues and blank.

I sell these: http://leandren.bigcartel.com/product/iso-pbt-keycaps
Either buy from LeandreN, who is reliable and genial, or salvage keycaps from old used board.
You can find some reasonably cheap Cherry G80-3000 on eBay.

This is also a really good idea. Older boards tend to have some high end keycaps.

Thanks for the reply but someone on reddit already linked me to your store. While I like the thickness and overall decent quality of the Vortex PBT keycaps, I am specifically looking for a printed set (something with legends, not a blank set, the printing method doesn't matter much as long as the legends are there).

Hmm, this might actually be a good idea. Do you know of someone selling these somewhere?

I left a post in r/mechmarket asking if someboy is interested in selling me a set. Maybe I'll get lucky.
I'm fine with buying second hand as long as the price is fair and I like the look of the set.

I use to buy from italian resellers on eBay but shipping costs to Portugal would be from high to prohibitive, although an italian keyboard would do you good since since it's ISO, the numbers row is almost identical and so are the punctuations keys on the right of the letter M.
If there are second-hand deals websites in portuguese you might want to browse some. It's time consuming but I managed to get a rare set of keycaps that way.

Alright, I'll have this in mind. Thanks for the help/advice. :)

See how much shipping to Portugal is for this.

Please note: This is a G81 keyboard, therefore it has MY switches. Only 1u keys are MX compatible. 1,25u keys have an off center stem and 2u or wider keys have built in stabilizers which are incompatible with MX switches. Keycaps are thick PBT with lasered legends. Not the best but still a good set overall.

I know it's QWERTZ but it's a good start.

Welcome to the hell of ISO keycaps sets.

I know Ducky made some ISO/UK keycaps sets in PBT, 1 in Grey/Blue and 1 in yellow, (can be more sets).

I have this 2 sets in ISO/Nordic layout, the Grey/Blue set I have is laser engraved like this german set: https://www.google.se/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=16&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0ahUKEwjRzdXA37vJAhUmvnIKHQ_rAP44ChAWCDUwBQ&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.caseking.de%2Fducky-pbt-keycap-set-laser-engraved-de-layout-grau-blau-gakc-036.html&usg=AFQjCNFqvqCMO86TIlIRSzOu_JnBRlxesg

Edit: Bad picture of my ISO/UK Ducky Shine 3 with Duckys ISO/Nordic Grey/Blue PBT laser engraved keycaps set. The ESC cap (HKP, Raven) don't belong to this set

My ISO/Nordic Ducky Shine 3 with Duckys ISO/Nordic yellow PBT set.
The 2 black "BEERBREAK" caps don't belong to the yellow set.

Yea finding ISO sets are hard even if you want Ducky sets. Got two of my sets from a Finish site but its not longer a Ducky retailer :(
Inet has ABS sets: http://www.inet.se/produkt/6607452/ducky-shine4-key-cap-109-abs-set-red#/specs
MaxGaming also have ABS: http://www.maxgaming.se/keycaps

But its not easy, even if I only use one of mine its hard to get rid of any of them.

My 2  Ducky PBT sets was bought from Inet last year.

There are only 2 ISO/Nordic Ducky ABS sets, red and white (Inet and Maxgamin) but in the ANSI layout you have some more colours.

Check out http://pimpmykeyboard.com/blank-key-packs/

They sell their sets standard ANSI but you can buy an ISO enter key separately : http://pimpmykeyboard.com/dcs-dsa-iso-enter-pack-of-1/

This is from the US though so you'd have to pay for postage.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the suggestion but I am specifically looking for a printed keyset. I don't want blanks because I can't touch-type.

You can get sets printed, it would just be the enter key that would be blank.

Actually, a thing to warn you about is that most the keysets there are DSA profile keycaps which aren't looked upon greatly by most (When it comes to feel). Also, stay away from the G20 profile keycaps, not very good. I'd recommend the SA profile caps but that limits your options completely. It's upto you if you want to try out DSA or not. Personally I really like the look of them, but this is your purchase and decision.

Also might want to check out http://ukkeycaps.bigcartel.com/product/group-buy-tai-hao-pnt-doubleshot-keycaps-iso-uk-ansi-blanks
From the UK with ISO layout but just limited to the 2 colours.
