Intro

VERTEX and EQUALZ founded TKD , bring the first project "Cycle7" (Cycle/Recurrence). This is a 70% (FRL) keyboard. Compared to the traditional TKL, this layout omits the function keys row but retains a separate function area and arrow keys. It possesses a sleek shape without losing the practicality that this size offers.

Approval bump :thumb: and a quick note

PSA to prospective buyers:
Group Buys are inherently risky endeavors. There is an element of risk involved with collecting payment before the item has been produced and resulting uncertainty during manufacturing / subsequent operations. We urge all GB organizers to consider (and document) these risks, and want to make it clear to all who consider purchasing that these risks are present.

If you are unfamiliar with the Group Buy model, please read this primer - Group Buy FAQ / Buying Guidelines

This PSA is new and will become standard on all Group Buys moving forward. It is not posted on this GB in isolation and is not singling this organizer out in particular as someone to be wary of.

About wireless PCB, we have something update:

1.The wireless mode of the PCB has a delay of 6-8ms in 2.4G/wired mode, while Bluetooth mode has a delay of 10-13ms.

2. The actual battery capacity of the PCB is approximately 4000mAh.

3.To switch to wireless mode, there is a physical switch on the PCB, located close to the Capslock indicator light. However, switching modes requires removing keycaps.

4. Under the wireless mode, the keyboard still includes the internal brass battery covers.

5. In the wireless mode, there are 2 batteries under the battery cover, but in the wired mode, there are two filling foams(shown in Pic) instead of the batteries.

6. The Wireless mode of Cycle7 operates independently with its own driver. Currently, the driver is under development and testing. Our goal is to create a simple and user-friendly experience, similar to VIA/VIAL, to the best of our ability.

Really love this board but I'm not in a position to purchase. Any chance of a R2? If so, do you have an estimate time of when?

This is a really interesting design. Would you mind sharing more about the latch mechanism? Is it your design, or does it use off the shelf parts?

It's a common ball and latch system. It's been used in many, many other things for many, many years. This isn't the first keyboard to use it, and with how popular this board is getting, it won't be the last.

It may be their own "design", but its absolutely nothing new.

I only know of the jris 75 and the matrix 6xv corsa for recent keyboards.

This board looks great, nice color options and price!

FRL TKL is not for me, but I would be very interested in a standard TKL version. GLWGB!

Found this somewhere in the Discord. Comparison between silver and cream. The way I see it, it‘s more yellowy than „pure“ white but not quite beige. But maybe ClickClack can give more infos still.

Seems like plenty of people in China have theirs already, can't be that long now for International customers.

______________________________________________________________

October 9th:

Hi, @TKD. I have a comprehensive update on the status of the TKD Cycle7 production. I know it is a couple of weeks overdue, but we will make sure you get them monthly. I don’t know if the ones coming forward will be as detailed as this, but I can say that we will be sending them out on a regular basis.

Machining

Case (upper and lower cases): 60% has been completed cumulatively, and the production of all cases is expected to be completed in mid-November. Some have been surface-treated; the rest will be sent to surface-treatment production every week.

Light components: stainless steel trim (20%), PC uniform light block (100%), stainless steel trim will continue production after one week.

Battery cover plate (brass parts): Production has not yet started. Due to the risk of oxidation when storing brass parts, production will be arranged to start later in the process.

Counterweight block (stainless steel parts): 20% has been completed cumulatively and is continuously processed.

Surface Treatment

Case:
a.    Anodizing: 25%
b.    Coating: 0%
c.    Supplement: The surface treatment of the shell is currently in continuous production.
Counterweight:
a.    Sandblasting: 50%
b.    Mirror grinding: 10%
c.    PVD: 0%
d.    Supplement: According to the order ratio, we will first meet the quantity of sandblasting and mirror grinding, then gradually start PVD production.

PCB and Firmware

PCB (QMK single-mode solder, QMK single-mode hot-swappable, three-mode hot-swappable) is arranged for production according to the total number of orders. It is currently in the board-production stage and is expected to complete all board-production and start chip-mounting operations on October 20th.

Single-mode VIA has not been officially approved, but VIAL can be used normally.

The V1.0 version of the three-mode driver has been released. We have collected the usage information of domestic buyers, and there are still some bugs. We will continue to optimize and iterate in subsequent driver versions.

The test of the three-mode firmware level was completed during the domestic group buying period, and the specific data is as follows:

a.    This plan currently only meets the needs of Windows-driven applications. The development progress of the Mac version is confirmed (subject to the progress of the plan company).
b.    This solution supports three-channel Bluetooth, which allows for the simultaneous connection of three devices.
c.    The three-mode PCB has default patch lights on the Q, W, E, and R keys to display the keyboard's current connection mode and status.
d.    The three-mode switch is a physical switch on the PCB board placed next to the Caps lock/case indicator light.
e.    Return rate: wired/2.4G (1000Hz), Bluetooth (125Hz);
f.    Latency: 2.4G (6-8ms), Bluetooth (10-13ms);
g.    Battery life: 290 hours (with an actual battery capacity of about 4000 mAh).

Accessories and packaging materials

The packaging has been fully ordered and made according to the order quantity. It is still in production and is expected to be delivered by the end of October.

The shell quick-disassembly bead components have all arrived according to the order quantity.

Foam parts (ESD sheet, PCB foam, bottom foam, PE foam, battery compartment filling foam, etc.) and silicone parts (Gasket strip, Gasket beans, PCB Plugs, etc.) arrived according to the order quantity.

All other accessories, such as cables, switch pullers, and screwdrivers, have arrived.

Update from today (16th of December 2023) from the ClickClack discord:

Hi, everyone.

The TKD Cycle 7 experienced a delay due to an unexpected issue during the anodization process. The aluminum alloy material caused blotchy patterns on the upper surfaces. As this was TKD's first project, their team was committed to delivering the highest quality and, hence, decided to rework a batch of materials to ensure the highest quality. Rigorous retesting has occurred over the past month and a half, and production is now back on track. The CNC machining of these reworked cases is expected to be completed by mid-December.

Since there were so many orders, they will be shipped out in batches. It's possible that some orders will be shipped in December, but most will be shipped mid-late January. The shipping order is entirely random, so the order number does not play a role in the shipping order.

Discord updates continued as well as an email update. Again, just doing this for people that don't use Discord and only check Geekhack.

01/22/2024
FrankTheTank
I just received word that TKD is sending out around 100 units per day, so at this rate, it will take 2 weeks or so for all the units to be shipped to our warehouse. Unfortunately, Chinese New year is around the corner, so some units will likely be caught up in the holiday

01/22/2024
LOLO in a response to someone on the discord asking if those with delayed orders will receive compensation:

My answer is that we will try to deliver all the orders within this month (before CNY), and there is no preparation for compensation.

I'm sorry if this will make you feel depressed, and we don't want to delay the order, and rather than it, we're more concerned about the delivery of the orders with quality and as timely as possible (for the current timeline).

Jan. 20th is a estimate and should not be used as an agreement.

We have delivered around 40% of CC orders (Included in transportation) and are still assembling/shipping.

Regarding the PCB problems, we will actively deal with after-sales, and will not evade responsibility. And we're also discussing with CC how to keep the CNY holiday from affecting its processing.

01/22/2024
LOLO response continued
@nylewd @Shine
Based on this experience, in future GBs, we will consider a clear delivery time as a commitment, and if we fail to deliver before that time, we promise to compensate you.

However, if Clickclack or other vendors do not make additional statements about delay compensation at the time of GB, there may still be delays, I suggest people consider carefully join or not.

@Shine "Thank you so much! This is exactly what I needed to hear! If TKD delays, TKD compensate. If Vendor delays, vendor figure things out or not. Thank you for your commitment to this hobby!"

I haven't started committing yet, I want you to be particularly aware of that. And we'll try to do better and try not to let people be disappointed with the products and the project itself.

@nylewd "We unconditonally agreed to the group buy model and associated delays. I'd rather wait longer if it means the product delivers without issues"

I hope people can understand that we do not want delays to happen, but for timely delivery, obviously we care more about quality.

01/26/2024
FrankTheTank
I just received an update about fulfillment of the Cycle7. We are getting in another batch of 200 units tomorrow. The remaining 700 units will be shipped throughout the rest of January. We are hopeful that no orders will be affected by the Lunar New Year delays.

And finally, today's email:

01/29/2024
"TKD Cycle7 Kit Shipping Soon"

Dear Customer,

We are excited to share that we are on track to ship all the TKD Cycle7 orders before the Chinese Spring Festival holiday, which is before February 5th, 2024. The TKD team and Click Clack are working tirelessly to ensure your orders reach you as quickly as possible.

Thank you for your understanding and patience. We appreciate your continued support.

Just received my unit on Monday. Really good quality, just as everyone said!
One thing missing though (to me at least) and that's the firmware in qmk_firmware repository. I have seen links to binary files, but that doesn't work for me. I want complete configurability of my board, which via/vial do not offer.
So my questions:
Is a pull request to qmk_firmware repository committed?
Is information available to do the configuration myself?
