[Preview] BumbleBee Set
« on: Tue, 25 June 2013, 00:49:57 »
Just a sneak peek on the set we've been working on lately..

We're currently at 70%!
We WILL be hosting a groupbuy for this particular set! Stay tuned! So far we have planned to include some special poly carbonate keycaps in this set(Not guaranteed but we're trying our best!). The polycarbonate keycaps are not included in this preview but we assure you it will be glorious.

Colors and designs may not be final! Overall some legends ARE missing so please don't jump to conclusions!

"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

My Black 84LZGH approves.

Not sure what the comfort level for typing on such yellow keys.
I'd imagine a less brighter yellow would reduce eye strain

Awww how much different?

Most yellows are not quite yellow.

The Filco is orangeish.

WASD is very pale.

The Hazard Set was the closest to yellow yellow.

According to HTML colour grabber, the above pic is #fff200, which is only slightly less yellow than #ffff00.  BUt TBH looks fantastic! :)

We'd personally like it to be the same color as our awesome face keycaps/chickobo/yellow smile! to allow consumers a wider variety of customization but if the yellow proves to be too bright, we're looking more towards a gold color.

Excellent!

I have most of those, as pictured here:

http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=37012.msg790908#msg790908

The Smile! yellow in particular is almost exactly the same as the Awesome and Hazard Set - and that is very yellow.  probably not quite as yellow yellow as the mockup in the OP, but more yellow than Filco.

One of the legends we are working on and plan to include

We put the logo on the design purposely to help protect it from being stolen.

Hmmm i'm leaning towards the F5-F8 being F5-F8, and just print/scroll/pause as the skull/crossbones logo?

Your call, obviously :)

Still loving the colour hehe

Very nice.

Especially the Tsangan kit.

Would love to get in on this one.  Haven't had an all Yellow and Black set.  It would be even better if you did enable an all Polycarbonate set that will stand out further in an already crowded Key-set market.

I personally don't think there was ever a full polycarbonate set made thus yet, maybe yours could be the first one to break that frontier.

Damn, I was hoping for a complete set.

Remember this is a homage to the autobot 'Bumblebee' hence it has to made out of the toughest plastic.  This character needs to be extremely strong and able to take the greatest amount of abuse and torture but still save everyone else out there.

Polycarbonate should be the material for this set.

I agree! But I think someone else has the rights to the first complete poly set.

Either way, it's a good looking set.

seems as though no one has yet mentioned the elephant in the room thnaks to everyone's focus on the bumblebee.

HOw much is it expected to cost?

It's going to be a deal breaker if anything over $90 for me. I might as well pay a bit more and get a new keyboard with some nice switch.

Black yellow, very nice color combo.

Do you know the color codes that you will be using?

Do you know the color codes that you will be using?

For now we're aiming towards NN/YY (using SP ABS Color Codes) so that other users can mix and match our other yellow keycaps onto the set if needed.
It is the exact same color scheme as the Yellow Awesome Face keycaps, Yellow Smile! Keycap, and the Chickoco Keycap.

We are open to suggestions of different colors like a more dark golder tone!

is the windows flag definite?  or will there possibly be another modifier available?

We can change it to the windows 8 key if you guys like :]

Unfortunately we cannot give an estimated/expected cost because this will be released as a group buy exclusive and the price is directly proportional to the amount ordered. Rest assured it will most likely be well under $90 for a basic 87 key setup.

Unfortunately we cannot give an estimated/expected cost because this will be released as a group buy exclusive and the price is directly proportional to the amount ordered. Rest assured it will most likely be well under $90 for a basic 87 key setup.

No no no!  Keep it as the Smile! yellow, it is so nice :)

Only 87?  Will a numpad option be available?
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

What legends will you be using? Am I the only one here that would think charcoal or dark grey would look better than black?

I agree.  Some textured dark gray would be cool with yellow.

I think the window key should be the honeycomb legend, ctrl should be text and ditch the M$ logo. Or, at least a 1.25x option for window/super.

That's probably more coherent.  Black is very stark with a bright color next to it.  Dark gray will have some tone and blend a bit better.

looks nice!
is that the final bee (esc) key design? at glance it resembles more of a wasp than bee
would also prefer the boxy windows logo than the wavy version but if there some other design/logo, much better!
but then, it could just be me

don't mind me though, i'm definitely in for this one  ;)

We can change it to the windows 8 key if you guys like :]

Oh GOD NO!!!

Please anything else but that awful 8 logo.  Remember that Millions in the WORLD that will never use Windows 8, they out number the 8 users almost 1000000 to 1.

So design and/or use something other than Windows 8 logo on that key.  It's almost like pure abuse to use that foul OS logo over everyone's wishes  >:( .

Please forgive my hatred for this OS but there you go, there is someone out there that really hates their current operating system.  I have tried to like it, have installed it onto numerous PC's but I have come to the sad conclusion that Windows 7 still stands head and shoulders way above this current OS.

<-- switched to windows 8 after years of windows 7.  And I use other operating systems, like UNIX at work, Linux in VMs, etc.  W8 really grew on me and does not hinder my productivity (generally the opposite).

Windows 8 sucks, but I will say it is at least better than 7 since it at least tried to make a package manager, sort of. Not a very good one, more like a phone app store for the desktop, but still something.

An operating system without a bloody proper package manager isn't worth the dvd it's burnt to.

But the contrast is part of the beauty of the black and yellow combo.

How about moving the honeycomb icon from the Ctrl key to the Windows key instead?

Agreed! That's what I would like to see as well! =)

I vote for no corporate logos at all.. Or, at least a 1.25x option for for those of us that do not want mega-corp logos on our custom sets.

Also, can we have an option for an all-yellow set, including the mods?
