Title: CaptainBadAss' Keycap and Switch Test Tour
Post by: CPTBadAss on Mon, 03 June 2013, 22:06:50
Edit on 6/1/14: This thread has been locked due to the lack of interest in a future tour.

UPDATE: YES THE ORIGINAL TOUR IS MISSING BUT I HAVE A NEW SOLUTION. PLEASE LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU THINK OF MY SOLUTIONS BY REPLYING TO THIS POST (http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=44312.msg989199#msg989199). THANKS!

It's time! I'm done teasing this. No more Interest Checks (http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=39883.msg786750#msg786750) and talking about it. It's happening, I'm making moves finally.

This is my Keycap and Switch test tour. You can try a variety of keycaps AND switches.

Ever wanted to try Alps, Topre, Buckling Spring, and MX switches all in one shot? You can do that. Scroll down for more info!

Tired of hearing the debate between PBT and ABS caps? Want to know for yourself what the difference between thick and thin caps are? Here's your chance to find out. I've managed to accumulate the following caps which will be put onto a Tipro 4x8 Matrix board (http://i.imgur.com/ciCV76f.jpg). It has plate-mounted MX Blacks:

I also have a Mr. Interface Switch Try Bag (http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=41117.0). This bag has loose Cherry MX switches (Blue, Brown, Black, White, Clear), Alps (Click and Tactile White, Black, Salmon, etc), a Topre keychain, a Buckling Spring keychain, and some other rare switches (Acer, Futaba, Cherry ML). It's got most of the switches available....except I didn't get a Green or Ghetto Green. Sorry to anyone who was looking forward to trying these. If you ever wanted to try a whole bunch of switches, this is how to do it. Yes they are loose single switches but unless you go to a meet, it'll be hard to get this variety anywhere else.

TheFlyingRaccoon has graciously added a Hall Effect Switch to the "Other" bag. You'll know what I mean when you get the stuff.

ray4jc has added an MX Linear Grey, Matias Quiet, and Matias Clicky switch.

Rules (These are borrowed from AKIMbO's AT F tour (http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=42802.msg867659#msg867659))
Only members who have 100+ posts and I deem trustworthy are allowed to participate.

Post your interest here. I'll add you to the list if you meet my requirements. The trust thing is there because most of the stuff on this tour is borrowed and I need to return everything eventually. I haven't decided on whether or not I'm going to keep this tour running or if I'm going to do rounds. Let me know what you guys think.

I forgot to say this before but Mashby has also suggested that we send out 37/Alpha sets for people to test out. I'd have to ask him and he'd be handling the sets. if there is interest in this, please let me know as well.

Tour FAQs

Which keys are where on the Tipro?

I'm forgot what I tried in the Mr. Interface Try Bag; Help me remember?

You can check out Mr. Interface's article here (http://deskthority.net/try-before-you-buy-f29/the-switch-try-bag-version-2-conus-europe-worldwide-t2983.html) or my review on the bag here (http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=41117.0).

Mini Review on Keycap Types

PBT DSA: These feel like they have a sandy texture. They are angled towards my fingers which feel weird because the GMK caps I’m typing on are angled up, almost parallel to the base of the board. I’ve never used a DSA  profile cap and the one that I put on my escape key felt so foreign to me.

ABS DSA: These are smoother than the PBT caps. Same angled issue as before though.

Thin ABS:  Even though these aren’t SP thin ABS, they feel exactly the same. Light and smooth and barely louder than the rest of the caps. Not bad but I might just be very used to them since I have 3 sets of SP ABS.

Thin PBT:  Not at textured as the PBT DSA caps but still a bit sandy. They feel thinner than the thin ABS caps. Not my favorite.

Thick PBT:  The smoothest PBT cap. These are actually my favorite PBT caps. They feel like there’s something substantial to press down on and they don’t get dirty easily (I have a set of imsto Cherry replica caps that I’ve typed on for a few months.) The texture is nice too since I prefer the smooth caps.

Thick ABS:  These are my favorite caps. The profile is nice, they’re smooth, and the legends are nice. The still feel very substantial to type on but don’t have the texture in PBT that I don’t like. Plus the profile is very nice. The only thing that annoys me is the scoops.  I’m extremely used to nips and the scoops make it hard for me to locate my hands sometimes.

Relegendables:   They feel like ABS to me and are very smooth. Plus they look cool.

Doubleshot PBT:  Same as the PBT caps above it but it looks really sharp.

Zinc:  Cold to the touch but warms up fast. VERY substantial, it almost changes how the switch feels.  There is a ton of wobble in the cap.  The cap almost suctions to me hands. It’s not bad and it felt nice when I tried the Full Metal Filco.

Does Iowa still qualify as CONUS?

CONUS = Contiguous United States AKA the Lower 48 States. So yes, Iowa is part of CONUS and no, you're not too late to sign up.

Tour is CONUS only
:'(

Tibro! I brought the Switch Try Bag to the Chicago meet! But if you're interested in trying anything out, we can work something out when the tour is over.

Or are you just sad you're leaving CONUS? :(

No I'm still exited to go, I have tried the switch bag, but I did want to try out the keycap differences.
On second thought, one more reason you need to do a Eurotour!

Isn't it still the flat rate to ship from or to a base?

Unsure how that works. Was going to talk to a friend to figure it out. Or maybe Tibro can tell us.

Smallfry if you are military stationed overseas with an APO of an FPO address i do believe it is still different shipping rates.  I never actually had to send anything to an APO or an FPO address but everytime i had something sent to me it took FOREVER.
Title: Re: CaptainBadAss' Keycap and Switch Test Tour
Post by: tipo33 on Tue, 04 June 2013, 11:36:03
The shipping is certainly cheaper, and VAT free, but it is not flat rate.  I would cover it both ways.   Or Capt can come visit Naples :p

Post by: CPTBadAss on Tue, 04 June 2013, 11:39:30
I just read that it was "domestic pricing" for shipping to APO or FPO on the USPS site...whatever that means. Although I much prefer the hand delivery method :D

I'm not here to try anything out (I can't anyway being a newbie), but since you guys are testing the more exotic stuff like zinc keycaps, I figured I would toss in a suggestion for these:

(http://images10.newegg.com/NeweggImage/ProductImageCompressAll300/A1HC_129895640762812500uSoUj6svDW.jpg) (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA1HC0D18108)

I haven't gotten a set myself yet (although I should since they're only $10), but I figured they'd be interesting to try. (I'm skeptical about the longevity of the material though...)

If there is enough interest, I might do a Canadian tour next time. And now that I have 8 people. I think I'm going to cap this and call it Round 1. Tour should take about 2 months total. I will send this out on 6/15 or 6/18, so this coming Saturday or Monday. Order will go by the listing in the OP. If everyone could send me their address, that'd be great. I'll try and send out a mass PM soon to remind everyone

I might keep it running like AKIMbO's Model F tour or I might have it sent back to me for improvements to Round 2.

Thanks CPTBadAsss for my being able to try all this out without evening needing to involve the postal service.

I got a chance to try many switches, & several boards. As well as some other gear that I likely otherwise would have never encountered. Hopefully we can do something similar again soon! You are a very kind host. Thank you & I hope you had a good time hanging out as well :) (or at least seeing my in seeing what was in my collection).

Enjoy your cloud cap ;)

I've updated the OP to say this. I also got word that TheFlyingRaccoon will be adding a Hall Effect switch to the tour. Thanks man! And yes, the package is currently with him.

Of course it's not the same. I even say that in the OP. But trying a keychain or single switch is better than guessing with numbers or trying to figure out someone else's description of a switch.

Just didn't want dubs missing out!

Also captain is there room on your tester for a few more keycaps?? And I'll probably add the two matias switches and any 'other' switches I have that aren't included, if that's ok.

I don't actually have the switches mounted if that's what you mean by "tester". The switches are loose in bags. If you can fit the two Matias switches into the box/bag, that would be amazing. It was already a bit of a tight fit, but you're more than welcome to try it.

It's only that Tipro that has plate-mounted Blacks and that's to try keycaps. I should've taken a better picture.

You said you wanted to add Matias switches and then in the next post you asked about space on the Tipro without answering my questions. Confuse me more bro. What novelty caps?

And what switches do you have? You can check my review to see what switches the tour doesn't have. I'm really hoping someone has a Green switch to add. Your Matias switches will be very nice as well :D

I've got lots to pick from, maybe a couple painted ones just so people can see what they 'feel' like and a couple others just to fill out the board and you can keep them when it gets back to you.

If you don't want it changed I'll just leave it just like I get it, no biggie.

And the reason I offered the matias switches is I was thinking you said your switch test bag didn't have those so I was gong to add those to the switch test bag and let you keep them also, and I might have a green and a gray mx switch also.

I'd be very grateful for additions :D. I just wanted to know what you had is all. Would you happen to have any POM caps? Or anything in addition to the painted caps? Primarily looking for materials we don't already have on the tester; anything unique.

If you can fit the Matias switches, Green, and Grey MX switches into the box, I'd be super grateful as well. And I'm sure everyone after you will be very happy.

I confess I haven't read the couple threads regarding this or the links; and I've only read only the couple big posts, so I'm missing some details. I wanted to throw my name into the ring. I promise to read the thread tonight or tomorrow to get caught up, but I already see super cool stuff here.

I was part of the U.S. Cherry Switch Tester about May 2012 and I didn't vomit on the numpad they sent me (go ahead and ask Hashbaz). I got to try Ergo Clears and I think a Ghetto Red (?) that was cool and very helpful.

I like to see the "other" switches and mostly interested in the different keycaps. Anyone that has seen more than a dozen of my posts knows that I'm gonna DIE if I can't get a blank, PBT set of keycaps with the same profiles as a Kinesis for the Split Kinesis Project... but I'm skimpy on the actual feel of the different keycaps. I was at the GH Bay Area Meetup, but that damn slave driver Samwisekoi had me packing Retro DSA keycaps...so my keyboard time was somewhat abbreviated. Oh yea, I was a little late too.

You can put my name on the list, and I'll take YOUR name off MY hit list (regardless of the $50 another Geekhacker gave me to snuff you out).

My thoughts: EVERYTHING IS OVER RATED
Topre, thick PBT, blue alps. In fact I love the "knock off" switches like the KPTs, circular ones, and Acer switches. Also the Cherry doubleshot caps were pretty awesome. I love the retro DSA caps and zinc caps. Let's see... Cherry switches are still Cherry, Alps are still awesome, not much else to say. Thanks so much for running the tour captain! I enjoyed it.

Sounds cool that the Keycap & Switch test tour package is actually growing as it gets around. Perhaps I'll get a chance to take another look at it if it makes its way back to CTPBadAss. I too have been wanting to see what POM keys are like, but it seems very difficult to know if you even have them. Getting some "known POM" in there would be excellent. Thanks again for letting me try all those switches & keycap types, even if I was "accidentally" the first participant  ;)

So I really didn't realize how different these keycaps would feel.

The double shot cherry ABS were very impressive and by far my favorite, I would definitely like to try more of these in the future.

I confirmed I do like the dsa keys and would probably go with abs over pbt, however again the difference between the two is strangely odd, but very noticeable.

Personally the rest of the caps were ok, not really crazy about the thin abs or thin pbt caps.

The zinc keycap was really nice, but it falls off really easy! The added weight makes the black switch seem much lighter.

As far as the switches go I didn't spend any time with them, was more interested in the key caps.

But I added 5 caps to finish out the board, 2 signature plastics 'gamer' flat caps (these I bought from Sifo!), I also put on 2 what I believe are SA profile double shot caps that came from a crap bag and finally a bunny Miami cap that I added just for Captain (not sure if you have one but now you do!).

I'm also adding a gray mx switch and matias clicky and matias linear switches with keycaps!

Here are some photos taken with a potato!

Cap'n told me to 'enjoy' my time with this thing and to 'take my time', so i took my time ;)
just wanna say thanks to CPTBadAss for doing this tour, and to anyone else who has helped out with donating/lending caps out to this tour. Making this better for us all.
now for my thoughts, i thought i would give my thoughts on all the caps, but only on the switches that stuck out to me.

From top to bottom;

Bunnycaps: I already own a few, but i don't own a 'sprinkles' one. They feel nice, and have a subtle and random texture to them.

PBT DSA (Meebcaps): I was very nervous about DSA, because i just ordered my DSA set with Team Redline, so i was nervous that i would dislike dsa, and i can happily say i really like it. It's a different feel from the SP caps that i'm used to, and there is a smaller space for your fingers, but i can imagine a full board of them feeling very cool. I'm now very excited for my set. Now between these sexy meebcaps and the Retro caps, the Meebcaps have a nicer texture and feel to them. The meebcaps feel nicer, almost sandy. oh right, they are meebcaps...so they feel very funky...

ABS DSA (Retro): Just like i said above, happy with the feel. feels different, but good. not as nice of a texture as the meebcaps, but still enjoyable.

POM: nothing special.

Thin ABS (Poker Stock Caps): Brings back nightmares before the Raindrop Days for me. no go for anyone

Thin PBT: at long last trying PBT. has a nicer texture then the thin ABS, but beyond that, i wouldn't pay extra for them. meh

Thick PBT: a tad better then the thin PBT, but still meh. similar texture, which feels nice, but nothing compared to what comes after

Thick ABS: My favorite and #1 choice. they feel silky smooth and heavenly. the scooped F is really cool, all the caps feel godly to press. This makes me even more excited for both my GH60s. I didn't understand the appeal of black Cherry DS sets, (mainly the white on black is ugly), but now i would like to own a set just for the feeling. They just feel wonderful and i cant wait to break in my own sets and type on them.

Relegendables (DEM RELEGENDABLES): Feel nice, and would be cool novelties to own, but feel kinda like the thin abs. kinda slippery

PBT DS (Wario!): Feels like that nice pbt texture, but then in the middle there is the dyesub, which throws the whole thing off.

Zinc Cap: Gives the allusion of the sweet mx blacks feeling lighter. kinda cool to play with, but can't see myself using it even as a novelty. will literally pop off if i push too hard or too fast.

Switches (here i am going to touch up on the ones i enjoyed, or liked/disliked);

Topre:
the infamous and cursed topre mint green skull...third time it comes out of it's baggie

I was very afraid that i would fall in love with the cup 'o' rubber like so many do...but i'm happy to say i didn't. Maybe it's me, but i just don't see it...i don't get what's so special. It just feels like a nicer version of rubber domes. It's very smooth, and has a nice bump (which i like), but the bottoming out and the actual bottom of the action is just so unsatisfying and disappointing...it's very bothersome to use lol. The 'bump' is nice, but i feel as if it begins so early that you don't even feel a bump, and just a lot of resistance in the beginning...regardless disappointing as well. My Clears have a bump that is so pronounced about 40% to halfway down...maybe it's just a different type of bump. I need to be able to try a full board of topre before deciding it's as potato as it is, but i think i have a good idea right now. all in all, i don't see the big deal, i don't see how someone could spend more then $150 on this, plain and simple, they are just rubber domes. nothing special

IMO of course :)

Buckling Spring: i need to try a board with Buckling Spring, because i really like what i have tried so far. i don't want to say it wasn't as heavy as i had heard, because mind you i am just trying a keychain, but it feels great. the bump is so pronounced and the click is pretty awesome. i need to be able to try out a full board definitely

Alps: of all the alps, the only one that caught my attention were the clicky whites, and i already own a board of them, so i'm happy with that (thanks again prdlm2009!!)

Cherry: the day i received this, i had owned or tried all the switches there except for the linear greys, so i'll rapidfire go every all the mx switches;
red: too light, i hate them
browns: great starter switch, unusable for me now, too light
blues: nice and clicky, but too light for me
blacks: my favorite to date, nice and heavy, love the linear
clears: on my daily driver, nice and heavy, perfect bump
greys: very interesting, i want to try out both linear and tactile greys, and be able to maybe use them in a third gh60 or another future board..very cool
whites: recieved my 70 whites from Commie the day i recieved this, so i was playing with them the day of. very excited to have them in my first GH60...nice and heavy but a click too
ML/MY: meh

That pretty much covers it. Thanks for the tour CPT! was cool to try out several caps and finally topre! i appreciate the generosity and trust! :D

Switches (here i am going to touch up on the ones i enjoyed, or liked/disliked);

Topre:
(http://i.imgur.com/6WCEzCX.jpg) (http://i.imgur.com/6WCEzCX.jpg)

the infamous and cursed topre mint green skull...third time it comes out of it's baggie

Cherry: the day i received this, i had owned or tried all the switches there except for the linear greys, so i'll rapidfire go every all the mx switches;
red: too light, i hate them
browns: great starter switch, unusable for me now, too light
blues: nice and clicky, but too light for me
blacks: my favorite to date, nice and heavy, love the linear
clears: on my daily driver, nice and heavy, perfect bump
greys: very interesting, i want to try out both linear and tactile greys, and be able to maybe use them in a third gh60 or another future board..very cool
whites: recieved my 70 whites from Commie the day i recieved this, so i was playing with them the day of. very excited to have them in my first GH60...nice and heavy but a click too
ML/MY: meh
That pretty much covers it. Thanks for the tour CPT! was cool to try out several caps and finally topre! i appreciate the generosity and trust! :D

Nice write up dubs!

I am also on the lookout for some thick ABS key caps after trying those!

I think I'll be making a Ghetto Green and sending it to Melvang while he has the tester. To anyone earlier in the tour who wants to try one, please let me know and I'll send you one. I realized after reading Dubsgalore's review that I now have the ability to make these. I'd like everyone to at least have the chance to try them.

Nice writeup Dubs. Something that lives up to the hype for once  ;)

Edit: I've updated the OP to include the new shipping costs and the new goodies on the tour.

So your putting black springs in blues right?

And not that it matters much but the matias switches I stuck in the tester tour also have caps from SP on them. I assume its thin ABS.

I'm going to give this a month. If the tour doesn't turn up. I'm going to call it a day on this round.

I will try and find another switch try bag but it will take me a long time to find all the stuff I had for this tour for the next one. And if you donated to this tour and lost items, I will be contacting you for reimbursement.

Man, this is an outstanding idea.

Sign me up for round two (I plan to have 100 posts, and will have some member feedback by then)

To clarify, USPS considers APO and FPO addresses domestic shipping, which means you're paying for a domestic rate. This include flat rate boxes, if you're not shipping flat rate, you're paying to the APO hub, for example, all pacific APOs (Korea, Japan, Hawaii) the hub is in California, so you're actually paying shipping to california, and the army takes it the rest of the way. However, if the package is destined for another country, even though you're paying domestic shipping, you will be required to fill out a brief customs form (it's literally your name and address, the destination address, plus what it is "Keypad" and value "$30" and that's it) I would suggest asking for the customs form when you walk in, and fill it out while you're waiting in line. They then have to punch everything you wrote on that card, into the computer, so you'll be waiting another like 2 minutes because post office workers never seem to know how to type. And then you're out.

TL:DR - Sending mail to an APO is exactly the same except you have to spend 30 seconds filling out a customs form, and stand there for two minutes watching staff fumble around a keyboard.

Now, the major problem is, depending on which post you're on, you're looking at anywhere between an extra 5 and 10 days in shipping time. Since you're shipping it to california, and the army goes and picks it up, puts it on an army plane, and flies it out to me, it takes a little longer.  The army cares, but only cares so much.

So, that being said, I'd love to sign up for round to, but I'm happy signing up for the last spot (I might just be in the states by then anyways)

And now I'm caught up on the thread, and sorry to hear about the loss.

Sometimes this happens, and sometimes things show up one or two months after the expected delivery. It's out there somewhere, and might just still turn out. Too bad it wasn't insured however, because then we could hold them accountable.

Fingers crossed!

USPS don't seem to care so much about insurance if tracking shows delivered, only if item arrives damaged/broken.

I can't ask people to pay for insured shipping every time. Not everyone can afford that and that's ok. The only way that would work is if I pay for it out of pocket.

I would be willing to throw some money toward insurance for round 2.  I do feel bad that it happend Cpt.  I know it probably isn't my fault but I still feel bad about it and want to make an attempt to make amends for round 1.  I do realize that other people had items thrown in the mix and I apologize to you guys as well.  If it does turn up I promise you that you Cpt will be the first to know aside from my wife.  I do hope that the keypad that everything was in was either non functional or something you wasn't actually planning on using.
Title: Re: CaptainBadAss' Keycap and Switch Test Tour
Post by: CPTBadAss on Wed, 07 August 2013, 05:58:52
The Tipro wasn't programmed but I did borrow it from The_Beast. I would say the most valuable things on there were the odd switches like the Alps, the keychains, and the various custom stuff that I had or people gave. Caps like the BunnyLake cap and the meebcaps. Ray actually bought a bunch of caps and just donated them to me so I'll need to square things away with him if it really is missing.

No need to feel guilty melvang since it's not your fault. Next round, I'm going to be a reward thing like, "If found, please return to CPTBadAss for a $20 reward" or something. I'm not sure what else I can do to ensure safer shipping.
Title: Re: CaptainBadAss' Keycap and Switch Test Tour

I'm good no worries on my end.

But for the future I don't think having had the packaged insured would have mattered one bit. So long as USPS tracking shows that the package was delivered that is all they are concerned with. I had this happen recently and I called all over talked to all kinds of people, sent emails etc and at the end of the day USPS basically said nothing they could do.

I HAVE FOUND A TEMPORARY/NEW SOLUTION TO CONTINUE THE TOUR.

If you don't know and you're involved in this tour, Dubsgalore, Melvang, and myself believe my original tour is now missing/has disappeared thanks to USPS. However, good fortune and SpamRay have allowed me to find a solution to this problem. I now own this piece of equipment (from cgbuen (http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=38628.msg749455.msg#749455) and Spamray (http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=46613.msg985264#msg985264)):

Yes it is only Cherry MX switches and yes I no longer have Alps/BS/Topre/Caps. I apologize. If the people on this tour or anyone interested could let me know what they want, that would be great. I also have a Switch Try Bag lined up in case the original tour doesn't show up. I will wait one month (Until 9/3/13) for the tour to reappear. If not, I will buy the Switch Try Bag and then can add that to the tour.

Options are:
1) Send MX tester out immediately after Keycon 2013 (8/17/13).
2) Wait to find keycaps and send out caps/MX tester
3) Wait until 9/3/13 and send out MX Tester/Switch Try Bag - no caps
4) Wait to get caps and Switch Try Bag and resend the tour.

Again, please let me know how everyone wants to continue this. I personally want my original tour just to reappear so I want to wait it out.

You will have some SP SA caps and a couple matias switches also (one alps cap)! And I think 2 or 3 other caps I dropped in the box!

Thank you ray. Definitely saved this tour ^__^.

I was trying to hurry and get it out or else I probably could have stuck moar caps there was alittle bit of room left in the box haha.

I'd probably say wait until 2+3.  By this I mean see what keycaps/switches you can get without too much effort and wait a month before sending out the new kit.

Got the Plate mounted MX tester from Ray today. Is there any interest for me to send this out ASAP? Should I restart the tour? Does anyone want to join? Is the 100 post count too high?

What's everyone think? Let me know what's going on.

I've written some thoughts here (http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=44312.msg989199#msg989199) on how this tour can continue.

Just pass it off to me at KeyCon and I can start the mailing.

I'd like to jump in on round two, and I don't mind waiting until you can get a good variety of keycaps. Of course, I don't mind if you send it without keycaps at all, so my thoughts are pretty neutral.

Maybe if you sent it out without caps, everyone could add a couple caps from their collection as they get it? Something that isn't represented on the board?

It'd be a great opportunity for me to get a feel for different profiles as well. I'm very interested in spherical.

I believe this is CONUS only??

He can get APO mailing which means its like CONUS but it's an extra 5 days I think. I'm willing to put any APO/FPO people at the very end of the tour.

Keep the thoughts coming guys.

Correct, USPS considers my APO address CONUS, and shipping charges will be the same as shipping to California. Stick me at the end, that's fine, but by the time it gets around to me I might just be back in the states, and done with my contract. Finally.

All right. As promised, it's now 9/3/13. I never got the other tester back and I'm not waiting for it anymore. I'll get a hold of another Mr. Interface bag for this tour if there's interest. Now the question is, caps or no caps?

And I'm thinking of lowering the post requirements to 60. Thoughts?

Only Clears. No Whites. At your request  ;)

Anyone have an opinion? If there's no need, I can shelve this project for now and start it again later.

After my USPS fiasco, I'm very hesitant on doing a EU tour. Even with tracking I couldn't guarantee that my tour showed up. I'm not that eager to send my tester through multiple countries without any tracking overseas.

'Tis a shame. Should another tour ever start, I will cover shipping for whoever is willing to throw it up to Canada with some tracking.

I loaned out this switch tester (http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=44312.msg989199#msg989199) to Melvang. However, since there seems to be a lack of interest, I'll be keeping it for myself for the time being. If you are interested, please post here. But it seems that there is no need for the tour at the moment.

Again thank you for letting me borrow the tester.  My aunt decided on Reds so I am going to get her the Ducky 9008G2 Pro with blue and dark gray PBT caps.

Awesome melvang. Glad I could help.

And I meant to say in my previous post that I loaned it to Melvang but I have the tester back now.

I'll throw my hat into the ring, for what it's worth. The 100 post limit seems high to me, but 50-60 is definitely reasonable. I think including caps is probably better because it means those without a collection of caps can try out the tester without removing their keyboard's caps. (OK, it's not hard at all but it's just another step that can be avoided.)

All that being said, I'd love to try out the tester simply because it would let me gauge a wide variety of switches. Maybe if I get enough (*quality*) posts I'll give it shot so I know what switches to get/make for a new board.

I was lucky enough to try out the new tester from Cptn BadAss!! (spamrays old tester, made by cgbuen)
This thing was so great I am making one myself! :) I already ordered the metal plate but no funds right now for proxy switches so just the basic switches for now for mine. Id love any unique ones if anyone has them Thanks! I have grey, black, brown, clear, and blue i believe. (theyre coming ill know forsure soon)

The keycaps you chose are great, cherry low profile right? Very comfortable! Id love a set for mine!

The quiet switches, from quietest to loudest:

Stock Dark Grey
Red Stem, Red Spring, Lubed
Blue Stem, Blue Spring, Lubed
Black Stem, Blue Spring
Vintage Black Stem, Originative 62g Spring, Lubed, Stickered
Stock Vintage Black
Stock Black
Black Stem, Originative 55g Spring
Stock Red
Clear Stem, Originative 62g Spring, Lubed, Stickered

Louder Switches from quietest to loudest:

Brown Stem, Light Spring
Stock Brown
Brown Stem, Black Spring
Clear Stem, Blue Spring
Grey Stem, Blue Spring
Clear Stem, Black Spring
Stock Clear
Stock Grey
White Stem, Blue Spring
Stock White
Green Stem, Black Spring
Stock Green
Blue Stem, Light Spring
Stock Blue

I like to have quieter switches just to please my wife! I have Browns on my current setup. THey are a bit tactile but still quiet. I really love Stock White since they are more tactile, they feel great! Also I love the Clears since they are a bit more tactile than brown and still quiet. Had a great time with this! I may get some dark grey or black for quiet but I dont like how you cant feel them that much so Ill probably get clears or maybe whites on my next board then lube and sticker them! :)

Keycaps were the random ones that came with the M7 switches the plate has. No idea on profile.

Also all the switches noises can change based on what keyboard you put them in and what caps you use.
