From The Manufacture Who Brought You:

Koalas, T1s, and Alpaca Linears

Introducing:

Currently gathering interest for the Business-Casual-Nostagia perfection that revolves around the clean and simple Blue, Red, and Yellow Colorway.

This arose as a collaborative-type idea that began with trying Alpaca Linears from PrimeKB.com and discovering there unique (very smooth) feel and great overall fit and finish.

I wanted to do a custom-color run of these fantastic switches and It wasn't a struggle to settle on what colorway I was looking for...

Does it use the same mold as alpacas? I'm scared that the switches will be less smooth than the alpacas because of mold being used more.

Stuff like that takes years, how long have alpacas been in production?

I'm excited that these have been well received thus far!!!

We are close to having enough requests to feel comfortable with getting this party started!

A Couple Notes:

1.) These aren't themed around Handerbeit. Handerbeit is litterally a vomit pallet and this is 2 Primary and 1 secondary color. But I can see the resemblance lol

2.) These will come factory lubed but very minimally. After opening up and trying a few dozen Alpacas, I found the factory seems to just lubed the actuation legs of the stem and with a medium viscosity grease.  It was very easy to lube over top of.

3.) 62g has been highly requested so we may switch to that lighter varient just for majority ruling. Alpacas are a little Light for me IMO but I’d rather just spring swap mine myself than make 50 other people do it.

Thanks for the support and shill the love of this project where you can! :D

I am too. I very much enjoy heavier switches but I think it’s only fair to consider majorly ruling here.

Is there a way to answer the spring part of the survey without submitting the whole survey again? I don't want to complicate things by adding a redundant survey.

edit: I guess I'm complicating things by asking about this. My bad :p

I actually like the 67 gr idea. Alpacas are currently, what, 62 gr? I find them a little light.

67 gr would be interesting, and probably unique. I'd also be okay with 65 gr. Something just a little heavier than stock.

I'm surprised that people are enjoying the 62 gr weight so much. The Alpaca is a great switch, but I am bottoming-out more than I should because it is so smooth and offers so little resistance. It's too fun to press all the way down, so a little more weight could help.

any reason for the Polycarbonate tops and Nylon housings? Usually is preferred nylon on tops (cherry style) since they provide a better sound.

I just read elsewhere that Durock offers these switches in 65 gr. as the 'Mauve' linear. So that's good, there's an established 65 gr. version of these.

I also read that 65 gr suits these switches well. So I'd be very interested in getting these in the 65 gr. weight.

IMO 65g is a great weight for linears and is my spring swap of choice into MX ZILENTS (cherry silent stems in clear housing).

These will be in stock on PrimeKB.com around the end of March. This could be delayed due to the coronavirus situation in China. The_Royal will also be stocking them. I'll open up pre-orders once I get the shipping notification from Durock.

any idea about the switch top fit?  I keep asking on all of these durock switches because I hope they can address the issue.  I own 5 different types of durock switches and they all have loose top housings.  The worse offender is the Koala, and the tighest fit has been on the more recent Lilac tactiles.  Are they trying to fix it?  It's quite a hassle to have to add films to every switch to keep upstroke rattle down.

I'm a big fan of all of these switches once the films are in place, though  :thumb:

I haven't heard anything from Durock about it. So I'm gonna assume these will be about the same as the others.

The weight of 67g has been chosen for production.

It’s a nice medium weight that will be very nice for the smooth and thocky characteristic of Durock Linears.

If people still really want a switch that is equal weight to Alpacas or other D.Linears then PrimeKB currently does (and will continue to) stock OEM Durock Springs in the full range of weights:

A quick update about these switches. They were ordered back in January. While Durock is working towards restoring their full production capacity, new custom colored switches such as these are being pushed to the back of the production queue so they can focus on their backlog of switches that have already been proofed. No idea when they will start the color matching process for these.

Is this going to be a groupbuy? Would hate to see these sell out like alpacas do and not be able to grab some.

It was originally going to be a GB but the response was so solid that PrimeKB Decided to buy a large bulk order out-right.  So they will be in-stock just like Alpacas when production finishes.  Both on PrimeKB and my store Kingly-Keys.

The world is a mess right now so the factory is putting all NEW custom color products on a slower priority within their facilities.  Which is Understandable.

The Prototype color samples have been ordered and we should get those some time in the next 1-2 Months depending on how well the factory can facilitate appropriate/healthy manufacturing.

We will update everyone when anything comes our way.
