[IC] DCS Alps-mount WoB keycaps (taken over, new link in OP)

My friend PigeonsLB has taken this over, find his IC here: https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=113525.0

Hi

Had an idea, I wanna do some WoB Alps-mount caps in DCS profile by Signature Plastics. I've been in contact with Melissa over there about them, and I'm working on figuring out kits. I'd like to eventually do a beige-based set, gonna send some GMK 9009 caps over to SP so they can give me some good color chip recs so I don't have to buy 50 different ones.

The challenges atm are if I want to split out random stuff like ISO, Bottom row stuff (like a Tsangan/WKL + AEK + HHKB bottom row kit), 40's (pictured below) etc. so please give me input on what would actually be worth covering.

latest update (June 11, 2020):

so I talked to SP. here are the updates:

- they only have MX stabilizer stem, Alps switch stem caps. so there won't be any option for Alps/Costar stab inserts.
- pricing seems good, a base kit would be about ~$120 USD.
- regarding legends, I have to pretty much hand-pick these so it will go one of two ways: either the Cherry style like DCS Midnight or the Wyse style like their "black & white" set. Either one would be cool IMO, sort of leaning towards the Cherry style but that's just me.

Latest kits:

More
Current kit sheets as far as I can figure out so far:

base

spacebar and 40's

Legends would be the classic DCS ones, like this:

afaik they only have MX-mount stab mounting, but I can ask if they have the classic alps style too.

tyvm, lmk what else would be worth doing.

On one hand, more custom Alps keycaps? Hell yeah.
On another, beige and BOW? Boring.
Eh, one step at a time I guess?

yep, one step at a time. I'd like to start with the classics as I figure they'd sell pretty well and they're easy to adapt to the platform.

Yes, 7u spacebars are needed badly. Also what stab inserts are going to be used?

At this point I've been informed that these all use MX stab inserts. Sort of a pain, working with some people to see if we can get MX-alps stab inserts made or what other options could be.

Yes, unfortunately we still have this whole stabilizer issue.  I think the best bet is to just have custom boards with alps switch cutouts and cherry PCB stabilizer cutouts.  Unfortunately, this doesn't do a lot to help out with coverage on old boards.

Any consideration about the style of alps stem used?  I know the Alps Throwback set used the 1Z mount and it was "said" to work better.  (no need to shave super tight stems or worry about them breaking off in the switch)

Also, ima need to pick up some more of those NoS yellow alps b/c they rock.

Yes. In for at least one kit. Spacebars and 40 kit would be a nice plus, but certainly not a necessity. 7u space would be awesome.

Yes, please make this.  ;D

I like the kits. No need to split them up more imo. For me, HHKB and Tsangan-support is what I need for buying the set.

Is the 6u space center stem?

I question the 6.5u space, is it compatible with AEK? If not, we could skip that?

I can't speak for the effectiveness of the 1z mount, but what I read about it seems positive.  I bought a set of Alps Throwback to be delivered with my Modern M0110, but yeah... we all know how that Group Buy is doing.
