Well some sads news has come to light. I emailed EK for some information on if the Topre Realforce keycaps will ever come back in stock and this is what I got back from them..

"Topre has told us only in the last week that they no longer wish to make keycaps. We are looking for other options, but this might not happen. Please join our newsletter for future updates.

I'm not sure if this was already known but I'm just throwing it out there if it hasn't.

The rumour has been confirmed

Perhaps this explains why CM have invented the Topre keyboard with MX-compatible stems. Maybe they heeded the rumours before anyone else.

What I'm wondering is ... if Topre keyboards (RealForce, HHKB, FC660C) are still being made, will they be supplied without keycaps?

Oh gee, who really cares about it in the scheme of things. There will always be others that will see an opportunity and take advantage (CoolerMaster for one).

Even though I'm stuck with 3 Realforce Keyboards, not losing sleep over it at all. Besides, waiting to see what CM is releasing next, best thing for Thorpie's out there - for next year

I really hope the Cm keyboard is just as good as a HHKB or An Realforce.

Otherwise i would just want to drop in the Cherry mx compatible topre sliders into an HHKB.

Topre will continue to make key caps for regular production boards. It's the aftermarket caps that they're stopping production for.

I'd think we might still be able to get regular black/white sets, but I'm not sure yet.

That explains why EK never has stock. I got the last white set well one of them but just sold it. Also my orange set is pending.
It saddens me but I need money for clacks and bro bots! Maybe one day ill buy blanks in classifieds for a crazy markup lol

Who rakes in the money anyways: Topre or re-sellers (EK)?

I guess once all the existing brand new set are sold out: Topre will be sitting pretty. Anyone wanting two sets of caps would have to buy two boards?

Topre are like Mercedes. Mercedes decided to make more cheap models like the A-class and it seems to have worked with them.

Now that topre is expanding its line up with entry level models (typeheaven), I guess they don't see selling loads of caps rather than keyboards as the most profitable route to take....

Edit: We might see the typeheaven instead available in a variety of colour options.

) Lose what customers? There will always be the cheaper Cherry MX boards as substitutes. You don't see Leopold stealing all of Realforce's and HHKB's customers with their 660C, even though it's cheaper than the others. Also, with the extra features and TKL layout, they can easily charge for more than the 660C, as it'll "justify" the higher price. With the right marketing, this keyboard can easily sell for more than the 660C, maybe even more than HHKB and RF. People who are going to buy these Topre boards are not exactly the same people who are only spending below $100 for their mechanical keyboards.

We can only hope they price this fairly.

If they've got MX compatible stems I think you'll find CM can charge whatever they like and people will still buy them. I wouldn't be surprised if it's closer in price to the HHKB than a FC660C.

Oh I see so youre undecided on your Topre choice. Well Ive heard good things for Poker 2 so thatd be a great MX until you decide on a Topre, just have to decide on what switch to get. There are testers you can get, or order individual switches too to test them. I like clears, I dont think they come with those though.

Coolermaster has a switch tester with, Green, Reds, Blacks, Blues, Browns, AND Clears.

I think i would enjoy Ergo clears more anyways. I'm quite tired of this 62g-65g Scissor switch laptop keyboard.

Those are very popular, quieter and very fast, made for gaming.

I'm sure they are useable for typing also? As i type the same amount if not more than i game. I'm just thinking i would like the Smoothness of the Cherry mx reds.

I love typing and gaming on light linears cherry switches, I still like topre more for typing but I can't game on them. The slower rebound throws me off.

I keep hearing there is a lack of selection for Topre caps so I'm guessing most Topre owners have purchased the few sets that are available thus leading to a decline in Topre cap sales. If they just released different color runs I'm sure the existing Topre set owners would pounce on them and sales would continue. I think it's a different situation for Topre, as they are the maker of the switches and, as far as I know, the sole maker of the keycaps. It's as if Cherry were the only company making MX keycaps. In some sense, it's reasonable for Topre themselves to not feel a need to cater to the custom market. I wish there were third party options, maybe in the future.

Correct, the dye really gets into the cap deep. You're going to have to remove several layers which may ruin the cap.

Also why couldn't I have had the money for a topre keyboard like 4 months ago because by now I could have my Leopold 600c all nice and modded with caps, and then have boughten a Realforce with 55g uniform and had that modded as well...sometimes I feel as though I am last in line, and I definitely feel as though the gods are laughing at my expense.

I believe he sold them with the pink caps but can't remember if with the clark too. I believe it's a possibility. I just know that he ended up selling whatever the package was for $325, and I also clearly remember kicking myself for even hesitating... Now I have to get over it again :))

Seriously though Vesper, how did you ever save and or make enough money for all these different topre keyboards and all the custom keycaps and sets? I seriously am so jealous of this collection, I think I might actually cry again, but my wife said she punch me in the man parts if I whimpered while looking at keyboards again...so. yeah a bit ackward if you ask me. Hope you had a good holiday man, and I believe I get my red keycap set tomorrow if Fed Ex does their job for once, those guys are such slackers...I should know I use to work for them.

Thank you for the compliments on my keyboards. I'm glad you like them. Makes me feel a little better about my empty bank account... Lol. How you ask? Hmmm something along the lines of spending my entire 3 months worth of spending money. Before the Topre boards, I only had 2 custom MX boards which I modded myself (Filco and QFR) so I was able to do those slowly and divide out the costs over time, but the Topre stuff... Well... All of that happened in a span of 3-4 months. My bank account hates me right now, but at least my fingers and eyes are happy, right?

lol Yeah I should of specified that it was me, my mistake. I am trying to make enough post where I can participate a bit more in the community. I think the all red looks nice, but I would of preferred lime green like yours with maybe a red wasd. But I am still happier than the having the stock keycaps on there. I believe it will look better with a green and or blue wasd with an escape key. I do not know though there is such a limited option for keycaps with topre keys. I hope to find some soon, I am trying to think if lavender would look good with red? what do you think?

I don't see any groupbuys popping up for this...

At the same time, it looks like Topre has loosened up a bit on their restrictions for keyboards using Topre switches..and exiting the keycap game for them could also mean others start entering the market..

On the downside, if the hybrid switch/keycap thing comes out so you can have Topre Switches/Cherry MX keycaps comes out..that might just change everything as well...Maybe even Topre changing their switches...

I meant to say RF+some caps but my edit didn't go through somehow.
I'll still be getting the RF, silly fingers mistyping in the first place.

I'm currently hoping Ivan's GB for the cherry black PBTs keycaps go through so they can go on my Ducky.
But it might take a while for a GB for Topre (don't think that will ever happen, if it does then it's gonna be a while) or to find one in classy(not there yet).
Plus I need to get my hands on a clack...although even if there is one available I still won't have the guts to buy it at a relatively high price...

nice score man! i wanted to pick up a set also, but i felt i was only buying them because they were the last colored choice available. Plus i have absolutely no yellow novelty caps at all to match. I hope you post some pictures of your board once they are put on!

I am all for new Topre keyboard models and new manufacturers. I desire the option to LED light my keycaps for my topre options aswell. But I do not want less quality than my Realforce!

Also, for a company sitting on such valuable patent, isn't there some legal way to force them to also provide a stream of products to the market? Atleast making it easier and perhaps abit cheaper for others to reproduce?

I will check out the new Topre options, but as for now quality seem to be an issue.

I've never bought a Cooler Master keyboard before but they'll be putting out a Topre keyboard in a few months that will be compatible with Cherry MX keycaps http://deskthority.net/wiki/Cooler_Master_Novatouch

In the mean time your best bet is to keep an eye out on the classifieds forum to see if you can pick up a used keycap set. I just got these in the mail today

Yeah, they say they're in stock but when I made it to the Paypal page they said it was sold out! :( That was just a few minutes ago! Thankfully the pink keycaps stayed in the shopping cart! Oh well, I don't know if the red esc would've looked good with the pink anyways.

That orange looks awesome! Although, I wish they still had colored blanks because that's what I would've preferred. I'm so jealous of Vesper's collection.

Type Heaven is the topre stepchild, they are not built like a realforce. And yes I have used a type heaven, realforce and HHKB.

Not sure what your realforce comment means, realforce and type heaven both have topre switches. I mean if you compare filcos and qfr's they both have cherry switches and are very similar but still different.

You could get a Realforce inthe classifieds for a decent price sometime!
You just have to try it. It is very smooth but still tactile. I love my Clears and I love my Topre. Both feel great to press! But Rubberdomes do not have the tactile feel, they are simply flat boring to press rubber and thats it. They miss the Sliders that Topre are so nice to have included in their design.

Hey Dustin, I don't know much about RealForce keysets, but are these the same thing on Amazon JP? Sounds like they'll be cheaper if you get them here and use Tenso proxy. They don't appear to be blank sets, though.
