[IC-2] Coarse60 - GROUPBUY LIVE - Affordable Leaf-Spring Alice 60%

UPDATE 9/8/2021 After one factory botching of the PCB prototype, we switched factories, finally got all the pieces together and built the prototype. The price is now an even $210 to account for the new, more expensive (but more reliable) PCB factory as well as other accessory costs such as o-rings and standoffs. We still think this is a great price and hope you will too.

I have taken some prototype pictures so you guys can see what it looks like IRL and we are sending it to Andy V Nguyen soon for a build stream and video.

Lastly, we are anticipating a groupbuy start on October 3rd. Stay tuned for a groupbuy post with more information.

Update 4/26 Due to popular opinion, e-white has been added to the color selection. Available colors are now black, navy, and e-white. Also, the streamlined version has been chosen.

Update 4/13 Streamlined version has won with a large majority. We have ordered a prototype for it.

FAQ

So all positions mentioned in the specifications are supported with hotswap?
Yes, thanks to creative hotswap socket positioning by our PCB guy taylor.

Iso Support?
No, by nature of alice layout.

Won't the sound be hollow?
After experience with the prototype, the board will not sound hollow when using the o-rings and acrylic bottom at normal typing distance. Using the POM plate will further mitigate this issue.

Can you further explain the mounting?
Of course - If you look at the photo of the plate, there are four holes, one in each corner. Those will be used to screw the plate into the case, and will be the only points of pressure on the plate. The plate will flex when the strips of metal connecting the hole to the main plate bend.

Looks good so far - I saw a few comments on the other thread about how it was bad that it was a rectangle, but I'm all for it. Tons of keyboards are plain rectangles, and an Alice layout as a rectangle is pretty unique actually. Kind of like the Lubrigante, where I preferred the rectangular version over the chinned version. Though the little bit of rounding where the acrylic bottom piece meets the case looks a bit strange. How come this needed a new thread?

Thanks for the feedback. Could you elaborate on which edge is rounded? As for your last question, I thought this warranted a new thread because the design decision we had to make was very significant, and the prototype had been received.

Update 5-19-2021

Hey everyone. Thanks for the support so far. This is the current state of the project:

The streamlined version has been chosen by popular opinion.
The colors chosen are e-white, black, and navy.
We have ordered a prototype in the e-white colorway.
The groupbuy is going to start in the next few months, barring problems with the prototype.
We are waiting for the PCB prototype.

First time I see an Alice board in a pure rectangle without the alice shape, I'm still not 100% sure how I feel about it.
But the price point makes this very attractive.

-Is there a reason we cannot get split backspace on the hotswap PCB?
-Are the colors final? I have nothing against them per say, but black/white/navy are probably the most common colors for boards. It's always nice when boards have at least one original/unusual color.

The Wonderland + Lubrigante was a rectangular Alice layout - I kind of liked it being different.

Hi!

1. The reason for no split backspace is that the sockets would block the full backspace position.
2. The colors are final, sorry. The way we decided the colors was taking a survey and picking the three most popular.

It's too bad about the split backspace. TKC Candybar is able to do hotswap split and full backspace, but I can imagine it would be harder on an Alice type plate.

Thinking about adding a metal accent option as a "max" kit. But that is still up in the air.
