Here it is from Maxx! Full bolt mod and LED mod.

Like new!

Seriously like new :)

yeah and man I'm loving it. I was thinking of trading it for a different TKL + some cash because $$ is VERY tight at the moment, but the more I type on it the more I love it. I doubt I'll be getting rid of it. I'm thinking maybe giving it a plasti-dip in grey for the faux industrial look (but not perminent) with a set of keycaps and badge from an M13.

Looks great.  I think the colored modifiers work better on the SSK than a fullsize.

Regarding the industrial look, a badge from an M13 won't fit without some trimming, and I'm not certain if the amount of trimming required would cut into the letters.

HUGE Thanks goes out to Skcheng for my first Buckling Spring IBM Space Saving Keyboard! 87' Model, I love the legends! I have performed the floss mod as well, it sounds great.
This is a beautiful restoration done by Phosphorglow, big thanks to you too for this amazing restore. Fantastic job throughout the entire board!

Got my first SSK today, and it is fantastic.  So very, very pretty with such classic beauty, and typing on it feels wonderful.  Many huge thanks to skcheng for sharing this lovely board and getting me hooked on BS, and really amazing work by Maxx of phosphorglow.net.  This is my first BS board since the old metal Model F that came with my family's IBM PC a long time ago.

Had to replace the spring for the ESC key, as it was kind of broken. It didn't buckle correctly. So I took a couple of pictures of the innards of my board:

What is the black cloth thingie? Anyways, the operation went fine and ESC key is now buckling away :D

I don't think you have to take the whole keyboard apart to replace a spring

Most people call it the rubber mat, but Unicomp calls it the "blanket"

If you buy a new one from them ($10) it is white latex and very thin.

How do you propose to change a spring when it looks like this:

It does pull off pretty easily of the plastic base. However, it is really hard to get a spring back on.

Also a couple more shots:

Where do I get a new Q?

I've always just pulled and wiggled it off the stem. It's a little tricky but you can do it without messing up the spring.

Clickykeyboards sells replacement caps but I think I recall their intl shipping prices being hugely inflated. I can send you a Q for the cost of shipping if you want.

Wow, how the heck did I not know about this? Awesome.

I might try that out next time instead of tearing it all apart :D

That's Sandy55's method.  And it's dirt simple.

Regarding the new Q, Unicomp or one of the key sellers on ebay.

Ghetto, baby, straight out of Compton.

I wanted to see what all the fuss was about, and did not want to spend the cash but had junk Ms laying around.

These things really do feel pretty nice. Maybe I will have to spring for a real one, one of these days.

I chopped a fullsize into an "SSK" so my industrial SSK can sit on the shelf and not get any wear/damage (like you could ever tell, but still).

And there's something about typing on a board that you made/customized to such an extent.

I don't see a reason to acquire an SSK as a daily driver if you've already chopped down a full.  It's the same experience minus the inset numpad which I never use, and a little more width at the top of the bezel.

Awesome! Did you really cut that plate by hand? I would have had to use a sawzall or bansaw.

I don't have them. That is a radial arm saw that I am resting on, which cut the plastic pieces nicely, but I don't have a metal blade. It was a pain to do it by hand, it probably took 10 minutes (but my blade might have been dull).
