This is the official order thread for the Universal-ish, Filco+Leopold fitted spacebar. Orders will be gathered through November 21st, 2011 and the week after that will be dedicated to gathering the money from everyone. Everything is closed December 1st as that is the day that I will place the order with Signature Plastics.

The Keys:

Black FilcoLeo

This is the rough design photo taken from a different style; the design itself is new and this will be one of the first full orders of it. (KeyboardLover's Dyesub should also be getting one).

The Pricing:

Each Style: $4

Price drops dramatically after the first 50 for each color but for now it will sit at $4 (The 25 Key Price) because I don't expect a dramatic count of keys.

Shipping (Preliminary Pricing):

CONUS: $5-6
Canada: $6-10
International: $10-15

HOW TO ORDER (THE IMPORTANT PART):

There are three very vital parts:
  • Post your desired keys and general location here in this thread.
  • Send me a Private Message on GH of your order and location.
  • Include your PayPal Email in the Geekhack Message ONLY.


NOTE: If you are also ordering a Novelty Group Buy Key/Keys, make note of that in your PM and combine the two. Post in both threads, but consolidate the pm for my own records.

its based on the bubble-envelope shipping rates. I didn't go out and get a quote for each weight of keys so I provided what it usually is.

I will keep everyone's orders in mind but we are still about 20-15 away from both colors being able to be made. I want this as much as the next person but its been fairly bleak as of late.

7bit wants to make sure that the keys work on a keyboard before he puts them into his buy but last time I checked he will just use it to replace the regular Filco and regular Leopold spacebars that everyone orders.

An outside spark has brought this back to life and has made it possible to be able to produce the Black spacebar; White will be dropped from the buy because of a lack of interest however. It is unfortunate but at least we can have some replacements for those shiny Leopold spacebars.

Unfortuntely I messed up the excel sheet a few days ago and lost track of all of the spacebar orders so I have to go through the PM's again and find the orders. I will update the OP when I have everything sorted out.

EDIT: The only people I could find that ordered a Black FilcoLeo spacebar were:

Jinzo.PK3
Hashbaz
Ruiner17
Ragnorak
Vornath - 2
Autolyze - 2

If I have missed anyone let me know and I will get you added to the overall list

Again, sorry we had to remove the White version but it just wasn't going to happen.

A bit confusing as I had to read through all the posts to find out that now there is only black and I still don't know what kind of material the bar is....so....what kind of plastic are these made from? (I'm guessing many ppl here probably already know just from the manufacturer being used, but I don't!)

ABS plastic, same as virtually every keycap available except for dyesubs.

PBT (dyesubs use it because its more porous) shrinks/warps too much for Signature Plastics to have a high quality control for spacebars. Smaller keys aren't a problem apparently.

ABS is a fantastic material though, I use it to make "Spud Guns" because its durable as hell and has all sorts of great properties.

Hmm...ok but afaik, Filco and Leopold already have ABS keys? So this would be aimed mostly at those with Leopolds needing a replacement?

Yes, it is mostly designed as a replacement for either a shiny Filco or shiny Leopold spacebar. It is also a good way for those people who have recently purchased a white leopold (cremier than a normal white to be honest) to get a black spacebar to fit whatever style they are trying to achieve.

I worked with SP a few weeks ago to design it for this buy specifically but as of late it has been used on different kits (I believe that \KL has put it in his Dyesub buy) and I am fairly sure that if it is confirmed to work 100% then 7bit will use it in his ongoing buy.

I apologize about the disarray of the thread; it was dead until about noon today when I got some PM's and I haven't had time to adjust it; Finally got my excel spreadsheet to have it again only about an hour ago.

And, as everyone else has stated, it is an ABS plastic.

I'm pretty sure he didn't go through with it because there was lack of interested. Also I believe all of R4 space bars will be these spacebars tho.
